Daniil Simkin was born in Russia to a ballet family. In 1990, the family left for the West and, after several international engagements, settled in Wiesbaden, Germany, where Simkin first appeared on the stage. From the age of six he often appeared onstage, dancing alongside his father Dmitrij Simkin.
Simkin joined American Ballet Theatre as a Soloist in October 2008 and became a Principal Dancer in December 2012. His repertoire with the Company includes the Bronze Idol in La Bayadère, the Ballet Dancer in The Bright Stream, Franz in Coppélia, Ali and Lankendem in Le Corsaire, Basilio and the Lead Gypsy in Don Quixote, the Flames of Paris pas de deux, the peasant pas de deux in Giselle, Kolia in A Month in the Country, the Nutcracker Prince in Alexei Ratmansky's The Nutcracker, Lensky in Onegin, the Son in Prodigal Son, Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet, Boy With Matted Hair in Shadowplay, Prince Désiré and the Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty.
When his knee tensed up at 1:32, did her foot actually hit his knee ? I wonder. Or did he tense it preemptively to avoid injury? They recovered from that tiny moment as if it never happened which is really great. Almost undetectable.
People talk about perfection or nobody's perfect or perfection can never be achieved... This is a misnomer. There is no such thing as perfection in any Art form. Anyone who thinks that is fooling themselves. For a dancer, certainly a dancer as much a master of human movement as Daniil Simkin is not seeking perfection. He only experiences different levels of freedom depending on how he feels during the performance. I don't know what they are doing nowadays in their bus and truck tours but when I was dancing we were doing 8 shows a week. The only and most important thing any dancer seeks is to feel good so they are free to give an outstanding performance.
Всё замечательно . Весело. Один . Журнал с чьей -то голой задницей крупным планом . Жаль... Такая харизматичная фактура. Здесь Высочайшего уровня танцовщик и артист!
I am weeping a bit. It is so beautiful. His artistry combined with his athleticism is spellbinding. I loved that there was no scenery, no costumes, just the music and the dancer 💕
An astounding artistry from both the choreographer and dancer. I'm glad that Studio Simkin made this available without costing us $100+ a ticket for a live performance.
The first video I saw of you was when you were young and were dancing with your father. What an incredible journey it has been and this piece reflects that. Superb!
