Pazzia pura...

Absolutely. The crack is considered best-in-class, if you're willing to put the time into assembling (and possibly troubleshooting) it. Also, the fact that it's DIY means you have infinite upgrades down the road.

Andrea
@stefandre2007
@stefandre2007 8 лет назад
+Andrea Dominici Ciao! Grazie!

Funny to see some of the same mistakes I've been doing for years, which kept me from achieving real stable planning ;) First and foremost : trust your harness, not your arms ! Your arms should be straight and relaxed, not permanently under tension. It's your body's weight that's supposed to balance sail's power through harness, your arms are just there to control sail's power intensity by opening/closing sail according to wind variations. They must also push the sail away from you when necessary, to keep harness loops under permanent tension. It's crucial to choose a harness that suits both your navigation position, and your body's center of gravity (seems to me yours is not tight enough), and learn to set your harness loops accordingly. Second : looks like you're holding boom too close from mast with front hand (maybe harness loop itself is too close from mast, hard to say from this angle). The resulting combination of forces (you + sail + board) pulls you towards front of board instead of side, which puts you in that wrong navigation position, where you're permanently resisting with your front leg, not to get catapulted. Another side effect is that it's impossible to get stability in that position, because the axis formed by your center of gravity and the pressure center of the sail is too close from the axis of the board itself (both seen from above). Hence, you don't put enough pressure on the board's fin to get stability, and when board starts to accelerate, you can't prevent it from making zigzags, eventually getting you catapulted anyway. Your harness loops ends should be equidistant from the point on the boom that's facing the center of pressure of the sail (your instructor can show you how to find that point). Then when sailing, once your arms are straight and you throw all your weight in the harness, you can start to gradually get your front hand away from the mast. Actually, it all takes place at the same time, while your front hand slides backwards on the boom, board nose slides away from wind direction, sail naturally starts to tilt backwards and your body itself rotates progressively from over the board to over the water (to compensate for sail power direction). Then you find yourself perpendicular to your board and it magically starts to fly ! At this point, you'll discover that the board's foot straps, that you thought were completely misplaced on the deck, now fall naturally under your feet. To put your feet in the straps, the little secret is to temporarily put a vertical pressure on the boom with both hands (like a little monkey hanging to a branch as my teacher said), to compensate for the unbalance caused by your rapid lifting of foot to put it in strap. You must absolutely avoid to destroy the equilibrium you've just reached, or board will lose speed and stop planning, and you'll have to start over. Once the board has started planning, gently hang to boom and put front foot in front strap, then stabilize your position, approaching gradually back foot from back strap. Then hang to boom again and put back foot in back strap. I won't spoil and let you put your own words on the next sensation ;) Hope this can help. Cheers.

+Eric de Lareberdiere Thanks for the advise man! I know I'm still doing a lot a mistakes. Don't know why but I wasn't able to find a stable position that allowed me do put feet in the straps, relax my arms and still be able to manage wind speed changes. And trust me, I kept trying for a week! I should take a good 1 to 1 lessons once in a while. Certainly I will not give up trying to improve my self!

+Andrea Stefanello I personally Always look at the water in front of me, if there are some huge amount of wrinkles caused by wind in the water in front of me, I know to lean back more than normal. Btw: to find your harness loop ideal point, this is what I did: hold the boom with one hand, try to find a spot on the boom where the sail doesn't want to pull itself to the front or back and just feels stable in your hand, that's the point where the middle of the loop is supposed to be. I hope it helped you!

Glad if it can help make someone progress faster ;) It literally took me years of struggling and frustration, summer after summer, until one day of 2015, when I met a windsurf instructor that cared more than previous ones, and with a better sense of observation. The guy listened to my complaints and decided to follow me on the water... In the matter of ten minutes, he had identified most of my long lasting flaws ... unbelievable ! Ten minutes ! That's all it took to definitely change my way of sailing and to unlock my improving. This summer, I'm going after jibe exercising and continuing improvement of water-start ... and planning of course, there's always room for improvement. A nice summer to all.

Thanks for this information Eric! Watching this video, I recognize a lot, I experience the same difficulties trying to get into the footstraps. What I wanted to know: how tighten do you prepare the footstraps? Does the foot goes in entirely, half way, or just the toes? My teacher told me to just get in with toes only... (to avoid ankle injuries)

hey dude keep it up - at 1:10 and onwards you are already planning, your back hand can go a little bit further to the back, pull a bit and put your feet in the straps, you are definitely ready for it and it will change your life forever!

Great venue to sail, some good memories. Must go back soon. Next time you're out, take the plunge and slip your front foot into the footstrap & move your back foot a couple inches back. When you pick up a bit of speed slip the back foot in the strap. Then GRIN & shout loud - shout anything loud :-)
