I watched this show when I was in high school and my English teacher admit that he was a fan of the show and that we should watch what a fine quality show is. 2024 and it stood the test of time. It’s still a quality show at the top.
I cannot believe $10 for a parking fine and $80 for a new radiator in a car? 1981 was the best no computers no I phone no google just true hard life I miss.
I will say it's good to watch these Hill Street blues episodes all over again after all these years. Yes decades network has been playing a all day marathon of it.

Great show part of my Generation X . I was 13 when it premiered and 19 when it went off the air. One of the bright spots of growing up in a dysfunctional family was Mom, Dad, brother, and me watching Hill Street Blues in the 1980’s. My parents were cool in allowing me to watch it at a young age. After all it was only television - not an R rated movie. I’m just binge watched all episodes on Hulu. Watching it as a 54 year old I’ve realized how adult themed it was for television along with sex and violence. It certainly pushed the limits of television.

So many things had to align perfectly. What if they didn't find Travanti to play Furillo? What if Robert Butler didn't make the camera work 'messy'? What if Post didn't absolutely nail the theme song? And a million other things. I guess that's true for all great shows.
A few more things to wonder, what if, allegedlly, one of the heads of NBC didn't have faith in the incredibly low-rated show, and what if (as Leno alluded to) the show hadn't swept the Emmys it's first year.

It certainly all lined up for that show. From the music , to the cast, to the writing. It was groundbreaking, and still not bettered. I was 14 and used to watch it secretly in my room at 9pm on a Thursday. I was 14 and could hear my mum coming up to check if my TV was on. I would turn it off then put it back on when she went downstairs. I liked HSB more than my mum.
