Founded in 1995, The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is the nation’s largest natural-habitat refuge developed specifically around the needs of Asian and African elephants. It operates on 3,060 acres in Hohenwald, Tennessee.
The Sanctuary also works to raise public awareness of the complex needs of elephants and the crisis facing elephants in the wild. The Elephant Discovery Center, The Sanctuary’s educational center with exhibits focused on elephants’ role as a keystone species, is open to visitors in downtown Hohenwald. The elephants’ habitats are closed to the public.

"Dinosaurs are represented today by their descendants... birds." How? Birds are avian, not reptilian. I thought a dinosaur's descendants would be another reptile like an iguana or alligator. Please explain.
Wow look at them- that far out view was fantastic!!! Thank you for taking good care of them! Just wanted to make sure the camera sounds will not frighten them.
Thank you TES for the loving home you provide for the elephants. Sadly, it's one of a very few places on the entire planet that they are safe. But for them, it has to feel like Heaven on earth. .... We all have to do everything we can to help protect elephants in the wild and help the ones living in cruel lives of circuses, zoos or giving rides in any number of places around the world. They need our help. 🙏🐘❤🐘🙏
First I have to say, what an amazing find in your shelter dig. WOW!!! I love elephants and we need to do all we can to protect them. It's sad how many of these beautiful animals we are losing every day to habitat loss and poaching. I'm glad that there are places like TES to save and protect elephants.
I'm so happy this place and others like it exists. I think zoo's and places like sea world are cruel and could take a lesson from how you do things. Let the animals be animals, observe from a distance without disturbing them, and interact only as necessary for their well being.
Ten years ago, as a Facebook memory reminded me, I met Nosey at a carnival in Marne, Michigan, having been made aware on Facebook that she would be there, and that she was being held by an abusive man. He was selling rides on her, and she was chained to a wheel which he forced her to walk around. Nosey was thin and looked miserable. I spoke to her quietly. Then I told people who approached that he was abusive and asked them to think twice about giving him money and riding her. I also spoke to the man, her captor, and told him I knew that he was treating her badly and he should let her go to a sanctuary. I'd heard she finally was gotten away from him and into a sanctuary. Just did a search to see how she is doing and found this video. She looks so beautiful and happy, so free to be herself! Gratitude to the people who keep the Sanctuary going, and rescue elephants, and educate people about them.
I protested for Nosey in Davenport when she was still owned by that heinous Liebel family. I have a photo of her on my fridge to remind me to say a prayer every morning for all of the others who were not lucky enough to find the peace and comfort that Nosey now has.
