Tim Gentry just posted a video of an introductory walk around the big rig salvage yard of John Story in Knoxville, TN and they have everything possible for trucks. Nice organized yard filled with inventory. Get a nice bumper from them perhaps. Another guy Matthews Motorsports is building up a 359 with a complete rerail and build it up from the shop floor project. Slow going as he farms and races cars. Pretty good mechanical skills. Of course, there is TwinSticks out of Ardrossen Alberta.
Man JH I really like your project. I like your attention to detail. I retired from trucking (Roadway Express) in 1999. I am 82 years old . (I have no idea how I've lived this long) Ha. I just got burnt-out with slip seat trucking. But now I'm abdicated to RU-vid. Keep up your good work and I'll keep watching. Blessings to you and your family. Cheers..
When searching find the mil thickness. The thicker the better. 4 mil and below will show imperfections and will bubble easier. 5 and higher is less forgiving and won’t scratch nearly as easy. Hope that helps.
LOVE this lost Art stuff! As soon as you pulled out that Vinyl, I had memories of my 77 Formula. That looks so damn good!! 🍻👌 ... You were talking about the fitment of the Gauges, and said you were anal about it. Well Brother, I call that CRAFTSMANSHIP! It's a dying art that old fools like us have to keep alive.
If you are making it a toy hauler, you might want to big hole the sleeper hole. Also a lot of 359’s use that black bracket on the back of the sleeper up top to put the yellow flashers for over wide loads. They also were used for a big aluminum wing that was an option
Yes sir. Waiting on the rings now. Lol. I started then got advice to do big hole. Had not thought of the flashers in the back bracket. Great thinking though. Thank you.
The intro makes me LOVE this channel. I may be a German car mechanic, but all I saw was my family growing up on the farm. Pure America! I’m 51, drove trucks 30 years ago, I’d trade a few of my favorite Kraut rides for a nice 359. Keep this channel going!
I love anything about 359's. I have an 84 Exhd that i have had for over 30 years. I put almost 2million miles on it. I have been thinking of making a RV out of it. Kathy was right about using a rubber boot out of a later 379. I put a 93 standup sleeper on mine and I used the 379 boot, it is pre drilled so it is a lot easier to install. Good luck on your build. I subscribed so I can watch your build.
lol Kathy is actually Randy(wifes email) I have redone all panels on mine and am currently going to do another onefor my brother. They are a very simple system once you take them apart! dont be afraid to try one as long as you have a huck gun!
Really love the look of this old truck and you have got me hooked on future episodes to watch how it comes along, there's a lot of work needed so looking forward to loads of videos, good luck with it.
hey looks like a fun project! just watch taking bed and closet out really weakens to bunk stucture, probably ok for rv but when I redone mine it was very wobbly it is part of the stuckure.these trucks are very simple to work on when you remove the window ,the bunk ring holes should line rite up.also the rubber boot off an early 88 to 93 pre unibilt will fit it,they are a softer rubber and do not squeak like the origional hard rubber one.good luck!
Have you considered putting unibilt rings in the cab and sleeper? You'll be a lot more comfortable. Its the perfect time to do it. Its $1200 for the rings and boot and worth every penny.
