Has anyone tested it on a high mountain climb? I don't have a large bucket so I'm looking for a versatile and light backpack wich can perform well on a high summit
MSR's tent is great, but as a person who just started working, but wants to go to the grassland on weekends. The civilian tent floating cloud 2 tent is a good alternative.
Hi Taunton Leisure, I walked 20-30km a day for 3 weeks straight with the Talon 44l backpack with about 10kg in it (11-12kg including bag) however, each day at some point it would start to feel like it carved into my shoulders. The chest buckle and the hip belt could alleviate some of the pain but only for some time so I had to go from tightening to tightening further, then loosening and combining these adjustments to make it through each day. When I saw Osprey released this new version, it was my hope that the wide shoulder straps would alleviate the pressure on the shoulders but ironically it seems that you Sir and other people in the comment section suggest the old Talon for carrying heavier loads - maybe because it has an internal frame and back padding. That's a little disappointing though because it is broadly known that the Talon 44l has an issue with shoulder pain from the straps when reaching the 10kg mark. What is Osprey doing to tackle this issue? It makes sense that a broader surface of the shoulder straps distributes the load better onto shoulders and chest but it seems this precise area where this version excels is also where it falls flat. Why couldn't a framed Osprey backpack have these broader shoulder straps? Why can't this version be framed? Why couldn't the broader shoulder straps simultaneously be more cushioned?
Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to hear that you've struggled with your Talon 44L! I'll do my best to address your concerns. Regarding the Talon Velocity, this pack was specifically designed for fast and light activities. Adding a frame to the Velocity would compromise its intended use by making it less comfortable for running and fast-paced activities. The wider shoulder straps on the Velocity are a new design for Osprey, and they haven't yet had the opportunity to apply them to other packs in their range. However, this style of harness is expected to be adapted to other packs in the near future, and will be tailored to fit the load ranges of those packs. As for cushioning, the lack of additional foam is intentional to keep the pack breathable and comfortable for running or fast movement. When Osprey releases hiking or long-distance trekking packs with a similar harness system, they will likely include more cushioning to accommodate the desire to carry more weight. Regarding the discomfort you experienced with the Talon 44, carrying 11-12kg puts you at the upper limit of this pack's load range. Given the impressive distances you were covering, this discomfort may be a result of the pack being pushed to its limits over extended periods. Without seeing how the pack was fitted, it’s difficult to determine a definitive cause for the issue. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out.
@@tauntonleisure Wow - thank you so much for your detailed answers. They far exceed all my prior experiences on RU-vid. I have subscribed to your channel and I will look forward to seeing what lies ahead for Osprey's backpacks but certainly also for your channel. All best of greetings from Copenhagen.

These stretchy pockets are what intrigued me. I'm able to fit my Haven Tent hammock and Grayl Geopress in the front pocket, pad and Helinox Zero in the side pockets, tarp rolled up in the bottom straps, swagman roll or light quilt in the bag with my food and other gear. All in all around 20lbs. If they make a 40L, I'm going to be one of the first to buy it.
I bought a pair of these from ago Outdoors a couple of weeks ago, as I am getting over a fractured 5 th metatarsal. They are great boots with the slightly wider fit. I use them for work, as a gardener. Expensive, but when it comes to your feet, no one should be afraid of spending the money on them, as you are on them most of your life. I expect them to last me around a year, if I am lucky. All the best.👍🏾
Had the first night out in mine the other night, on top of a hill. I didn’t think I’d get on with the low ceiling height after putting it up in the garden, but it really wasn’t a problem out in the wild! However, Vango have clearly lied about the height of this tent - as I measure it at only 88cm (should be 95cm) in the centre! I’d describe it as spacious but cosy… It reminds me of the dens I used to make as a kid with it being low in height, and I love it for that.. It’s such a great colour for wild camping too, now my new favourite shelter out of the 8 I now own! 😎👍🏻
Clear, concise, very professional. A no-nonsense video, thank you. You should have far more “likes” in my opinion. I guess that will come when we see you bedding down in the weather, cooking and so on. I am really looking forward to following you.
I own the Soulo red label in the same color in Switzerland. I also use it in the summer in Corsica, Elba, Menorca for weeks. I love it, it blends in so well in every Season.
Cheers for a good video. Is it possible for you to show a comparison between the +7 and -1 bags when they are compressed (non pro, regular length), in a video or pictures? And, if possible, also vs the old SP 1 & 2 versions. The only measurements I could find says 2L for the +7 version, and 8L for the -1 version, which I don't think is accurate when they are compressed.
Thanks for a really useful review. How is the sizing? Snug or generous? I'm 180cm, slim build and would normally take a size M, but I'm also aware there's a lot of variety between brands.
Hi, We are so glad you found the video helpful! I wouldn't say its Snug but not oversized either but pretty true to size. I take a M in everything and found the M fit me perfectly for this jacket! Its not a technical fit so does offer more room around the hips and arms
No problem and thank you for the support! Its about 5cm lower than the Hubba Hubba but I think what makes it look so much lower is the sloped sides. It still offers a good amount of head hight in the centre but not as much on either side.
No silly questions, In terms of flapping, it's difficult to make a definitive statement about which material flaps more since it can depend on various factors. However, some users report that silnylon tents may flap more in windy conditions due to their lighter weight and possibly because they can stretch more than polyester. However, this might not always be the case, as the design and tautness of the tent also play significant roles. Silnylon is chosen in this case because it has a much better strength-to-weight ratio
Hi, Thank you we are so glad you found it helpful! I have used a 2L Bladder for the various hikes I've done along with 2x 500ml soft flasks in the front pockets
I've had the same pair of Altbergs since 2013. Changed the insole a few times, but they're still waterproof, comfortable and trusty to this day. Hope to be able to go to their shop one day and get myself a second pair.
These reported weights... Are completely misleading. It takes few seconds to put it in your kitchen counter and measure it. Packed. I guess we are talking about 1.3kg for single and about 2kg for 2P model, but we will never know, until someone manage to weight them.
Hey can someone give me a recommendation on sizing? I'm 1,84 m ( 6 Feet). Should I go for regular, which says up to 1,85 m or large instead? I tested the previous model in regular and it felt good inside. But it was in a shop, so no real test conditions. I'm kind of confused with the toal length as the rule of thumb says body height + 20-25 cm but the regular is only 1,96 m in total. But I kind of trust what sea to summit provides in terms of user height. Help would be very appreciated!
Hi, Thank you for your comment! So the REGULAR has a MAX user hight of 6ft 1in, so at 6ft this should fit you fine. My colleague is 6ft 2in and he can fit in a REGULAR with a very small amount of wiggle room. Also having less space in the bag will also mean you warm up faster compared to if you were in a bag with a lot of dead space. It is worth also noting that the width changes between a REGUALR and LONG fit so if you are broad across the shoulders this may move you up to the long.
Thank you very much for this prompt reply! Well, is I see myself a pretty regular in all ways, I go for the regular bag I guess. Thank you for the great video provided btw. Best wishes from Bavaria!
Do they make a 40 L?. That is the ideal size for multi days. Also they need to put more padding over the shoulder area. This is a weak point and i notice many people bring it up.
I spoke to Osprey a few days ago and there is discussion about a 40l option but not in the near future. I've not noticed much of an issue so far with the padding, I recently did a 3 day hike out of it and found it really comfortable. I would imagine that this would need to be looked at in a 40l version due to the potential weight increases
You can definitely trust this material but you need to know its limitations. Would you be wearing these jackets in the middle of winter with a 65L pack on? No its not up to that task, but in warmer conditions these will out perform a more ridged shells in terms of breathability and comfort. My Kinetic has just reached the 3 year mark and has been amazing.
