That pretty much sums up Ipswich in general. Can't even pull down a poorly constructed item that was meant to be destroyed lol. What a sorry state of a town we are.
I know a place where floaters grace the water And dog turds are waiting arou d every corner There's shops full of tat for 99p And the smell of ammonia from last nights drunken wee There's space on a bench to waste away time When insults are swapped over cheap bottles of wine I know a lane where the needles still glimmer And the street lights are fucked and shine dimmer and dimmer Where revellers meet drunkards in a dark soulless void I know a place you'd be best to avoid This is MY Ipswich, congealed
I was born in Ipswich and have always lived here and whilst this is a positive reflection of what it is good about our town, there are some huge problems with crime that are overlooked. Our traffic infrastructure is hugely lacking and our public transport is very inadequate.
embarrassing lack of diversity and lack of vision when celebrating what our real strengths are - community, music and real grass-roots activity... this is just vomit inducing....
The video shows nothing to set Ipswich apart from anywhere else. Lots of towns have a waterfront, all have shops, dimly lit restaurants and some green space. The camera shots are so closely cropped that you see nothing of the town itself, just generic people in generic situations. It could have been shot anywhere.
Isn't that the one time assistant chief constable of Essex before he was charged with beating a bloke up with his old truncheon? Another chap was convicted of an offence he knew nothing of because of something that happened at Viking.
Generally, food poisoning causes some combination of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea that may or may not be bloody, sometimes with other symptoms. After eating tainted food, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting, can start as early as one hour in the case of staph and as late as 10 days in the case of campylobacter.
i remember reading about a young amy winehouse eating a bad duck egg and getting seriously ill on the way home from one of her regular camden haunts - perhaps OP bart skylark had a similar experience?? as i recall the egg in question was served atop a small mound of steak tartare though to the best of my knowledge this dish is not a 'menu option' at the salthouse
I live in Ipswich and this is the most stupid sickly sweet video I have ever seen. Yes it has some shops and some places to eat like anywhere else. As you can see from the video it doesn't have anything special, it's just another average town.
I'm not originally from Ipswich, having only moved here two years ago from Yorkshire. However, I think this video is brilliant and beautifully shot. The idea of an 'advert' is to show off the best bits, not the worst. Every town has rough areas - York is one of the most beautiful British cities I've been to but I could probably film as many tramps urinating in alleys, drunken youths and pound shops as in Ipswich. This video is only showing truths - how can it not be a true depiction? It's your town, you should be proud of it. When my family come to visit, these are exactly the places I would take them. Not because we have money, but because they are what make Ipswich different to anywhere else they've been. You don't have to buy it; just view it. Everyone's taking multiple 'selfies', editing images and finding the most flattering outfits to show ourselves off - why can't we do it with Ipswich? There is a lot of beauty here if you're not too ignorant to see it.
This is a completely bias view from people who either work/own shops from North to South. The population of Ipswich lives mainly West to East and the existing shopping area has built up around this, the only people that find this a problem are those trying to make money of a North to South change (property owners including East Anglian Daily Times/Ipswich Star). The only non motorway route from South East to South West and visa versa runs alongside the waterfront, so unless you redirect this traffic to an already highly congested Crown street you would have to build a inconvenient footbridge or a subway (which the council are trying to stamp out)
The place lacks signposts to the places visitors may want to go to. Went there once a few years ago to see Gary Numan at, I believe it was called the Empire theatre. It was about a 20 minute walk from the train station but took me about 2 hours to find it. Just made it in time.
I will never frequent an establishment that serves foie gras. Cruelty on a plate, disgusting! Shame on you Aurora! www.ipsnews.net/Library/2012/08/foie_gras_farm.jpg
Really? a) THAT'S everything?? And b) Who is that possible for? Just a hunch, but I'm guessing they're not aiming this at the general population of Ipswich townsfolk... or your average holidaymaker... So we're living in a rich person's weekend resort, standing at the edge of the town watching ships roll in and out while pennies trickle down or fall in the water... Some kind of Potemkin Town for bored rich Londoners...? Gee I'd be dead proud to live in a place like that...
This is a beautifully shot and narrated sliver of the upscale version of Ipswich. A touch of the classy shops, show the Mansion, and don't veer from the Waterfront. Ipswich has turned into an intimidating and often violent place to be especially after dark in the pub and club areas. During the day, well there are the street drinkers, graffiti and closed down shops to keep you entertained. The only thing the high street can offer is coffee by the bucket and betting shops by the handful.
I love Ipswich, but found this video very much aimed at the higher earning bracket. There was no promotion of Ipswich as a historical and county town (where was the town trail, Museum and monastic ruins?); no promotion of the Gipping Valley Walk or Ipswich Music Day and the many smaller venues that promote local music talent. It is not "a waterfront town" - that is a recent development from when it was a historical port!
Past Imperfect Oh but you see.....it is all about the money. They want the rich to bring their yachts to the Waterfront, park their Bentleys outside the Salthouse, eat on Mariners, spend a night or 2 at Kesgrave Hall and if you're still not feeling the love, then splash out at The Pier Hotel.....sail across with Viking Mariner for 2 nights of luxury at this gorgeous boutique hotel and dine on the finest food Suffolk has to offer. It is so not aimed at the likes of us that get excited by a large Primark and 2 JD Sports outlets. I must not forget to mention the mini Waitrose....so handy when you feel the need to be raped by the price of a sandwich. I moved to Ipswich 3 years ago. I am lucky enough to live out Chelmondiston way. It is beautiful. The river is a few minutes walk from my house. Weekends are like being on holiday. For all that is wrong with Ipswich, I can say I do love the place. It has a charm when you explore the history and the surrounding villages and towns. There really is so much to do around here. I despair when I think there is so much potential with Ipswich Town. We need more housing, more jobs, more schools. Just more investment.
Those saying this isn't a true depiction of Ipswich...what do you think they are going to show? The back alleys, graffiti on the walls, Portman Road (and not the Football Stadium)? This is designed to sell Ipswich and, as such, is an advert for the best about the town just like any other advert you'd see on tv say. For my taste the narrative is a little cheesy but the film is very well shot and produced and does Ipswich proud. The only small gripe I have is that in a film promoting Ipswich and the excellent retailers, services etc they couldn't entrust the production to a film company in Ipswich or at least Suffolk. Shame. Not saying either that we should have been the ones to do it, although we could have done, but their are a really talented group of film makers based in and around Ipswich so why did Ipswich Central bring in a director/team all the way from Coventry!
Very well produced film about Ipswich and interesting behind the scenes video. Disappointed to learn though that you didn't look to a Suffolk based film crew to shoot it, let alone one based in Ipswich. Not saying we should have been the ones but we have a really talented group of film makers in Ipswich and Suffolk so it's a shame that, in a video promoting Ipswich, you couldn't entrust the project and the centrally funded monies to one of them.
This is not a true depiction of Ipswich. This is the waterfront, maybe St Peters St and a shot of the park which are the only places worth having a look at. Venture into the town and every other shop is closed down and boarded up and you will probably get sworn at. I used to like living in Ipswich but it has gone downhill a lot in the past few years and now we can't wait to move away. Sorry Ipswich.
I notice there's no sign of Gainsborough or Greenwich estates in your delightfully twee little video. Or the Eastern European beggars and Big Issue sellers on the Cornhill. There's a totally different Ipswich beyond the waterfront. This piece of glib rubbish puts me in mind of Peter Sellars' "Balham. Gateway to the south", at least that was openly taking the piss.
Having come from London in 2013, Ipswich has a lot more to offer visitors than many locals realise. London is moving East and Ipswich is less than 1 1/2 hours from East London by car. It's a good place to escape to and a good base for touring the rest of Suffolk. There's still more to be done, but they've been working on Docklands London for about 30 years, the Waterfront in Ipswich only started in the late 1990s and there's been a recession in between. And I'd rather shop in pedestrianised Ipswich than crowded, noisy, smelly Oxford Street any day! Hang in there guys, Ipswich has a great future.
