KTSP-TV Channel 10 Phoenix, Arizona (now Fox 10 KSAZ-TV) was a then-CBS affiliate airing CBS Daytime programming until September 9, 1994, when a massive affiliation shuffle took effect in the Valley of the Sun, when KPHO-TV 5 Phoenix gave up its independence and picked up CBS the following day. And the CBS preemption Telop slides for "The New $25,000 Pyramid" and "Press Your Luck" would not be presented as the day after Thanksgiving in 1984, but will return Monday at its regular times as it brought back a memory.
I have somewhere the whole special (I don't remember which year it was, there were a couple of them) with the talking pumpkin as the host...and I believe the commercials got recorded too...My brother and I used to watch it every Halloween. Hopefully the tape hasn't disintegrated...
Fred's version of 'Miss Otis Regrets' is tantamount to a posthumous tribute to Cole Porter, one of his closest friends. Cole had lapsed into silence in 1957; years of pain from his riding accident had finally defeated his will to work. He would die in 1964. One wonders if Porter appreciated one of his most poignant, even brutal, songs being played for laughs.
This was made in 1960 when Cole was still alive. There were two tributes to him here. I don't think anyone ever did greater justice to Thank You So Much Mrs. Lowsborough-Goodby than Fred Astaire did here and as for Miss Otis Regrets, Cole would have loved it. It was always the perfect send up of his rarified world.
Better Days was cancelled after only three episodes were aired the day after the AIDS news special was televised (October 23) because of extremely low viewership and controversy regarding the show's cast, with Together We Stand being placed on hiatus for retooling after five episodes. Both programs aired one more episode on October 29 before they were off the schedule, but Together We Stand aired seven more episodes between February and April 1987 under the new title Nothing is Easy before being pulled off the schedule, and it would be canceled in May with six episodes left unaired.
That would be from Black Friday 1984 (November 23, 1984) "Because of the following special program, the Young and the Restless, and As the World Turns will not be presented today. Both programs will return on Monday." The reason, a CBS Special Presentation of "Like Mom, Like Me" (1978) starring Linda Lavin and Kristy McNichol. Even Capitol and Guiding Light was not presented on Black Friday 1984 because of CBS Sports College Football featuring Boston College and Miami (FL) (aka The Hail Flutie game).
You are so right, because today,s young people 35 and under don,t know about care about or want to hear about these two legends who were the top of the top! The last of the Husband and Wife Tuxedo and Evening Gown acts of all time, Period !!!!!
Most broadcast networks in the 1980s had preempted game shows on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday to air the Thanksgiving Day parade and special airings of Saturday morning animated programs.
Sadly, a very talented, forgotten, unappreciated singing movie entertainer. 🤔😥 He was was the speaking and singing voice of Jimmy Cricket in the movie Pinocchio! He was also the original singer of the beloved song "when you wish upon a star '! 🤗
Thanks for this. We observed Steve’s birthday on Monday over on the Steve & Eydie FB group, and someone was ruing the lack of new material to enjoy. I don’t know where or how you find these clips, but we appreciate them enormously!
