Hey Joe servos are savox hv 20kg. Transmitter I use a JR xg 14. The flaps are sheeted in balsa. Radder and elevators are covered in sola tex which is no longer available but there are similar products out there it needs to be paintable. Cowl is around 12” see Ziorli website go to accessories click on cowl and all the dimensions will come up.
Hey Joe I only use White glue PVA and a little Medium CA to glue the sheet together for wing cover. Lay the sheet on a flat surface and tap the joins fold back and run a small amount of CA on the edge and fold back flat this way you can make a full one piece steer for a wing.
Thank Mark. A few other questions if you dont mind. 1)What types of servos, controllers and transmitters do you use? 2) You mentioned that you are using a 180 Moki radial in the Hellcat. Whats the interior cowl size and what size radials would fit? 3) I see that the rudder and rear wing flaps are white. Did you veneer with balsa or is this fabric over the framework?
Watch my video on building the Ziorli Corsair. I mix the resin in small plastic shot glasses at around 40g at a time and starting in the middle work out with a credit card don’t level resin thick just enough to cover the glass. Don’t put anything on the wood before starting making sure the surface is clean of dust. Also max the resin on scales to get max right.
Mark, Thanks for the information. i have also read several threads about different glues to use when gluing up the frame work and balsa covering. What is your recommendation? Thx in advance
Mark, I've always been extremely interested in the Ziroli Hellcat. Your plane is wonderfully detailed. I have alot of questions regarding this plane. As a youth I was an advanced model builder. I am now a retired carpenter and advanced wood worker. I have never built an RC plane before. The catch is that I would not be interested in starting with a small kit as i would probably lose interest. Other than learning some tips on the balsa structure itself, I would be fine with building it. Its everything that comes after that, as I have always been into detail. I have watched your 4 part videos on the Hellcat. Things I would be looking at would be: 1) Internal wiring 2) Preparing for the gear 3) Proper fabric installation - the "How To's" 4) Detailing (I watched your video on this) Any suggestions?
Hi Joseph if you a wood worker you should find it and interesting challenge. Just follow the plans. Wiring placement in the wing before it’s sheeted helps. Make sure to have things like servos landing gear before you start this will help with placement. Ziroli have things you can purchase like canopy cowl and wing spar tube. When fitting landing gear rails it help to glass around for added strength. These planes are covered in fibreglass 3/4 oz cloth and painted see one of my videos also for detailing. You can buy a blueprint of planes online to get the details. When sheeting the wing make sure not to distort as this will upset the incident and the plane will not fly straight on neutral control surfaces. RU-vid there’s a great source of information to search for things that you are about to do good luck and enjoy.
Hi Mark, I’m just seeing this video five years later. I did my top flight kit built P 47 and my Ziroli P47 the same way. I am working a Ziroli Corsair. The panel lines will go on same as your zero however, instead of burning the rivets, I’m gonna try 1/16 vinyl dots. I didn’t like the inconsistency of the burned in rivets. Plus, you can go to deep very easily and cut into the glass cloth. Hello from the USA.
Good day! I'm sorry, I've been looking for drawings of the f4y airplane model for a long time! You can share the drawings (send copies) by email?! I am grateful for the early!

Very nice ! Can't give you any advice on building planes b c you're better than me @ that. However, if I can advise you to wear a mask when sanding and glassing, you'd live longer and would make even more gorgeous planes yet. ;)
Hi Mark. Great video, thanks. I’m looking at starting a build. Did you ever repair/rebuild the model? I’ve seen a lot of techniques for scratch building and how to best protect the plans on the table. What did you use with the build?
Beautiful plain mark I have looked for those rivets you used by Chad Beach and I cannot find them do you have a website for him or a way to get these vinyl stick-on rivets? Much appreciated if you could point me in the right direction.
If the model is climbing at full power it maybe because the incidents is out between the wing and the tailplane A common problem when scratch building mine is out and I have had to add down elevator as well. You may rejoice it by packing the top engine Mount to increase the down thrust on the engine
Hi just trim the model in flight till it flys straight and level when you take hands off the sticks land the model and then you can adjust the elevator so the trim is back to centre if you run out of trim adjust and go again this way you will get it right
hey mark i am getting close to the finishing stage on a hellcat and had some questions. what kind of paint did you use and how much of each color? and where did you get your inserts for the exhust ports
Hi the inserts I made a mould and made them out of fibreglass. Paint I like to use acrylic lacquer 1L of the main colours and 500 mils of the other colours
No I wasn’t aware of the problem at the time of building it the wing broke off after 8 flights in flight at 300” and destroyed the model the model has been rebuilt and it ready for paint. The wing spare has been beefed up. I will post the rebuild once it’s finished
Hi Roy the wash I used a small amount of black enamel paint on a rag with turps and wiped over if it’s to much add more turps and maybe new rag. Preserve a couple beers help 😉
I built same plane used the kit wood as templates to cut my own pieces cuse I like to save the kit wood in all my balsa planes due to the fact that some of my kits are 20-60 years old and you can't buy them anymore and if I use the kit wood then the kits is gone forever besides plans so I use the kit wood as my templates to trace onto the new balsa wood which is probably stronger from the kit wood sitting for ,20 plus years and getting weaker over time and after I use it as templetes I vacuum seal all the kit wood air tight to save it to build plane again or sell or collect in the future I'm only 30 so my oldest lot which is 55 years old I can hold onto it for years and hopefully it will become so rare to have the original wood and full kit that it will be a very valuable collectable model like the rest of my vintage balsa kits. I got about 53 vintage kits that are complete brand new still sealed newest one is 23 years old telemaster the big one which I built using my own wood of course. I also have about 10 other balsa kits few from bang good that I did use the kit wood that was laser cut and made a beautiful scale model Cessna and a few others from dancing wings I built and I have one giant 1/4 scale f4u Corsair I built don't know the brand because it came in a different box cuse original box was to damaged the guy threw it away and properly preserved the whole kit so I used my own wood and built it took me 3 months working on it every night after work in my apartment or the garage I rented in my complex accross the road to turn into a workshop and I have about 12 1/4 scale warbirds in there and all the kids and adults are in wow when I have door open in evenings working on my planes and building them or painting them.
Hi Mark! Congratulations for this wonderful project. Im very interested to build this plane. Can you share with me the plans and cut plan for start this project! Thanks a lot!!
Hi the plans I have are full size paper plans not a PDF as I can’t send. if you go to Nick ziroli zero plans you can get them along with all the canopy Cowell ect good luck with your build
