Im 23 and got my surgery last week. Currently on day 5/6 ish, i need to sleep but was so so hungry! This is what works for me: i just ate pieces of salmon and its heaven!🙏🏼 also sweet foods or fruit makes my throat feel worse, i have not eaten much tbh but i also dont need to since i dont move a lot. I did eat a cookie which hurt but if you chew thouroughly its fine. Also eggs!!! i just use ice, icepacks to cool neck, icewater to drink (put a bottle of water in the freezer and put this in a can of water or drink from the frozen bottle. Keeping it cool minimizes the risk of bleeding. I put alarms every 4 hours and use paracetamol or ibuprofen . Day 5 used more painkillers when it got too much but i hate the stronger meds cus they make my body feel bad. I also ate egg which is soft (let it cool down) 2 weeks before i have gotten my wisdom tooth removed and to be honest that healed faster but was also pretty painful, this as well, swallowijg hurts (bring your head to your chest to minimize pain) and try to keep drinking water at night or eat ice. Keep drinking water!! Everything will be okey, 2 weeks and then the pain is over!

I am 9 days out currently and I am just starting to be able to talk again. I’ve lost around 15 pounds and on day 6 I had to go to the ER because of dehydration. This has been the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. If my tonsils grow back, they win. They can stay.

I'm gonna need to be drugged heavily the night before my wedding this November. I already struggle falling asleep when I have too much on my mind. I've already told my MOH and my mom that I'm going to need a low-grade bear tranquilizer or something to make sure I am fully rested the night before.

Here to share my whole experience as a teenager getting a tonsillectomy. I definitely got the better end of things, with not awful pain really ever. Day 1 (day of surgery): I honestly don’t remember much from this day, except that I was just exhausted the whole day after surgery. I don’t remember my pain being to terrible. Days 2-5: These were really only the rough days of recovery, and it wasn’t even really because of the pain. I just felt quite sick these couple days, I had a fever, and I just felt pretty bad because I had barely eaten anything. Although my pain was not awful and very manageable, it did still hurt to swallow quite a bit. Although, I did eat a burger patty on day 4 and a peice of pizza on day 5. Days 6-7: The worst days for pain, but this is when I finally started feeling much better. These days were when the pain medication started wearing off faster, so there was a longer time where it was more painful. This was expected though, because these were the days the scabs were coming off. Which I could actually feel, and every once in a while, it would be a really sharp pain in my throat for a couple seconds. I just took a drink of water and it immediately went away. Days 8-13: I pretty much woke up on day 8 and felt basically normal. My throat was still sore, but I stopped taking medicines around the clock and just took ibouprofen on the morning which helped for the whole day. From then on my pain just started getting less and less each day and I was pretty much able to eat any food starting day 8. It general, the pain was not as bad as I expected, the worst parts for me was the feeling sick the first few days and the only being able to eat soft foods for a little while. (I surprisingly got sick of ice cream) TIPS: -stay 👏 on 👏 top 👏 of 👏 your 👏 medicine!!!! It literally worked miracles for me, and almost instantly. Take the medicine as prescribed by the doctor around the clock, including at night, because as soon as you fall behind it is very hard to get back on top of the pain. -drink water. Water is important to heal the wounds by keeping them moist, so even if it hurts it’s important to get liquids. -ice packs! An ice pack on my throat helped a lot, especially right before you eat because it will make it sort of numb -eat real food as soon as possible. Even if it takes four hours. Cut the food into tiny little bites and chew really well, then swallow with water. As soon as you can eat real food, you will feel much better! -other things that helped was a humidifier for night time, and sleeping!! In general, it was not the most horrible experience as long as you do the right things to take care of yourself. The time actually went by super fast for me, and it was definitely worth it because I already am noticing improvement! You got this guys stay strong you will get through it!!

Not going to lie, I'm on day 6th and it's been hell. The worst pain I have ever felt in my life. The worst is waking up in the morning it's so painful and torturing, and my go to solution was to eat a popsicle while taking a hot bath that relaxes my neck, ear and jaw muscles relieving the torturous pain.

@@DenaeKgetting mine done on the 18th. Also very nervous. My surgeon told me I will hate her when she’s done with me. That was not exactly helpful. My primary care doc said oh you will be fine. He seems to think bc kids do ok that I will. He hasn’t gotten the adults don’t do as well memo. My sleep medicine doctor recommended egg drop soup. (He’s of Chinese heritage lol) and I guess a good idea bc it’s bland but also has salt and salt in an open wound sounds heinous. I’m down for water, apple juice, grape juice, protein shakes and popsicles or ice cubes). My freezer has very little space so not a ton of room to stock up on frozen things. I have a gel ice pack and already thought of premiere protein shakes so glad to hear they work. Good luck to you both above and thank you to the creator of this video. The calm attitude helps a lot. Also reminder to get up and move to prevent pneumonia and blood clots.

@@fragilefleur There was another video I watched. She said she drank aloe vera juice and it felt very soothing on her throat when nothing else did. I'm definitely going to be getting some! I think I'll get protein shakes and stuff for smoothies and some jello. I also heard to definitely avoid raspberries because the seeds are excruciating when swallowed. 😬
@fragilefleur

@@DenaeK saw someone who said coconut water was the only thing he could tolerate and it’s smart bc it has good electrolytes. The ice wrap seems like a good idea bc you can velcro it on and you don’t have to hold ice packs on your chin as well. It all sounds so awful I’m dreading it but I am trying to tell myself I can do it for two weeks. I’ve seen most people get burned out and over it after the first week when things get worse before they get better but also I think resting and keeping your throat moist seems to be the trick. I also got a humidifier bc people were saying that helped at night especially.

I got mine out on the 18th, day 13 now. For me I started feeling perfectly fine at day 10! I moved off of medication at day 11 and I haven’t had any pain since. It’s not 100% healed, but I feel like it is! I was able to start drinking citrusy and lemony stuff again by day 5, and was able to eat a lot of solids near day 6-7.

I hope you are doing well. I have someone who is very close to my heart who has went through her own trauma. A lot of what you have said about how you felt, she has said. I believe in Jesus with all my heart. No one gets away with anything in this world. Sooner or later we all have to meet our maker. My prayers are with all survivors. May God bless all survivors all the days of their lives, until we are brought to eternal peace with God.
