Good job! I've worked a LOT with Toby's songs and you've definitely got his style down. I'd love to see what you could do if you fully instrumentized this. This feels exactly like the type of thing you'd hear from pre-2015 when Toby was on camera playing piano (mostly his own Homestuck pieces).

Thanks :) before i made this song i was actually watching a video of "radiation playing the piano" from like 2012 and i saw a comment which broke down his playing style which is basically what inspired this song.

Why are the bass notes Charlie brown
@Mike_3060
@Mike_3060 4 дня назад
when i showed this to my mom she said the exact same thing, lol. the bass notes just play octaves with the perfect fifth smushed in between sometimes, and i guess the Charlie brown thingy had a similar deal. if had a nickel for every time someone said this, I'd have 2 nickels.

If you want to give your melody some extra punch. try copying the melody and delaying it in another channel. Then detune it using the P80 effect so the notes don't clash. Nice chords btw.😊

Chilla's art ahh, and I'm not complaining
@Mike_3060
@Mike_3060 17 дней назад
That’s a very interesting comparison. When I made this song 6 months ago, I knew basically nothing about harmony and just made a massive 13th chord with 10+ notes that I didn’t understand how it worked, and transposed it down the scale. Although I didn’t know what I was doing, this gave the song a very strange/weird/jazzy vibe to it. Chilla’s art music also has very jazzy chord progressions since jazz is very mainstream in Japan. Along with the VHS effects, and the slightly unsettling vibe which I did unintentionally (obviously the composer for Chilla’s art did that on purpose), makes this song feel pretty Chilla’s art’y, even though they’re very different compositionally. Anyway, sorry for going on a huge rant on your comment which I don’t think was even intended to be replied to. You probably don’t care, I just thought it was really interesting I guess, lol. Thanks for listening to my music. :)

COMPOSERS HATE HIM! WITH ONE SIMPLE TRICK YOU CAN MAKE MUSIC BETTER THAN TOBY FOX! FELLAS... i finally figured out how music works. i have no idea if i created this theory or if everyone already knows this (i haven't heard anyone talk about it in the countless music theory videos I've watched on RU-vid) I have figured out how to make an original chord progression with whatever emotions you want. the idea is simple. every note in a major scale has an emotion. when you play base notes, all the other notes in the scale inherit the emotion of the base notes. in C major, if you play C base notes and play random notes above it, it sounds calm and happy. this is because the notes in the C major scale inherit the Ionian feel of the first note in the scale. if you play A base notes, the other notes will inherit the sad, cold feel of the minor scale since A is the first note of the relative minor key. this applies for all notes. (F will give a Lydian feel, D will give a Dorian feel so on) SO... to make a chord progression, all you have to do is think about the story your music is telling, and decide the base notes based on what feeling occur at what point in the story. if you want more mixed emotions like melancholy, you can switch to a sad sounding base note, but force the harmony to be that notes major scale instead of the mode it would be if all of the notes in the scale remained the same. after i figured this out on accident when practicing piano, i was able to make THIS song, and it is easily the best song I've ever made. this is the first time I've ever felt truly proud of my music. please spread the word of this method of harmony so other people can learn this sooner.
