I'm on day 5 post op and I am feeling much better however day 3 and 4 which I wasn't really made aware of by the doctors were excruciating to the point I ended up back in hospital on an IV drip and morphine I tried yogurts, Milkshakes and ice creams but nothing seemed to ease it I couldn't swallow or even take the medication they had prescribed me as it was way too painful. I haven't managed to eat since the operation which has caused weight loss (obviously) but I can now swallow easier still stings like a prickly feeling and almost feels like when you inhale water through your nose and it gets stuck at the back of the throat. Day 5 now and I'm feeling better the scabs are starting to come off which you can feel and taste (vile btw), out of hospital and back on normal painkillers I decided to watch some videos others posted about their experiences and thought I'd share mine so my advice to anyone going through getting a tonsillectomy is get liquid forms of painkillers, drink plenty of water and get plenty of sleep which is hard but doable. When I do manage to get my voice back I'm thinking about doing a video too because watching this one really helped me ease my mind on thinking there was something wrong. Oh and p.s. the aloe water not the best flavour but it does work.
Read a couple of comments, and I see a lot of similarities. I'm on day 8 now and still feel like dying, ok not compared to like day 3-4 but still nasty pain, eating and drinking. I lost 7kgs, that's about 15 poundville units, that's the only postitive thing about it right now. Mine where specially big also and I'm kind of an elderly too, being 35, but I had enough of getting sick 4-6 times a year for the same thing, @Macy Thompson how is life now? Worth it?
Something that helped me ENDLESSLY was liquid Tylenol and liquid ibuprofen- alternate between those two every 3 hrs and there was NO pain. Never had to take the emergency prescribed meds my doctor gave me, thank goodness because that is what would make me nauseous. Try to avoid having to use those at all costs, that way you're not getting nauseous. I didn't get sick the whole time!! Also, POPSICLES, ALOE WATER, APPLE SAUSE POUCHES, and PUDDING!! Nothing more needs to be said about those things, they were my holy grailllll in my recovery. If you are eating soft foods with dairy in them, chase every bite with a liquid, so phlegm doesn't build up!! Wishing you all a quick + and safe recovery!!
Never wnat go out state school bc I didn’t taking sat and now I want transfer but that not go bc my mom want me stay in school I am in now and not hate to be in state school. I’m on day 4 and this has been the worst day so far. I’m trying to drink water but everything feels weird to swallow. Hopefully this will improve around day 8.
I am on day 5 and every moring i wake up around 4 am, crying so hard this is the worst pain of my life. I cant swallow ANYTHING and i haven't ate anything for 5 days and i want an IV but I can't get one. I always feel like im gonna pass out and im dehydrated. I have been taking 2 ibuprofen and tylenol every couple hours and im still in hellish pain. My breath is so nasty and i can taste it its so gross 😭 i have lost 9 pounds and im always shaking. I am NOT doing well. I cant even swallow my own spot :/
I just did tonsillectomy 3days before and it is too irritating pain but it is getting slowly better by eating icecream popsicle etc.hope it will get fast recovery. I have drink lot of water to make myself hydrated
When ever I got out of surgery I started trowing up and after that my mom asked me if I knew what time it was and I said something like 11:45 and then I said “I’m not stupid!”😂 and then I said ok I’m ready to like right after waking up and got up and started walking out of the door and my mom was Bailey you can’t leave yet!😂
I’m on day 2. Eating while I can. Hurts so bad to swallow. Been drinking water every hour frequently since surgery. I’m scared for it to get worse. Felt super sick from taking the oxycodone liquid, Tylenol dissolve, and ibuprofen the first day. I have reduced it to just Tylenol dissolve packs every 4-5 hours. First night of sleep was kind of rough. Got super congested in the morning. On a diet of apple sauce, Greek yogurt, chicken noodle soup, fair life protein drink, and a velveeta Mac and cheese. I also just started drinking aloe water. I don’t like the taste but I’m drinking what I can with my Mac and cheese, then I’m gonna go to bed with just my normal water. I’ve also been icing my neck about 4 times per day! Probably should ice more. Trying to stay ahead of the pain. I’m mentally preparing for day 3!
I'm on day 6 and my experience is nowhere near as bad as some people have described. 1/ Start eating solid food from day 1 2/ Use ice packs for your neck and jaw 3/ Keep up with your medication
I’m here 3 years later and I’m so scared of getting them out but I have such bad chronic tonsilitis and have flares every month. So I might as well deal with it being worse for a couple weeks than deal with it every week lol but I have lupus so I don’t heal normal like others so I’m also concerned about that too lol! Just being a big baby about it. 🙊
I’m on day 7 rn and my ears have been hurting more than my throat and I just want this to be over with. And I can’t even really take pain meds because it hurts to swallow them. Been missing eating actual food cause all I can manage is fruit popsicles. Can anyone tell me if it’s worth it in the end
seeing this & reading these comments makes me feel so lucky... i'm on day 6 rn & have had manageable pain this whole time. was super scared of yesterday & today as they're supposed to be the worst days but it was not that bad. it hurts but after i take pain meds i can eat & drink no problem.
OMG I want to get this done but not sure if I can handle the recovery... I'm such a baby when it comes to pain and I'd so be totally questioning all my life choices and feel like I'm gonna die

Thanks for the video. I am so worried now because I will have my surgery soon. The worst part is that I will have 3 surgeries at 1 time: Tonsillectomy, Septoplsty and Turbinate Reduction. I can only imagine how much pain I am going to suffer.
