Personally my extreme limit would be 10 if I knew they had been stored well. But I haven’t seen any info on people eating mres that old im not counting it out. Past ten years freeze dried would be my choice except for Mylar stored grains and white rice

I have an original rayo driving lamp patent date 1912 it has a clear magnifying lens on the front and a red lens on the back the perforations on the reflector to light the rear lens noticeably and it projects a very clean circle of light out the front perfect for a horse-drawn buggy

Yes this is a remake i don’t feel it’s as heavy duty as old originals. Light is acceptable and burns efficiently. I use one in my shed all winter actually 2 for light if i work late. As a heater for soup and such its pretty lame but better than nothing if you can’t get a fire to make coffee.

$200 lens covers? Now we're in Eotech territory, I would like to have a Leupold but for a tad more I can get into Aimpoint/ Trijicon or Eotech 512, I would find aftermarket lens covers, butler creek, monstrum make good ones, though the front lens on the Leupold is 32mm?? I believe, may be a bit harder to find bur not impossible. I'm still on the fence 🤔

There are a dozen of companies making these. The company’s that sell to us military are definitely best it takes some background research on them. I just got some some cheaper then first and they were excellent and only a year old. Not cheapest but far from most expensive o order 10 every 3rd month as a rule as they get past use date I take them to lunch for work.

I agree it depends on whos canning I don’t mind fussing with American , girlfriend only uses presto electric it makes all the guesswork gone. I tell people if you really ding Americans lip bad it wont seal. I use American for big jobs 14 quarts makes it faster i use a camp chief propane outside

20 min to heat an inch of water in that little pot. Kinda silly. I have noticed that the size of the lamp isnt as important as the size wick. 3/8” wick means decorative lamp. 1/2” not much better. 7/8” and your getting about 12 candle power that is significant light. Wick size not mentioned here.

I just use it as a lantern now its not practical at all for heating up any food 100 other stoves do better. As a lantern it’s working great
@stillwater62
@stillwater62 11 месяцев назад
If it is NOT capable of boiling water, it is almost worthless in a survival, or camping situation except for the light it gives off. All of that extra trim and weight is useless. Certainly not worth that price. A Dietz #80 "Blizzard" Hurricane lantern is the way to go for light and a Coleman 533 Dual Fuel single burner stove for boiling water and cooking, would be a good combination. For real powerful lighting, go with the Coleman #639C kerosene lantern, Northstar, or #295-700 double mantle Dual fuel lantern. Those three put out tremendous light.

100% wool is best and it will ve better if you add lanolin oil in it. It smells a bit but it makes your wool blanket water resistant.
@williamfagerheim1817
@williamfagerheim1817 Год назад
@@everydaysurvival157 lanolin oil is a natural component in wool. The sheep has it naturally and it does not hurt to use on wool plaid or other wool items either. Note that when you wash the wool you do remove the lanolin oil too.
@williamfagerheim1817
@williamfagerheim1817 Год назад
@@everydaysurvival157 but og course with depend on what you are going to use your wool items for. It is smart when you are using your wool plaid and clothing out in the field. At home or might be a little to much due to the smell.
@pennsyltuckyreb9800
@pennsyltuckyreb9800 7 месяцев назад
@everydaysurvival157 I machine wash all my wool. Cold. Gentle/delicate cycle. Kookaburra Wash which restores the lanolin oils and softens and freshens up the wool fibers without damaging them. Also adds Tea Tree oil which smells great to me (some folks don't like the scent) and is a natural repellent to insects, particularly moths, wool's mortal enemy. Then I let hang and air dry after the wash. No dryer..... although some blankets are safe to machine dry like Faribault Woolen Mills blankets. For the blankets with long nap, like the antique Hudson Bay's, right after the wash, I'll lay the blanket flat on the floor and use a fine pet wire brush upside down to gently brush the nap out both sides and fluff it up. Smells, looks, and feels great after that.

@@williamfagerheim1817 Kookaburra Wash preserves/restores the lanolin oils in a machine wash.... just in case you ever wanted to check that out 👍. Obviously, hang/air dry after, not machine dry.
