Deluxe, a long-time champion of small business, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015 by creating the Small Business Revolution series, highlighting the small businesses that drive our economy and bring communities together. In the first five seasons, we sought out America’s most inspiring small towns and awarded the winner - and several of its small businesses - a $500,000 revitalization and featured the transformation in an original series.

Each season, Small Business Revolution host and creator Amanda Brinkman is joined by a celebrity co-host, from entrepreneur Robert Herjavec and renovation icon Ty Pennington, to our new season six co-host - former NBA all-star and entrepreneur, Baron Davis. In this season launching Fall of 2021, the team will work alongside six Black-Owned businesses from Minneapolis and St. Paul to overcome their biggest financial, marketing, and technology obstacles.

My grandfather owned that building when it was a hardware store, and I spent my childhood living in the apartment upsairs. Nothing but tears knowing it lives on 50 years later.

As a 5th generation of the Greater Alton Metroplex (1848 N. Alton), I was glad to finally get a chance to watch this video. I was glad that it didn't enter around Fast Eddie's & that boat. It did bother me that they lumped Hunterstown & Middletown as "central", and had that racist, veteran-hating woman on there laughing and talking with her husband.

I was studying at the Northeast University of Louisiana (now known as University of Louisiana at Monroe, ULM) when I met Hiroshi's father, Bob Allen. He was the Karate instructor at the university. One particular class where he taught the students how to choke and put people to sleep. The student I got paired up with couldn't choke me out so Sensei Allen decided to use me to demonstrate the techniques, but he couldn't choke me out either. I'm a tiny 5'5" guy but in one particular class while sparring with another student over 6ft and twice my size and weight, I punched him in the liver and sent him flying a few feet in the air and he landed with a loud "thump" on the gymnasium floor. Everyone stopped and there was a moment of dead silence. That was probably during 95-97. He had it coming because he and his buddies were always talking crap in the dressing room. He thought I kicked him because he didn't think a tiny guy can send him flying with a punch. I guess he blinked. I guess I left a good impression with Sensei Allen. One particular class I remembered he had use paired up with each other, but he told me to stay where I was then after everyone had a partner, he told me he and I will spar. I remembered he grabbed my gi a few times and made multiple attempts to sweep me, but he couldn't. I blocked most of his kicks, but I remembered one particular kick his toenail caught the back of my ear and cut it. (Thanks for going easy on me Sensei.) He later invited me to his Karate studio in town and offered me a scholarship to join the university's Karate team where Hiroshi, I believe, was the team's captain. I never met Hiroshi, but I heard at the time, he was notorious for his foot sweeps. Hiroshi dated and later married my cousin (Mary - Phuong Anh). I would have taken up Sensei Allen's offer at the time, but I thought I didn't think I could travel out of the country to compete as I did not have my US citizenship at the time.

What an amazing and inspirational story! I grew up only a block from the MSR office. I remember when my parents received the MSR newspaper weekly and when I grew up, I always looked forward to reading the paper. I now view it online since I live in Ohio now. I am so proud to know my community is being represented by MSR ! Congratulations Ms Tracey and thank you for keeping the legacy of MSR alive!

Shame that this just feels like a political statement when it's so visually pleasing and has a lot of potential to be more than just propaganda. The opening itself is a lie, America is absolutely not one of the best countries for starting a small business and no amount of pride in your nation's history is going to fix that

Omg! This makes me cry😭😭 You guys are amazing. Thank you for doing this to this family. I feel like God leads me to this video to get inspiration. I'm about to open a Filipino restaurant in January in Cookeville Tennessee. I started a foodtruck this year in February and it will be a big step I'm going to jump on.

I'm from Searcy and will never "evolve" from my God-given conservative roots...Typical liberal filth trying to "educate" those of us who love our God, guns, and family values. Small Biz Revolution was a Large Mistake for Searcy!!

Filipino food is kind of controversial among some within food circles, but it can definitely have a place here in America. I’m kind of biased as a Filipino American but when you get good home cooked Filipino meals, it is up there with the best. I’m not saying it is with the tier of Chinese, Thai, or Japanese, but I feel more family style restaurants can be better in America. I think it comes down to getting quality cooks from the Philippines to be willing to open up businesses in America. Eating at restaurants in the Philippines, the quality is really good.
