As funny as it is watching you pull every other video (lol), I think you should change this rule of one 10 draw every time you get third. Maybe make it only your losses on your alt account that count, or do 1 pull instead of 10 for every third place finish. It hurts watching your money go down the drain lol

East 1: call riichi for better value. Early wait on honor is good. East 2: riichi was fine here, it's early and your hand is cheap. I would also keep dora a little more. Value is important. East 3: don't discard dora for chiitoitsu 1-shanten. You discarded 2 han from your potential win. South 1: very early chiitoitsu 1-shanten. Try to keep terminals and honors. If you reach tenpai, you are more likely to win on those tiles. If not, those tiles are better for defense. Toitoi is fine too, but discard more dangerous tiles first. You could even kan. It's risky, but you were already in tenpai. South 1': honitsu worth 2 han, consider it. South 2: again, could go for honitsu. South 3: it's hard to do anything here.
I'd love to see you do a 4man series after this. General question about 4 man: what do you think of it compared to 3 man? I enjoy 3 man much more because it is much faster, it's easier to get hands, it's easier to get bigger hands, and it doesn't take as long to get to your turn coz only 3 players are in between. I'd love to get better at 4 man since it's like the original game mode and stuff but I have like no patience, I hate sitting there for 20 minutes and only have been in tenpai once, and it was for like a yakuhai only or something. Let me know your thoughts.
I can almost see 4 man and 3 man as two separate games. 1. Since a round finishes when 1 of the four players ron, you’re fighting for scraps like on a Black Friday sale at Walmart. You’re trying to salvage every single point you can get. So it’s more efficiency over speed. 2. I also have no patience, that’s why my 4 man is expert 3 on my main account. Got it through playing only East as well. South games require about an hour and with all that’s going on in our busy lives… we just don’t have that much time. (And my short TikTok brain) 3. The 20+5 times is either too much or it’s not enough. Maybe because I’m not too good at it just yet, but sometimes those 25 seconds is not enough to analyze all 3 players discards and play styles. On the other hand, you’re just dreading them on how slow other people play 🤣 4. If you try to use 3 man play style in 4 man games, then more often than not you will lose.
5:06 Not sure if this hand was worthy to push. If you are willing to push against riichi, I recommend at least 4 han hand in sanma (even with relatively safe tiles). If you have a few dora tiles, opponent in riichi is less likely to have a big hand and you probably have at least a mangan, so tenpai will give you positive average. With poor hand, you would have negative average even in tenpai. Open honitsu without dora is safer to play into. Sometimes you can do it to advance the game or to avoid worse. I achieved nagashi mangan recently. Literally thought "this hand is only good for nagashi mangan". Meanwhile, dealer was in riichi on East and I collected two of them in process.
My steam client version only has Chinese (traditional and simplified). So far only found the web browser version to have English. I think there was a new version coming out on steam for English at the time of writing this comment. Don’t worry, I will always include my yakuman animations… can’t guarantee if I was on the receiving end though 🤣
Normal game of sanma. Yakuman here, yakuman there. In my recent 4-player game (in Jade), I entered South 3 on 2nd place, 30000 points below 1st place. I didn't have East seat anymore and my current hand was good for quick 1000 points win. And I still managed to reach 1st place in that game. So, everything is possible.
I'm glad you finally took away the background and made the game bigger. Idk how it looks like in future videos but have you considered putting your model more on the bottom left so it doesn't cover up the left player's hand?
Good point, and I do actually look at whether they keep the drawn tile and discard a tile from their hand. I will put my model in the empty slots or adjust a bit in future. Thank you for the advice! Much appreciated.
@@solo.man.gaming Now that I take another look it seems putting it on the bottom left would cover their pons and chiis and stuff, so how about the top left? If you put it next to the dora indicator there shouldn't too much covered, up to you though.
17:06 My choice would be to play 1 and call riichi on 2-sided wait. 19:16 I never call pon on the first discarded dragon if I really need points. Sometimes I may even call an open kan from closed hand, but yakuhai is a cheap yaku for speed, not for value.
@@solo.man.gaming I found your stats in Gold. Riichi win rate is 60%, riichi deal-in rate 15%. My was 60%/11%. Somehow your riichi backfires more often, interesting.
What actually happens in Jade. I enter all last as East with with less than 10000 points. I tsumo sanbaiman, then I'm in tenpai at draw, then I tsumo baiman. One my opponent goes below zero and I miss 1st place by a few 100s points. Shouldn't complain about it, +18 rating points is better than 3rd place.
In my last game I took a risk to play into Big Three... For my pinfu nomi hand (1000 points with ron). It was turn 7, two sets of dragons were visible and another dragon was discarded once roughly 4 turns before. Move order was messed up, so it's hard to tell exact number.

@@solo.man.gaming It was very close contest for 1st place in South 3. I was slightly ahead, but if I didn't push, I would lost 1st place with high probability. At the same time, Big Three was fairly unlikely. So, my choice was to keep damaten with pinfu.

I would riichi in all last. Early riichi with 2-sided wait with no signs of opponents in tenpai or close. They may play defense, but you have high chance of tsumo. I doubt someone would discard dora tile anyway.
In this all last situation you need to deal into non-dealer's baiman or dealer's sanbaiman to get 3rd. It's very unlikely (especially with open hand). Even with 3 han visible and honitsu, it takes 3 dora tiles to reach baiman. Meanwhile, you had a good chance to get 1st. Double sided wait in cheap suit, come on. Sometimes you just should go for it. Especially because the difference between 2nd and 1st is more significant at Expert 2.
That double ron is not the worst scenario and it wasn't stupid discard. I had a sequence like this: I'm in damaten for kokushi musou, next player declares riichi, next player discards genbutsu against riichi and deals into my hand. It was supposed to be 100% safe tile.
I had another funny example recently, although I didn't win a single hand in the East round. So, I'm 2nd, 40000 points behind 1st place, 3rd place has a kan of dora dragons and I'm not East. What do I do? Declare riichi on a pinfu hand with one dora and 2 North tiles. That's a mangan, right? Result: +1 North, rinshan, tsumo, winning tile is aka-dora... And I got 4 ura-dora. One my opponent immediately went offline. They were 1st...
I have noticed that you often discard less dangerous tiles instead of completely safe. Riichi wiki describes less dangerous discard as mawashi. It's perfectly applicable with a good hand, if you are willing to push. I guess, in sanma this means mangan+ 1-shanten or tenpai with decent wait. Otherwise "even suji and hell-wait honor tiles should not be discarded before genbutsu". Besides, half-suji tiles are not safe by any means. They are less dangerous compared to middle tile with both suji available, but it's the last thing you want to discard. Everything is less dangerous than that (maybe except yakuhai dora). My deal-in rate is 12.61% currently. It wasn't always there, early games may affect it a little.

As I already stated, at some point every good player has to go through "unlucky 100". Just avoid poorly justified adjustments to your strategy. Every hand is independent, the only thing to watch is your place, points and round. Speaking of strategy, I think, it's not a good idea to keep yakuhai tiles in case someone wants it. You should consider your hand the most important. Do you need this yakuhai tile or not? Dora tiles are special, but otherwise... 1. Early discard makes completing triplet less likely. 2. You get more tiles to work with, increasing efficiency. If your opponent calls pon, they need to discard something, making it harder to complete other sets. 3. Open hand is harder to defend and less valuable. 4. If you keep it too long, pon is actually less likely, because opponent will probably call ron. If you consider defense, dangerous tiles should go before someone achieve tenpai. In the end, the most important question is "Do you need this tile? Is it useful for defense or offense?" Atozuke is not something to avoid at all cost. Yakuhai tiles are very likely to come out sooner or later. Even if someone really keeps one till the end, you are less likely to deal into their hand.
What's your problem with sanma? Played into yakuman a few times? To be fair, it would be nice to specify it somewhere in the title. People expect standard 4-player Mahjong seeing this playlist or any single video.
In a recent 4-player game I got a triplet of dora tiles and decided to go against dealer's riichi with dangerous discard. It was half-suji though and I actually tried to calculate risk. Generally, dealing into big hand is less likely if you see most dora tiles. It went through. However, on the next turn the dealer called a kan of East winds. What do you think happened next? They dealt into my hand right after their kan. And I got three kan-ura-dora (the same triplet).
Its only normal and human nature that we feel stuck when progress is stagnant. If you want/ could, you can always explore other games and genres to bring to your channel while keeping this series maybe in a schedule on certain days, anyways im sure you have your own plans and thoughts, i wish you success through your journey..it takes a lot to not give up. Three North tiles worth 3 han if called. Honitsu/Toitoihou/Honroutou worth enough to compensate it, and North actually helps with your hand. 1-shanten for riichi hand isn't bad too, because random draws can make it worse. In any case, North can be great for defense, if something went wrong.
Getting two or more Ura-dora tiles is not that rare, comparable with Tsumo chance if you refused Ron. In this case especially, since your opponents had a lot of open sets.
Recognising the place thing was something i need to hear...this might be the worst losing streak ive had for two days..its like i forgot how to play mahjong damn, down to 200 and all my copper gone and im broke (congrats on the 2nd place im jealous 😂)
Thank you haha Make sure you play the events. They give ample amounts of copper for ranked games. The only times I ran out was mostly due to buying things that I didn’t immediately need from the shop. As for understanding point difference of placements (how much 1st and 2nd are by and how much 2nd and 3rd are) is a very big factor in ranked. It gives you a sense of what kinds of hands you will need, if it’s possible with your current hand, how many rounds you have to achieve your needed hand, etc. Let’s say you need more than 36k points just to catch up to first place as second place, while last place only has 700 points left. You have an all simple hand. Might as well take the 2nd place than possible 3rd. If you take a 3rd, then you would need to play another game and get 1st just to catch back up. This is also why my 2nd place percentage is so high.
