I still to this day CANNOT BELIEVE that BRAD PITT PASSED on this film. Because he had done Se7en, 12 Monkeys … story goes that his AGENT ADVICES HIM AGAINST IT. Said some BS about “Typecasting”. I’m sure he must DEFINITELY REGRET THIS ONE. GUY PEARCE WAS INCREDIBLE THO!
What’s crazy is that all he had to say, is that the in color scenes are chronologically backwards, while the black and white scenes are chronologically forward. I love the man, but ofc he had to take the pretentious approach.
Finally got his due this year, tho I'd have been thrilled if he got it for this, IMHO, his Best work. Too much for its time, pun intended, i suppose. You can't tell me A Beautiful Mind is a 'better ' film.
Exceptional, Nolan easily conveys the view points of all sides and even demonstrates this with the diagram with only a few moments to think. Its genius
Watched it yesterday. That's a story that couldn't be told any other way. In fact, the whole movie is more about how the story is told than the story itself. Telling it backwards was the only way of putting us on Leonard's shoes, on how he constantly has to backtrack what happened and how he got there. He doesn't know who to trust and neither do we.
I have watched the film many times but what he says here and the talks about imagination distorting memories… is that a suggestion that what he was told by Teddy that he is Sammy isn’t reality? This is so layered, incredible how his films make you think and feel
Wasn’t it obvious ? It was Leonard’s way of coping with it or him lying to himself by making up the same story but with different character like Sammy is Leonard and the wife is actually his wife… Leonard despite knowing that he killed the right person decided to make a note telling himself(when he forgets later) that Teddy(the cop) is lying to him when Teddy was clearly not lying…
Finding out his brother wrote the short story is so heartwarming - particularly since I know the ending/twist of one of his later movies, which is in fact my favorite modern era movie of all time.
He is smiling bc he knew what he drew. Hehe. He wanted to make a second ball but drew hair instead. A movie without climax someone said below. 😂 chaulkdust.
