This channel is dedicated to helping youth football coaches become more successful in both youth tackle football and 7on7 Football. Your host, Joel Forsberg, will go deep into the details of offensive formations and plays, defensive formations and schemes, practice drills, coaching philosophy, and play calling. Each video will dissect one of these topics in an attempt to help youth coaches become more informed and ready to coach at a higher level. The game of youth football is very different than even high school or college football and almost completely different than pro football. That is why we need to focus on youth football coaching as it’s own topic and that is just what this channel does. Welcome.
4-4 ran right can confuse tf out of an offense and you can contain everywhere... by far the best defense for youth football. Also, when kids reach about 10 yrs old, they should be able to remember about 8-10 plays both sides of the ball pretty easily. Treat them little, and they'll always be little.
A. this guy thinks a lot of himself. B. good coaches teach honor and respect, not "that coach is dumb" or "that QB (16y.o. ??? who will probably watch this) wasn't good / worse athlete". You can tell this "coach" missed days 1-5 of leadership class based on those statements alone.
Hard to find good content for the bad news bears out there, so thanks again: My goal in flag is to win games with a bunch of smart and driven kids that are outmatched physically, from 2nd to 7th grade. No surprise that coaches that lose don’t make content, but has to suck for that 60% of coaches, with minimal talent on teams, trying to implement the advice out there
I have searched everywhere on Yt and you appear to be the only person taking about man coverage for young kids, because of the kids abilities at different ages. I’m coaching to counter full court presses in basketball for 4th graders this season, but there is no content I can find about blitzing in flag football with man coverage as much as possible, or whatever else to rush opponents decisions. I wish smart guys like you would produce content for kids 1-2 years younger than yours, basically all hindsight and taking advantage of opponents lack of abilities and shortcomings.
As much as you love to hear yourself talk, telling coaches not to pass heavy is nonsense. It’s far more difficult for youth defenses to defend pass as opposed to run. Youth defensive coaches spend all practice long working on run and just kinda mention pass coverage. Also, it doesn’t take 7 seconds for a route to develop. That’s absurd.
4-3 is a very versatile defense but not needed in youth football when 90 percent of plays are runs. You need 8 in the box. So that strong safety is probably more of run stopper in this defense. Keep the d-line out of the lbs way and let them run to the ball. Also, never allow the dline to have 2 gap responsibility. Play 3 deep zone so the corners won’t have to turn their back to the ball. 3 funda
I coach 7v7 5th grade rookie tackle. I want to base my offense around pro formation. Also run a lot out of shotgun. Mostly run based. Any tips or plays i may be missing? Thanks
Joel, enjoyed your 7 on 7 video. In the video you mentioned drills for man coverage. Could you recommend a channel or a drill video to learn more about this defense
Awesome video Coach. In my 8u league, every team runs the ball and the OL has tight splits. Will a 3-4 scheme work? I fear that we won’t be able to stop the run with a 3 man front. Would love your insight coach.
Your LBs (DOGS) behind the Tackles will fill the gaps the way I do it. Pinch your tackles hit B gap and LBs hit C gap. Loop is the opposite..nose has A gap.. OLB have outside containment and I always have them blitz outside in... I also only use 1 safety with a MLB that will help with A gap and blitz.
I’m really interested in your knowledge of 7v7? I coach youth tackle football but have been wanting to get into 7v7. Thanks for the videos you have. Diving into all the 7v7 stuff lol
Young kids will easily get lost in a mesh concept. Nobody is coming to help him either because it’s man. Man only works well if you have the more dominant players IMO.
Just to answer a few questions. One of the reasons we have it on opposite end of the field is that we also use this drill as partly conditioning. There’s only a few guys standing around watching, and they’re usually getting a breath, because as soon as we sprint over to the other side of the field after the four downs they’re jumping in and the other guys are jumping out. It’s really fast pace. The guys aren’t standing around long. We have other drills for running backside plays like traps and such. This one isn’t made for that though. Playbook coming out soon.
Awesome stuff coach! The only thing I would suggest is to line the offense up from the middle cones and not the sideline. Like spot the ball next to cones. More game like and better visual for us here also. So left side of offense just left of the cones. Right side just right of the cones. Sidelines are still the sidelines.
