MW Garage is brought to you by Forgeline Motorsports and follows some of the things we get up to in the workshop. Cooper RSR is a project MotorWerks Magazine created in 2012 to build and compete with a 2006 MINI Cooper S. Project 3ThirtyFive is our 2009 BMW 335i that faithfully gets us to the track to cover events for the magazine and in 2022 got pressed into action running in the PADA Autoslalom series powered by Hagerty.
I'm glad that theres someone talking about different metals used for roll cage building. Another metal that I've read about being an alternative to Chromoly & Docol r8 is 15CDV6. Do you have any knowledge on that kind of steel?
No I don't, but as far as I am aware the North American sanctioning bodies only allow mild steel, 4130 or Docal. I know Docal is not allowed in the UK as it is seamed tubing. They use T45 I believe.
Now after watching fellow Canadian @fitzeesfabrications update on his offshore built bead roller, we are going to revamp ours so subscribe to the channel and watch for updates!
Hi Mike, the status is not great. Other health issues basically put paid to to much to getting too much done. The big thing just now is getting the shop cleaned up to give me some room to work. THEN we are going to have at it as I am feeling so much better this year.
I'm not an expert in this but I would think you leave the spring rate the same. There are many other things to consider when lowering the car 2". Is it FWD? If so what is it going to to the driveshaft angle? Is the lower ride height going to cause issues on track or going into driveways? Are you lowering all round? If front only what is the effect of the rake that the car now has?
I think lower springs/reduced suspension travel will require stiffer spring to avoid bottoming out, or destroy shocks. 7 to 5 inch 7/5=1,4 the longest spring is 40% longer, 40% stiffer spring 8*1,4= 11,2k
