Hitting some of the Season 5 flies now. What about using the scud/curved hooks on this fly like so many others of this style? Or does this particular look fish better on the traditional nymph hook? You Gaven me a lot to think about, trying to put it together in some variations. Thanks!!

Thanks Tim, great little pattern. And yes, I dug out my tungsten beads and tied a few more. And this led me to the patterns it came from, so next on my list are some rainbow warrior variants. Now for 24 inches of snow to melt so we can get to the river…..
Just saw Kelly Gallup tie a dry fly and it got me thinking about this pattern Tim. I also love the Adams, but is there a reason to tie an Adams and the extra work vs this Hare’s Ear Parachute? As a guide, and thinking guide fly, do you tie an Adams? Thanks for these extra videos. I try to tie during the TNL, but I always go back when I am tying the next 4 and watch the quick tie. Thank you
Great question. There really isn't a huge difference in the flies, but heres a great idea. Once you have a picky fish who has refused an adams 2 or 3 times, it's always best to switch the fly, perhaps go way off, or stay somewhat similar. So a purple haze perhaps, or adding a little buggier fly such as this pattern can be a great way to entice more eating. This can always work the other ways around, but remember, if you don't have it and need it , you'll wish you had it, if you have it and don't use it, you're still catching fish! - Dana

I tried an #18 scud hook and I was right ... Looking at your camera footage and comparing the hook size to your finger nail , your using a size 14-16 nymph hook NOT an 18. In the future please tell us what size of hook your using in your vice ! I ENDED UP GARBAGING MY ATEMPT BECAUSE THERE WAS JUST NO ROOM BEHIND THE RED BEAD. 😤👎
Never garbage an attempt , that’s what a lighter is for. Gets you back to your hook! Sorry you didn’t find enough room behind your bead. The hook that we suggest in the recipe is a R18-B size 12. Perhaps you mis took the r18-b hook style for the size. Hope this helps.
