What a great move you have made. Old enough to know what you are doing and young enough to adapt and change. Once the food garden is established and the first winter is out of the way then I guess you will have truly settled

I love seeing the starting point of your property! It's beautiful and has so much potential. The view from the fire pit area is so pretty. I look forward to seeing what you do with your home in the future.

The cabin definitely needs new siding boards, the camper van for the guests needs desperate cleaning (the outside really looks dirty), the yard needs cleaning from the overgrown grass and bushes, and the chicken enclosure needs to be redone, too, because at least to me it looks horrible. Sorry for my sincerety, but there are videos of many other people living in the woods permanently and their yards and overall properties look much tidier, neater and well-maintained. This one looks really run-down and not too nice. I don't know you, so I guess you have just moved in, so there's a lot of work ahead of you. Good luck with that.

@danapertile106 Oh, I definitely agree! There's so much to do. It's a bit tricky in our situation, with my husband working away for weeks at a time, I really can't do much yardwork with my baby and toddler, as far as mowing. But he just got home and got a lot done! The outside of the trailer also does need a major cleaning. It's so hard to know what to prioritize when the to do list is endless, but we're chipping away at things. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 🙂

Have you used the wood burning oven yet? That dining room view is gorgeous! Haha love the bear comments. I'd love to see just a walkthrough of everything left by the previous owners, and the positives and negatives of having that be apart of the house sale. The outdoor shower seems so random, but so useful especially with your current scary shower situation. Have you used it yet? Garden walkthrough please!! For such a little house, there is so much great entertaining space! How does the automatic greenhouse windows work? I appreciate and the love the realness of the house tour, with the kids, and the outfit changes. ❤️

Yes I have! The first time I did, I burned the top of my granola, but after that it's been pretty smooth sailing. I've made granola, biscuits, puff pancakes and a strawberry rhubarb crisp in it. I won't be using it now probably until the fall since we don't need to make fires in the wood stoves. Honestly I would never again include items in a house sale. It was far too complicated and there were some misunderstandings. We thought it was all clear, but it wasn't. I don't recommend it! Haha We have used the outdoor shower, mostly for rinsing off after working in the garden or walking around barefoot. I love it for that! About the greenhouse windows that open, I don't remember exactly, but there's fluid inside hydraulic hinges that expands as it heats up and opens the window. Something like that? 🤷‍♀️ Glad you liked the tour, thanks so much for the comment! I'll for sure do a garden tour at some point.😊

I love the sneak peak of your puppy! Also that shop is such a great space. The camper trailer is so cool. What a fantastic addition. The windows as you walk in provide awesome natural light. I was going to ask about the ceiling in your loft. So much character to your house. I love it! That pantry space is to die for. One of my dream items on a house is to be able to have a window looking out over my property above the kitchen sink. So picturesque Did the chickens come with the property? Are you going to upgrade the chicken coop? I was going to ask about the super dirty wall behind the kitchen wood burning stove. Haha didn't realize it was concrete until you said it.
@thehomeintent
@thehomeintent 2 дня назад
I'll introduce our puppy in another video. She's growing so fast, its crazy! Three of the chickens came with it and we got 5 after we moved. We will definitely be upgrading the chicken coop situation because we barely get enough eggs for our whole family! We need more chickens. We eat a lot of eggs... your comment about the super dirty wall behind the woodstove made me laugh out loud! Im glad I shared that it was concrete. 😂

When we move it seems that later on down the track we move stuff again. It will become easier over time with more purpose. Not easy with children in tow, but we make it work. Carry on with the video's. How did you find your new place??

Christmas such a wonderful time of the year no matter where you happen to be living at the time. See things there even I remember, Like hot Ham & cutting meat with an electric knife, both things learnt when I lived in the USA., which I had never seen before. A I would normally have cold ham been summer here at that time and it's never and will ever be my intention to get cuts of meat straight, Takes all the fun out, and you learn a new skill. I even remember the mashing potatoes in the pot in the sink.. Thank you for some reminders of some memories.

This the first video I have watched of your's and I really loved it. I think you have a wonderful place that has plenty of room for when your children grow up and although it might seem that you have many jobs get to it how you want it there will be some to do well before others. You probably already have a list. Securing your house to the ground would be my first job in my opinion. A barrier around the wood stoves would be my second choice, to keep little crawling hands away from a hot fire. I am going to enjoy watching you grow in your garden over time as grass is nitrogen which is good for a garden, so weed block it with a heap of carboard, muich and home made compost over time and grow something where your waste water is pumped to.So many things you already have. I hope to follow what looks like will be so rewarding for you all..
@thehomeintent
@thehomeintent 3 дня назад
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, we have quite a list of changes and improvements to make. I don't know what it is about wood stoves, but my baby sure loves them and tries to get to them! For now it's alright since we aren't using them, but in the winter we'll for sure need to figure something out. I'm a beginner gardener so I've got a lot to learn! Please feel free to give tips and advice when you see me doing something that could be improved or done differently. Thanks again for the comment and for following along. Let me know if there's anything in particular you'd like to see in future videos as well! 🙂

@thehomeintent
@thehomeintent 4 дня назад
Thanks! We'll we've got a few apple trees, one we're pretty sure is crabapple and not sure about the others. Time will tell! There's a tree that our plant app says is a plum tree, but it doesn't look like it will bear fruit this year. There are tons of lilies, irises, ferns, lilacs around. There are wild raspberries, strawberries and blueberries in abundance as well, which we are so thankful for! Although we'll have to be more cautious about bears when all the berries are ready

I admire your grit for learning how to manage all of that during the times your husband works away! You go girl! I'm sure there are many adjustments, but soon enough it will all feel second nature. Convenience isn't all its cracked up to be. It's really good to be more connected to the normal, everyday functions of life.

Now the mason jars Washington soapy water and boil them the standard to sanitize them and they make great storage. For food and stuff like that. And then one day once you guys get your garden inner structure going you can start preserving in Canning . Have a great day

Hello 👋🤗 we are new to the channel . Hit the like and subscribe button. And you guys have a beautiful cabin. And it's really not hard to cook on the wood stove you just got to learn to judge the temperature of the stove with what you're cooking because it will cook fast. And its all a learning experience and learning from the different things you come across. Good luck and looking forward to see more videos

@@thehomeintent there's a big homestead in off-grid living community. And for the most part always ask questions. When I have my son and me do we read a lot of books. Plus we live in the pine barrens here in New Jersey. And have property up in Maine that hopefully we're going to start homesteading towards the end of the year.

Mount those panels vertical, never clear snow again or wash them, the rain yesterday blasted mine clean, I have a vid on a simple ground mount. 1000-gal propane tank $3200 used run the gen for 3 months, fill once or twice a year, LNG kit for champion? Or get a second gen never rely on 1 gen, something like a Midland power with remote dual fuel, add regulator and 10' hose $40. I bought a ($250)50ft L50 cord, plug that straight into the gen for a dryer. If it overloads the gen (unlikely) run the dryer on medium heat. $2900 USD to add 19.2 kw or 48v 400AH of lead carbon AGM, just a + and -, no brms, no equalizing, charge/discharge at -40, non-spillable, safe and 97% recyclable, good performance 30 to 70% S.O.C., maintenance is full charge once every 30 days. Idk what batteries you have but maybe able to add the 19.2 kw to the existing. Lead carbon in 12v100 12v250 6v400. One upgrade everything you own turned on plus a 350-watt heater 24hr a day with induction cooktop, or microwave, kettle add full sun run the dryer too. You could add a 2 to 3 hours of a 1500w heater, having just the 350w heater you still keep a fire just smaller use a lot less wood. Dryer usage not from gen up to 6kw@240v inverter needed charge rate 100amp minimum. More gravel all over the gen/wood pile area asap, spark arrestor or not you can cook a hot dog off a 10k gen exhaust but don't eat it. In winter (-30) point the gen exhaust at the front of the truck use your hand (3ft away to start) to measure heat, warms oil and battery, 1 crank and start. Gen too cold, 18hr body warmers 12hrs before starting on oil pan, carb too if on gas, or coals in a covered cast iron pot under the gen for an hour, my LNG was flawless to -30f. My 1st inverter had a firmware issue required me to run a gen 3 to 4 hrs a day for 120 days, it sucks using a gen. I swapped inverter gave it a 1hr 5.4kw charge in March haven't used the gen since that day. My 2790 w array peaked at 3414w with snow and sun vertical mounted Jan@-25c, 460w rare to 780w in overcast. If you have external water tank you can wrap it in reflectix 2x and run an exhaust fan from a floor vent to the insulated area or insulated coop, 30w to run an 80cfm bathroom fan. I run my vent to a fully enclosed basement under the trailer with 600gal water and grey filter inside, -33c tank was +.7 but adding a 175w heater this year. Mark would love my yard a deer hwy, 13 deer withing 20 yards, never left feed.
