If we haven't met before, I'm John. Welcome to the channel. In 2024, my wife Darcey and I are relocating to the Iron Range in the northwoods of Minnesota. We drew upon the geology (namely, the iron-rich rocks) of this region for the name of our business: Rusty Rocks Woodcraft. This channel focuses on our passion for woodworking, home/cabin DIY projects, as well as tools that we use for both. This area's rich history in iron mining and outdoor living provide an exceptional canvas, in which we draw upon for inspiration as makers.

Nope. You are supposed to put in oil to threads of the filter first and wait two minutes before installing. If not you have to adjust oil level again. Not sure if it has other benefits to fill the oil in the filter but manual recommends that. Good video however.

From what I understand, your lungs benefit the most from a MERV 15 filter that takes out 95% of the 0.3 micron particles. I inherited my dad’s 1-3/4 hp powermatic dust distributor after he passed from lung cancer. The Wynn MERV 15 filter that replaced the bag can make a remarkable amount of fresh air in a hurry. I have a thein baffle but will replace with a Super Dust Deputy shortly. Happy woodworking.

Great review. I've been thinking about getting one of these, but am a little concerned about whether it would be hard to achieve a nice square cut with it being totally free hand. It's a shame none of these seem to have a simple cut-off stand attachment, however with the light weight of the tool, and the led shadow guide (which i wasn't aware of before watching this video) - i think it should be easy to get the knack of neat cuts. I just hope this isn't going to end up being a tool that punishes me for being left handed... 😂

Recheck the oil level after running it. The filter will fill, and the oil level in the engine will be slightly lower. It shouldn't be a lot because the filter is small, but why not get the oil level up to full.

Hi, I have the same mower/engine, when I use the taller filters (Fram PH7575 0r 3614 or equivalents) the steering rod rubs/dents the filter when the left front axle goes upwards on hills or bumps, I can see in your video you don't have much clearance left with the taller Fram, the dealer told me they are well aware of this issue and that is why they went with the shorter filter (Kohler 12 050 01)

What model Delta dust collector is that? Is the suction better or worse after the mods? Usually the filter helps improve suction but the cyclone usually reduces it.
@rustyrockwoodcraft
@rustyrockwoodcraft 5 месяцев назад
Its the Delta Model 50-760 dust collector. I've had it for 12+ years. It's been a great unit. The suction was much better after the pleated filter from Wynn Environmental. I ran 4" sewer pipe down the length of the wall (about 26 feet) and have several inlets with aluminum gates. It works great. I don't have a meter to test CFM difference after the mods, but it provides plenty of power.

Everyone online in recent years are complaining about the blades, how they are only good for a few cuts even in easy stuff like EMT, the weld snapping, blade teeth burning out, etc. How are your blades holding up?
@rustyrockwoodcraft
@rustyrockwoodcraft 5 месяцев назад
I would agree, they aren't a durable as I'd hoped. I replaced one after about 30 cuts. I bought a 3 pack and so far, still have two left. I found that if you don't push the blade too hard through the material, it lasts longer.

Also for the people looking at this video, look at the Kreg acu cut system. I used the system for awhile and was very happy with it, not perfect and does have a bit of play but it worked very well.
@rustyrockwoodcraft
@rustyrockwoodcraft 6 месяцев назад
I looked at that as well, but went with this. I've been happy with it as a Festool alternative that works well. It's been a workhorse in breaking down 4x8 sheet goods in my shop and giving a straight edge to rough-cut or live edge lumber.
@MrPhoenix1800
@MrPhoenix1800 6 месяцев назад
So just a tip I couldn’t see much of a gap between your guid rails. The consensus is you should leave a 1/8 inch gap between the two guides because they are not machined perfectly 90 on the ends.. that’s what I have heard.. I bought the saw with a 8.0 amp battery like you. I’m just waiting to get my guide now boy are those expensive
@rustyrockwoodcraft
@rustyrockwoodcraft 6 месяцев назад
Good tip! I use a long straight-edge (Bora edge guide or a 4' level) when joining the tracks to confirm a straight edge. I found the two track sides that consistently work well together and leave the rail connectors in one track so I know which edges to join each time. Results (for my two tracks) have been consistent.

how did you setup your packout for the saw?
@rustyrockwoodcraft
@rustyrockwoodcraft 6 месяцев назад
I usually just take the dust bag off the saw and put both in the bottom of the Packout. I keep a battery on the saw so it doesn't rattle around. The Packout usually doesn't have anything else in it (maybe a spare blade). I don't worry about getting a bunch of sawdust in it as it is easy to dump out/clean. If I am concerned with the saw banging around (like when transporting), I'll throw an old towel in for padding. I keep the tray on the top for any other loose items that go with my circ saw workflow. It's a pretty simple setup.

I need to know which battery to purchase for the DCCS670 chainsaw. I bought a used on and it did not have the battery. Is there a particular battery model or sku to use with this chainsaw
@rustyrockwoodcraft
@rustyrockwoodcraft 7 месяцев назад
I use the DCB609 batteries. These are the 9 amp hour (which is rated at 20v, so 3 amp hour at 60v). I own three of them which is sufficient for all-day cutting (with a battery on the charger at all times). You can find a 6 amp hour and 12 amp hour version of these batteries as well. The nice thing about Flexvolt is that you can use the 60v batteries on both 60v and 20v tools (hence, the ‘flex’).

Yes - I like quality, but couldn't justify that kind of expense for shop drawers. I had a few gaps in some of the boards. But if someone is more picky, they can easily cut boards without gaps for the final boxes, or hide gaps on the underside of the box. Thanks for the watch & comment :)

I disagree the problem with the Milwaukee dolly is that the wheel brackets stick out to far , which stops tidy packing in the van and on the job site. So for me it was not about the money . I have been using my DIY versions for the a good while now coupled with a costco sack truck which gives much better versatility. So DIY has been the way to go for me.
@rustyrockwoodcraft
@rustyrockwoodcraft 7 месяцев назад
Good suggestion. I'm not opposed to DIY, but think if the dolly fits your need, it's nice to have the brake. If someone has the DIY with a brake, that would be a cool option.
