I have big, big plans for the future. I plan on making a video on everything I love, from Minecraft, anime, RU-vid culture, internet culture, philosophy, and whatever is on my mind. My end goal is to build a brand around my personality rather than the subject matter of my content by making obscure references to everything and making ironic jokes. Also I love Bocchi the Rock.
ive always notcied this to, player driven sotry arcs are alwasy better because they actualyl have the ability to be emtional since theirs a since of attchment either to thier "home" or relationships and player made goverments are alwasy better since goverments are a social constcut and its more intresting to see how power dynamics work when theyre not fully backed by "now pick a leader" its so mcuh more raw and real, its mroe emcaptivating to see the way players recognize nations even when the power of nations are based on the players recognizing its leadership.
Another problem with other civ videos is that while Ish looks at nations and people from the perspective of a God watching over people, other civ creators put themselves into the worlds. This severely limits their ability to tell stories as you only get stuff from one perspective, theirs. You can only root for them because, other than allies, they're the only ones you really get to know. Its biased storytelling. Ish looks at every nation, every group and every significant player, allowing you to really see what's going on, not just what's happening to this one guy. Just making the whole video so much more fun to watch.
7:35 cool that you have PopularMMOS here. Im not sure if it’s just me, but I always felt like he was less talked about during those years despite being a massive channel
The true main flaw I see with this series is that they never give anyone the spotlight. What I mean is the main center of attention, make everyone look at someone else instead of looking at the person who made the video. This is something I only realized after watching (some) lifesteal videos. I really don't care to know who any of these people are, like Fundy or the guy with the totem skin (see? I even forgot their names, some I don't even recognize), but with lifesteal? I had been checking out the channels of some of the people that star on the videos, and that is how I get to know them. I don't think the writing on Lifesteal is as good as what Wilbur provided to DreamSMP, but it's slowly getting there, and I really think Lifesteal or other SMPs could greatly benefit by introducing some youtubers who specialize in story telling and that's their main content. People like Zeemyth. Also, a lot of these people are just really bad writers, and like you said it made no sense in plot for them to talk normally
I don’t think the RU-vidrs creating personas/characters going against their real life personalities is one of the fundamental flaws that lead to the downfall. I think freedom is vital for writing. You could argue that making characters contrasting themselves IRL adds dimension due to contradiction. I think what failed the SMP is the lack of a understanding the fundamentals that bring a bunch of subplots together, to paraphrase Robert Mckee, “if you don’t have a subplot that contradicts or resonates the controlling idea, if it doesn’t complicate the main story or set up the main story’s inciting incident, if it merely runs alongside the story, it will destory its effects.” I am sure there were other flaws but I think there were so many subplots that failed what Robert McKee said that it destroyed the SMP, making the only story interesting being the original story(DREAM vs. Tommy) and Technoblade subplot since his plot complicated the “main” plot. That’s all.
Dream still gromer, also i think the downfall was mainly just because they had like 30 plots happening at once. even during lockdown people still had online classes, they dont have time to watch 30 5 hour streams every week
I stopped watching completely after Techno’s passing. I just couldn’t watch it knowing that someone, not just a “character”, but someone REAL, had gone for good. There were many others who had good stories to tell, but I just couldn’t go forward after the night I found out.
nah, the entire premise of Re:Zero is that Subaru remains one of the weakest characters in the series, having to use social engineering to survive and forcing his character to grow as a result, and while saying Homura has plot armor is more understandable, my own theory on why Homura was able to do what she did in Rebellion was because she never got her wish granted. The one exchange that needs to happen when one becomes a magical girl is to have their wish granted, which was fulfilled by everyone in the series except Homura, where she was unable to protect Madoka because she transcended reality to rewrite the system that makes magical girls witches, but at the cost of being written out of existence. To circumvent this, Homura was able to break some rules to get her wish fulfilled, because like I said, that HAS to happen for one to become a magical girl. And also, Homura acting the way she did wasn't entirely out of character; she was already pretty jaded and indifferent to everyone except Madoka, who she was excessively obsessed over. By the time of Rebellion, she already fell into despair, so I think it's at the very least plausable and understandable why she did what she did. Sorry for long explanation lol
During a road trip, I downloaded the video through an yt to mp4 converter and binged the whole thing. I have no regrets, it is more entertaining than every hollywood movie I have ever watched and gives you a sense of childishness.
Another day another victory for the OG that's what Tommy gets for trying to shit on the originals everything went downhill when bro was swinging down low
24:44 isn't this vid just you getting mad? for some "problems" that you actually barely did any research, and just check of a wiki? idk man it just feels like you making this entire vid was just for nothing just a pile of trash in the a billion other garbage debunk vids
22:21 you never completely specified how to fix them in the actual vid what is your point? maybe you could do a part 2 for this vid where you actually specify
19:26 they were just making lore man, nothing more and they literally could just play actual Minecraft with each other, yeah this is definitely reminding me of the dumb vid of "why invincible season 2 is just bad" this is just a repeat
17:52 that was the fucking egg controlling him, and the Tommy one, it did it just had a twist it still finished his saga but in a way the audience is still confused, what is even your points? i swear i feel like i'm watching a the person that called invincible season 2 bad
Only watched it for the Technoblade moments. With him gone, it feels so squandered looking back. Truly a key moment in internet culture moving forward, for better or for worse.
7:15 Context: Wazz0ck committing this caused the two sides of the jungle to leave their differences behind and unite to make him pay for having killed 7 innocent players, thus avoiding a large-scale war on the server, and after a while of being on the run , decided to return to be executed for his actions and his last words were the first lyrics of a song that would be played in the Final part of the Video, the battle of the Iron Torch. It's simply PEAK.
Dream is the final antagonist of the story, threatening, powerful but beatable. Yet, Techno felt like a "force of nature" villain. Yes, you can run from Techno, but he WILL find you and wreck you.
There's realistically 0 chance it could ever come back either, you've got the main writer turning out to be an domestic abuser, tommy and dream are no longer friends, most of smp members sided with quackity over the qsmp drama and technoblade is gone. It would've have been impossible without all these people.
I remember people talking about the DreamSMP and its roleplays and I legit remember thinking. "So, it's some cringey dogshit?" until I caved and watched it. I love stories especially political drama and DreamSMP made me happy however from a mile away when realizing it was 'disc this disc that' I knew once the disc saga ended...it would be over, and when Techno died, I think that was the last straw for everyone. Though many things have happened, good and bad, The DreamSMP I will admit, did achieve something great.
