With a passion for soil biology, gardening and farming! We depend every day on nature's wonderful miracle called "soil". Almost 100% of what we eat grows in soil and there is an old saying "No society is healthier than the soil it is growing it's food in." The last decades we have rediscovered that the soil is alive, not just some dead materia we need to add nutrients to. Soil biology is an amazing science that studies the intricate web of life under our feet and knowing a bit more makes both gardening and farming even more fun!
Not exactly sure, but search for a "Vortex blower" and you will find it. Mine pumps 21000 l/hour. The human body is made up of approximately 40 different elements. If the elements aren't in the soil then they can't be in the food so your body cannot get what it needs for optimum health. There is an old book called "The Ruth Stout no work gardening book". Miss Stout is long gone but the book is a classic. KLT
Why experiment on such large area? Maybe take a small or some small areas to do no-till, cover with dung from cows, another with chicken, another with sea-salt like dr Maynard Maynes did in Florida
You can check it simple by putting some dilluted hydrogen peroxide over a handfull of soil; if it makes ‘sound’/ sizzles it means there is much material so it reacts with the hydrogen. Try it😃
Hi Torbjorn, just saw your channel. Thanks for the effort. One simple way to check the quality of the soil is to see how ‘dark’ it is so whether it contains enough organic matter
True, I learned that the black stuff that is so hard to wash of your hands is humic acid, containing both fulvic acid and humin. Very good stuff for the soil :)
Amazing video. Would add one additional element and that is to pay attention to the existing soil. Adding humus/compost is certainly important but conditioning your starting position is even more important. Example: seed alfalfa and other cover crops to get it to rip the existing soil apart. Four feet deep roots will help structure the existing soil.
Great point! A soil test can also show the levels of calcium, if that is low and magnesium is high it will compact easily. I make calcium acetate using vinegar in lime, I think it makes it more accessible than only lime.
I got it directly from Vaderstad. I am pretty sure it is this part: partscatalogue.vaderstad.com/AssertWeb/en-GB/Vaderstad/Part/35810 but check with your dealer first so you get the right one.
