Oh, I've had this issue in the past. I'm an ex-producer that worked with a vocalist. He really liked what I was working on and asked if he could lend his voice. Of course, I accepted and we worked together. After the song was written, I sent it to him and he happened to release the track without asking if I thought it was ready for the public. I would've said no, but regardless, I wasn't asked. After he released it, I didn't see a single penny from him. It's still up there on Spotify and he's earning commission while my foolish self hasn't seen a cent. I let him have the track. I took this as a lesson and, truth be told, my song is probably the only good song he has lol. I've since made a new artist profile and I will always write everything down from here on out. I will also never send unfinished work to people as I am now aware that they'll just claim it was theirs.
Hey I recently purchased beat from a producer in my music labels name. I had no plans to give the producer publishing or any royalties, since he been on my neck for a fee to purchase the beat so I can own it myself. Now he asking for 50%publishing ??? Can I tell him no and keep 100% for my label and artist on the beat. 🙏 thankyou
Sir if a promoter brokers the deal for $50,000 but tells the artist the fee is $25000 can't the promoter still exploit the artist collecting the $25000 off the books and an additional $2500 in agent's fees? How to ensure as an artist that you are fully aware of the deal that was brokered by your agent?
If the agent brokers a deal (a legal agreement) between the promoter and the artist, then the artist should receieve a copy of the gig contract. In this scenario the invoice is also issued to the promoter in the artist's name, and the artist should also have a copy of this. Therefore, the artist should have at least two separate documents which state the total fee being paid for the gig.
Hi Sean, the problem is that sometimes you can choose only between Cola or Fanta... and both are not what your taste is really about... A huge waste of time with many managers....
i have a call with a booking agent in about an hour, i’ve been gigging and putting out music for awhile but i’ve never had talks with an agent. this shed some light on what i should look for and how to go about the conversation with them! thank you!
That's a very difficult question to answer properly. There is too much to explain and consider in a short message. But also, any answer will need to reflect your cicumstances, talent, current progress and vision. Sorry I cannot give you a clear answer. We do provide private 1-2-1 coaching and teaching if you want to book a session, I would be happy to help you with a direction to move forwards and give you a pathway to get there. It's what we help artist clients with every day. email me for a booking or if you have a more specific question that I might be able to answer for you. hello@theartistguides.net
Thanks for this good message and clarification. I am from Kampala Uganda, there's a radio presenter in Uganda called DJ. Bantam who said exactly what you are saying, I happy that it's the same here
You're welcome. Thank you for taking the time to comment. It's great to hear from you in Uganda! I'm glad the video was useful, and that the information is relevant to how things work in your country. Best wishes
Yes, this is a pillar of good marketing for all of the reasons you explained. And, for God's sake, if someone gives you their email address, you MUST email. They're expecting it. Don't just collect email addresses and sit on them. Make sending an email a part of your regular routine. Whether it's once a month or once a week, just start. And don't always ask your audience to do something, email when life is just ticking along. Bring them into your world.
There is no clear answer to what you have asked. There are too many possible scenarios. If you wish to give more information, then I will try and help you with an answer
Absolutely love this video. it is so well explained, ideas well structured, and your videos seem to have this more global perspective than just tackling randomly a few topics here and there in a disorganized way. I am someone who loves Pop music but also love different styles in the pop music. therefore it becomes very difficult to know what direction to take but this video will help me, hopefully, re centering myself back to the foundation before moving forward with marketing strategies etc. and I really love when you make us realize that Sonic identity is even more crucial for emerging artist with no or few audience. I was lost lately but hope this will help for what's gonna come next. Big thanks!
Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm very pleased you like our videos and appreciate you taking the time to give us such a thoughful and insightful comment. All the best with your music and we wish you success!
Super helpful video, thank you!!! I’ve released two singles so far, and they have completely different styles, which I realize now through this video was not the smartest choice…! But that is how you learn and improve. So thanks again for this great video!
You are welcome. Thanks for taking the time to comment, it is much appreciated. I'm pleased the video was helpful for you. And, yes, learning and improving is what it's all about. Best wishes for your music project
This is a large topic, and there are many aspects and strategies, but a good starting place is the existing audiences of other artists. Look for artists that will likely have an audience who will be interested in your music as well. You can then consider which of these artists are slightly ahead of you with their success, as they will be operating in areas of the industry that you are aiming for, such as support shows, promoters, labels, etc. All the best.
Great information! I'm looking for some feedback on my daughter's first song ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HNQAzzzz_GM.htmlsi=6z9Hmmrgs_v8VyFX
