Hi everyone! Welcome to The Art Process Channel! My name is Kathy (I also go by Kate) and I created this channel because in my teaching art studio (based in southern California), I encounter so many people who feel fear, self criticism and anxiety around making THEIR art. My goal is to encourage EVERYONE to derive benefit from the art process, whether you call yourself an artist or not (and you SHOULD call yourself an artist!)
This channel shows the many different ways to approach mixed media abstract work by letting go of the outcome and allowing the process to unfold. I will show you different techniques, you will see my own process at play and start feeling free to experiment and join our creative community.
I believe in the healing power of art making for ALL! Whether you are a beginner, part of a team or a practicing artist: “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time” - THOMAS MERTON

Great video. Thank you. I’m looking for information on how to adhere newspaper to a canvas board in order to paint a still life oil painting on top. Do you know what to use so that the newspaper won’t yellow?
I adore your work - the colours and shapes are beautiful, showing a wonderful sensitivity for the natural world. I live too far away but I'd love to see it for real not just on a screen - but you have already inspired me in my creative journey. I wish you success with your show - your work deserves it.❤
you dont have to. But good to afterwards. If the paper is stiff, sometimes dampening it with a little water helps it flatten. But only seal when dry. Hope this helps
I'm trying to find the best glue for various Japanese printmaking papers...Washi, rice paper...very thin. Do the gel mediums stain through semi transparent papers, looking like a grease blob or do they dry to invisible with no effect? I have thicker cotton rag papers & have many times used matte medium, soft gels etc. with no issue but I'm afraid I'll ruin my more delicately printed ones or that over time they may discolor if not every part of the surface has ink or paint on it. Thank you!
I have not tried it with delicate papers. I would try a sample first and probably not use gel but rather a regular matte medium. Good luck and let me know
Great tips! Thanks. When working with a canvas, i like using foam board underneath. I stacked them up and i do not have to move the book underneath… since they are of a good size and they are pretty cheap.
