Lights and cameras are a must. I have solar powered blinking red lights alongside my driveway that let anyone entering my property know they have been seen before they get all the way to the house. I have a very similar bag hanging on my bedroom door. I like how you have a TQ accessible on the outside of the bag.

Another good video. Folks should know that the reality of home defense is this: statistically you will be on the sofa or in the kitchen if there's a home invasion (versus a break-in). i.e. not near the long gun. People generally don't have time to open a safe of one of those cool bookshelf things. You're probably going to be limited to what you have on body. So I think it's important to wear your holster until you go to bed. I occasionally have to grab my shotgun on my way out the door if there's a coyote chasing my chickens so staging it by the door has a purpose. I might grab my AR from my bedside if my yard cams show me a bunch of dudes sneaking up on the house. Situation dictates equipment and tactics. You should get a can for that 300 blackout by the way or include earpro with your home defense bag.

Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it. You said you don't reach for the POM as much as you used to? How much was that? Why did you have to reach for it so much? Here's the the real question... where's the TQ? I know you've got your big IFAK but what about an EDC TQ. If you're not close to your car (or wherever you keep the IFAK) how are you going to stop an arterial bleed? I run a bit heavier I guess. 1 spare mag, 2 tourniquets (compact Snakestaff), POM, small ankle med kit, front pocket minimal RFID wallet, dedicated emergency flashlight, tiny keychain flashlight, smartwatch, phone, M&P 9mm, NSR holster, folding knife in pocket for day to day, fixed blade on the belt for fighting, GTFO bracelet with handcuff key (check the video on my channel), a Handcop Counter escape bracelet, and a RoadiD bracelet. Sounds like a lot I know and there times that it's not practical to carry all of it. My principles for defensive tools carry are built on the belief that you carry to save lives, not take lives. 1. it's more important to carry a TQ than a gun (but unless I'm in the shower or in bed I carry both). 2. holsters should never have plastic clips and really should have mechanical attachment to your belt (soft loop is good). 3. not everything needs to be shot (dogs, drunks, and dumbasses) so I always carry OC. 4. if I'm going to carry something I'm going to seek out training for it and then practice what I learn. It's common for people to undergo an arc when they start down this path. From carrying too little to carrying too much and getting burned out because the stuff never gets used and losing some of their heavy EDC. The cautionary tale is this; when some folks start making excuses for not carrying things they eventually reach the "I only carry a gun when I'm going someplace I might need it" phase. That's the worst possible mindset. The fact is, you'll probably never use the POM or the TQ or the gun. That's good. You'll probably never need fire insurance of your house or fire extinguishers in your garage or accidental death insurance. But most people would never consider getting rid of those things because in 5 years they never used them. I'd be interested in a video documenting your journey so far. Like how and why you got started, your background, your training experiences, etc.

In the States the shotgun would be safer for those outside your home. A rifle round may go through your walls and hit a neighbours home.
@capt.raptor4650
@capt.raptor4650 Месяц назад
I'm pretty sure this has largely been debunked. double aught buck penetrates drywall more than 5.56 FMJ (M193) out of a short barrel (think it was 14.5"?) in short, if you were to get a 14.5" barreled AR upper with a pin-and-welded flash hider on it, and you loaded your rifle with M193 FMJs (or, even better, hollow points), you would have less of a chance of penetrating drywall than a regular 12 gauge shotgun with the most prevalent defensive load, #00 buck.
@DrDuckMD
@DrDuckMD Месяц назад
@@capt.raptor4650thing is most people don’t get pin and welded 14.5” uppers. So a 16-20” upper is what most people have. Which will definitely over penetrate. Still 5.56 out of a carbine length barrel will over penetrate dry wall and siding and who knows where that round will end up. M193 55gr 5.56x45mm will penetrate drywall easily at a minimum 3 layers of drywall, if it doesn’t hit a stud or conduit in the wall. M855 62gr 5.56x45mm penetrates soft barriers even better. At the self defense distances in a home which at max is 20 yards. It will easily penetrate barriers. When I was a teenager I made the stupid decision to shot my ruger 10/22 in my parents home at the wall, from one side of the room to the other was roughly 12 yards. The 22lr 40gr solid point broke through the drywall, then the exterior wood wall and then the asbestos siding. My dad found out when he came home From work because there was an obvious hole on the house. He was fucking pissed.

@@capt.raptor4650 If you hit hard siding, timber, nails, insulation it may stop a bullet. Many hallways have windows or rooms with windows at the end of them. Chances of buckshot seriously harming someone after traveling a 5 meter hallway, 4 meter room, 1 window, 5 m of yard 10m of roads and pathways, 5 m of the neighbours' yard and through their window is less likely with the mass of buckshot vs the mass of a bullet.

I got a plethora of options within arms reach for home defense but my go to is an 11.5" east india build with carry handle irons and a flashlight. Simple and sweet. The runner up is a glock 17 with a flashlight. Everything else in the safe isnt ideal for close quarters

I agree with your assessment, and always recommend people use whichever platform they're MOST PROFICIENT with for home defense. I have way more rounds through my G19 than I do with my AR pistol, or my Mossberg 590... so that's sort of my order of preference. Selection also depends on what the threat is and how much advanced warning I get (the right tool for the job). Ideally everyone should have all three as options , but hopefully no one ever has to make the choice in a hurry! Keep up the good work!

Good content overall... but if you toss that airsoft device at the cops, they're not just going to fall back and regroup to find out what's happening. For all intents and purposes from their perspective, you (the "bad guy") have just attacked them with some kind of BOOM!, so their first instinctual reaction is to start shooting as they get to cover. Even in the scenario where they've got the wrong house, THEY don't know that. They're already in a high-stress, high-adrenaline fight mode and they're not going to be thinking slowly or logically, calmly communicate with you, or give you the benefit of the doubt. If you KNOW it's the police, you've got better options... or you're going to get Malinowski'd. If you DON'T KNOW it's the police, (whether it is or isn't) your tactic *might be a good option... or you still might get Malinowski'd. I'm not saying you shouldn't use that tactic, or that you shouldn't defend yourself and your home - if someone kicks in your door and they haven't identified themselves as LE, they get the BOOM! and the business end of that 300BLK. The airsoft device is a great idea in the non-law enforcement scenarios, but a terrible idea if it does happen to be LEOs. Just my opinion. I subbed for more content! Best of luck!
@alertcivilian
@alertcivilian Месяц назад
You make some great points! I'd never use anything like this when someone is identifying themselves as LEOs. In turn, early detection is also key. I know when someone starts approaching my home from a good distance away. Should help me determine if there is a real threat approaching...
@force_majeure4070
@force_majeure4070 Месяц назад
@@alertcivilian Totally agree. Deterrence strategies are crucial for keeping the "casual" criminals out, and early warning strategies are crucial for determining whether the "visitors" are true threats or LE, which absolutely dictates my reaction. Now that you've talked about it, I'm actually considering adding these to my home defense options. You never know when it'll become the best option! Thanks!

While the wait times are WAY low (nephew just got his approval in 13 days), get a suppressor, especially for the .300 blackout. You don't want to be shooting an AR indoors (ie home defense) inside your home if you value your hearing. Personally, my AR and secondary both have suppressors on them. 8" .300 Blackout (registered SBR) with subsonic loads and an FNX-45 (.45 ACP is naturally subsonic).
