I am going to rebuttal your take on Kendrick Lamar praise. Kendrick Lamar has to compete with the biggest hit maker in Drake commercially(who he just defeated in the most tuned rap beef in hip hop history with the rise of social media) in the streaming era, critically with the likes of Adele, Taylor Swift, all while upholding the anticipation and standard with each release as Jay-Z. And he is forced to do it in a generation of music listeners with short attention spans. Therefore, for him to have the longest charting Hip Hop Album of All-Time at 600 weeks is not only impressive but should be applauded. I didn't even touch on his storytelling ability, technical skill, ability to weave hood music and conciois rap with social political commentary while making his music palatable and accessible to the masses which many "conscious rappers" have tried and failed.
yeah but if kendrick was in the 90s he would be just another rapper, kendrick excels in a area that lacks creativity and storytelling music,i dont know i just never been overly impressed by kendrick
@everybodywannabelikemike_ Nobody can control when they were born. And greatness transcends eras. Timeless music is timeless music. Your last statement respectfully is the real issue. But just because you may not have an affinity towards Kendrick Lamar's rapping style or music(which is perfectly fine) doesn't take away from the fact that tons of people do and that he is deserving of both the crtical acclaim, praise and adulation from his peers and music listeners that he gets. Shoot My favorite rapper is Lupe Fiasco who has deeply rooted animosity towards Kendrick and yet I recognize Kendrick as an all-time great. An GKMC is just one reason why.
@everybodywannabelikemike_ Kendrick Lamar occupies the space that Lupe once had but on a much broader scale. Lupe called Obama a terrorist during a period when Hip-Hop backed Obama. As a result, he lost two Ferrari deals and was blackballed. Furthermore, his pretentious attitude and speaking at people rather than to his listeners turned tons of people off. His music no longer mirrored when he first came out. As his lyrics became more and more cryptic and esoteric his music became less palatable. Music is meant to be enjoyable and not a chore to the majority of listeners. Kendrick Lamar found the perfect balance while maintaining his artistic integrity. "I'm a close cut to Common and Gucci Mane. That's a comparison you probably wont understand." - Kendrick Lamar. As a result he has 3 critically acclaimed Classic Albums. 1 being the longest charting in Hip Hop History GKMC, 2nd being To Pimp A Butterfly which spawned one of the biggest protest songs ever that was played during rallys during the Black Lives Matter movement. And he is the first and onlu non-classical music artist to win a Pulitzer Prize for DAMN. He also curated the Black Panther Soundtrack. 3rd All-Time in Grammys not including the one Macklemore stole from him. And he even has an amazing mixtape catalog. He surpassed Lupe as an artist who has abstract concepts that aren't always fully fleshed out or only make sense in Lupe's head. Lupe is a superior lyricist as far as technical skills but it stops there.
Kobe Bryant was the best player in the NBA from 2006-2011. During this time period, Kobe was the only player in the NBA to make the All-NBA First Team and All-Defensive First Team simultaneously. Lebron was the best player in the NBA from 2012-2019. While Steph may have had a few better "seasons," he was never a better player than Lebron.
