I've just come across your channel and wondering if you stress the importance of the paint that is used? I think that it should be pointed out that it helps to have a decent pigmented paint. When funds are limited, it helps being able to purchase fewer colors to achieve a colorful palette as you have here. One can purchase the lesser expensive ones and work up to the better, more pigmented ones in time. Definitely use what you have and most importantly, have fun.
@colorcrushcreative
@colorcrushcreative 12 дней назад
We all agree that we should use what we have on hand if funds are tight or otherwise engaged. When the time is right you can then purchase better quality- keeping it simple with just three primary colors - really all you need! With White and Black of course! The quality and deep pigments as you point out will give you a better lasting and quality piece of art. But we all need to practice and play first!!

Here are some thoughts and legalities to consider. Found at this website- www.owe.com/resources/legalities/5-some-questions-about-fair-use/#:~:text=the%20collage%20does%20not%20feature,edition%20of%20fine%20art%20prints "Collage is a time-honored art form that utilizes pre-existing materials, including artwork and photographs. Often the materials will be copyrighted. So your unauthorized use of those materials would be copyright infringement unless your collage qualifies as fair use. Unfortunately, there is no legal rule on whether collage as a category would be fair use. It will depend in each case on an evaluation of the four fair use factors with respect to the particular collage." "To summarize, collages that have more of the following characteristics are more likely to qualify as fair use: the collage incorporates many different materials from many different sources the materials are juxtaposed or arranged in ways that create new visual and conceptual effects, the more different from the effect of the original materials, the better the collage does not feature a copyrighted work as the central focus or dominant image only portions of copyrighted materials are used, rather than the entire image the collage is a one-of-a-kind piece of fine art, or published in a limited edition of fine art prints" "One final note: in addition to copyright, collage artists should also be aware of potential trademark rights that might be associated with their raw materials. Trademarks are brand names or other symbols that represent the commercial source of products or services. Sometimes visual images can be trademarks, such as Mickey Mouse or the Marlboro cowboys. If you use these in your collages, there may be some risk of trademark infringement. However, trademark law also has exceptions for non-competitive uses. While the analysis is not technically the same, generally it is similar to the copyright concept of fair use. Such uses are the most safe when they are the most transformative, and unlikely to compete with the trademark owner’s market." Thank you for bringing this subject up- wouldn't want to infringe on others.

Oil sticks and oil pastels are both portable art mediums that come in stick form and have many similar qualities. However, they have some key differences, including: Oil pastels Contain pigment, wax, and a non-drying oil, and have a waxy or crayon-like consistency. They can be used on a variety of surfaces without preparation, including wood, paper, canvas, and metal. Oil pastels are malleable and don't dry completely, so layers need to be set with a fixative. They also work well with turpentine and linseed oil to create blending effects. Oil sticks Contain pigment, a drying oil, and a small amount of wax, and are softer than oil pastels. They can be used as a drawing tool to apply color directly to a surface, or for resist techniques. Oil sticks dry completely over time, similar to oil paints, with marks becoming touch dry first and then drying completely over several months. Exposed surfaces of oil sticks will develop a skin, but this can be slowed down by wrapping the sticks in plastic wrap and storing them in an airtight container.

The deli paper used is not that waxy- do not use Wax Paper!!- but just paper here. The wax will not allow the rust to flow through properly. Thick tissue paper works as well!! Have fun!

Great interview. Because nine to five is standard, or used to be, doesn’t mean everyone is cut out for that. I’m just like Brooke was, nine to five did not sit well with me at all, and for many of the reasons that Brooke has mentioned. I also find it hard to make things for the sake of just making them. I sat on the idea of opening an online business for two years. The wait was mostly fear based. Then one day I just said go for it, even if you sell one thing a month, what the heck do you have to loose. I will never forget the day I got that first sale. I got up and did a little happy dance. And from that day on I can say it’s probably the happiest I have been in years. I have run into some health problems that, at times, make things a little difficult. But I just manage to keep pushing through. The cookie cutter life that is nine to five is not for everyone, and why should it be. Not everyone is made alike, I don’t like routine, I don’t like to be told what to do. Some people strive in that type of atmosphere and that is okay, but on the flip side there are many who don’t. And I don’t feel people should be made to feel guilty because of this. Different strokes for different folks. We are the happiest when we are doing what we love. And lucky for us that, that is possible in this day and age.
@colorcrushcreative

For so many of us the 9-5 can be so difficult. I love that you took the leap to try out your online business, it's certainly a roller coaster but it all feels so worth it at the end of the day! Cheering you on in your business and in your art! 😊🎨🥳
