Honestly, no real reason, I’m very impatient when it comes to gluing fabric and it’s a personal choice to prefer to sew but at such a small scale it is very rough to get it to look good. As I’ve experimented with different glues and techniques I’m getting more comfortable with gluing for the 1/24 scale kits just because the items are so small, patience is just a virtue I sometimes lack, but I’m getting there
Unfortunately I thought I included that process in my video but even in checking the footage I didn’t manage to record it. All I remember is a ton of glue and heartache. The fabric that came with it frayed really easily so I covered it in a thin layer of glue and let it dry before I cut it. If you glue the brim pieces flat onto the pattern paper then fold and glue the fabric over the edges once that glue has dried it makes it a bit easier. I discovered all of that after much frustration and gluing everything to my hands a couple times🤦🏻♀️ Hopefully that helps, I’m thinking about making a video demonstrating some of the more fussy things like that because many times something has proven difficult so I did it off camera without giving a thought to how useful that info might be to someone else.
Hi! I did this kit a while ago. I love it. But I had a part come loose and so I used your video to figure out where it went😂. Anyway, what’s the purple and yellow glue you use?? And what’s the difference between the two. Thanks!!
Glad I could help😃 the yellow glue is Titebind wood glue, and the purple glue is just Elmer’s school glue. Recently I’ve pretty much completely switched over to using Bearly Art precision craft glue and Aleene’s Tacky Glue, the Bearly Art works well with the needle applicator tips and Aleene’s grabs really quick if used sparingly enough. Regardless of what glue you use, the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is less is more😅
I’ve found if you use it very sparingly it will usually flatten back out, but yeah, usually the paper will warp, for projects I want to completely avoid warping on I use double sided tape on the bigger parts like floors and walls. Smaller items tend to not warp as much or be as obvious.
cool video, i just subscribed. would have been good to have seen some re-enactment of the process of how you put the transparency on top of the paper--whether you attached it somehow or not, etc.
I’ll keep that in mind for the next time I get a chance to capture this process. I have a piece of glass from an old shelf that I use to hold things in place usually for cyanotype printing, it weighs things down nicely but is a little thick so it sometimes causes some ghosting on the image. Thin plexiglass or glass works fine, or just a little masking tape on the very edges that can or will be trimmed away works fine in a pinch.
Cuteroom sells one on Amazon available in the UK that is kinda similar, it’s called Caravan I believe, I unfortunately couldn’t find the exact one I have though.
I love having things that represent fallout more than I just want 1 to 1's of everything so this is such a cool idea to me. What a unique fun diorama. Super cool!
Thank you for your comment! I’m very much a visual learner as well. As far as the piece I placed in the stairwell, I’m not 100% sure what it is intended for or called, but it serves as a spacer for me to fit the stairs that I’m using, when measuring for the possibility of a different set of stairs it would have required a different size piece here to get them to be level and fit properly between the floors. I’m sure there are more well-rounded dollhouse builders out there with a better answer, but that was my personal experience… hope this helps❤️
It’s just two pieces, hard to describe without a picture, but they’re brass colored, the fatter cap-looking piece gets glued to the smaller metal piece that is flared at one end. An easy way to glue two pieces that don’t stand up on their own like that is to place the two pieces on some sticky tack until the glue has a chance to dry, they don’t stand up on their own either so I glued them down to the table, but museum wax is good for placing stuff like that because it isn’t permanent.
It’s a great beginner kit, right now I’m working on a Rolife kit, the Wooden Hut. Most of these kits have some directions that just aren’t clear, but after putting a couple of them together you start to get the hang of it. I cut out a lot of the parts where I’ve managed to glue my fingers together or cut something wrong, but we all do it! This is like therapy to me, if I’m able to assemble these tedious things and make them look even remotely like the box photo I feel like I can take on the world😆
I'm wokring on this build right now and OMG, the chair! I was about ready to throw it in the trash LOL So far, the umbrella stand and the tie have given me the most trouble.
Yes!! I struggled so much with the chair too, probably the roughest part of the hold build for me. After much struggling the only thing I found that helped was using the tiniest amount of glue and having way more patience than I thought I was capable of.
Hey I was working on this set and I was wondering where you fed the wires for the light in the kitchen ceiling? I figured out the rest of the lights but the instructions on that one were pretty unclear. Thanks so much!!
Sorry for the late response, holidays are nuts at my house. From looking at it, the wires run through from the back top right corner of the dining room before the plexiglass gets installed. I hope that makes sense and helps…?
I just got back from Hobby Lobby I got this exact RV kit I can’t wait to get it together. I just finished the pink paradise kit! I also bought the honeymoon suite kit! I love watching these while I put it together! Nice to have a reference while doing it!
Wonderful! These kits are amazing to put together, I am trying to get better at recording individual steps, especially the trickier parts. I too watch videos of people making these while I work, it adds something kinda neat to the experience.
@@DisruptivegirlIt does add it makes it feel like you’re putting it together with a friend! I finished this this one except the lights I didn’t do yet. I like to have my boyfriend strip the wires and put the light kit together that is the hardest part for me. On this one the umbrella I struggled with, first I cut what was suppose to be the rug into triangles for the umbrella 🤦♀️ I love the little cabinet, coffee grinder, hot water and milk it’s so cute! I’m working on the Mayberry street honey moon suite now just finishing the decorations then have to wire. The honeymoon suite is so modern and pretty but the directions are so vague and limited it’s been the hardest one I’ve done!
I’ve just bought this miniature dollhouse camper. I’m glad I have found your channel. You’re very soothing to listen to. I do have a question about a tool you are using. The silver pick you use for the light and wheel. Do I need this? Where did you get it? Thanks and keep doing these videos.
Thank you, sadly I get a little side tracked and all over the place sometimes, but I do plan on doing more miniature build content in the near future. The silver pick I think you’re referring to is an awl from a sewing kit I picked up awhile ago on Amazon, they’re really useful, but there are plenty of options that work just as well from a dental pick, to a straight pin or paper clip, depending on what you’re doing. They’re really affordable, and can be easily picked up just about anywhere that sells sewing notions or leather working tools, as well. Many thanks to you for your kind comment, and happy crafting!
I want to tell you I love watching you put the kits together. I love how you talk in the background and I think you show the best way to put kits together. 10:10 10:10
I love the look of this kit! Would you recommend it to a brand new wooden model builder? And would you still recommend Alcohol glue for it/can you build it with no glue?
I would consider this maybe a mid-level build, and yes it does require glue but I would say the type of glue is more personal preference than anything.
I just bought this kit, and it came in yesterday I'm going to be starting it today, this is my my second miniature project, I'm a newbie lol, thank you for this video;)
Thank you for the kind comment, I love building these kits, though sometimes painfully frustrating, there’s still a zen aspect to building miniatures that just has me hooked!
I have four standards I use, Elmer’s white glue, UHU glue, Bob Smith super glue (the gap filler one plus activator) and wood glue all depending on what I’m gluing. That said, this kit came with a tube of white glue, and some alcohol based glue similar to UHU. The most important part I can say is be careful to not use too much, and be patient or use some painter’s tape and/or clips to hold things together while they dry. Also, dry fit things before gluing so you can get the positioning right on the first try with glue because repositioning wet glue will cause a weaker bond. Besides all of that, I will say this kit was one of my favorites to put together, let me know how it goes and if you share your process or finished product please drop me a link!
Oh no! Yeah, it is rather confusing, the instructions are rarely very clear on these kits. I find the best approach is to go through and make sure everything is there, then dry fit everything, it also helps to thumb through the full instruction book to get an idea overall of how things go together, some steps have to be done in order, others not so much. Check things off as you go and compartmentalize each little section. Use the minimum amount of glue so things grab quicker and clean up is easier, and don’t forget to bring tons of patience! If there’s specific parts you’re really struggling with let me know and I’ll make a video going over them in more detail.
Hello! I just found you and really enjoyed your project!! If your new to 1/12th scale, catch a few of the Bentley House minis! She's awsome! Works from kits and scratch as well as using everyday items you have on hand! Can't wait for the next video!!
Not looking too good, unfortunately. Took Scott in for a biopsy this morning and they kept him, I swear it will be a miracle if he makes it to 40. He made it through cancer like a champ the first time despite a pandemic, but things are looking a little more bleak this time. Still not giving up though, he’s stubborn and that will hopefully work to his advantage with this.
I feel ya, been so hard to find motivation with all the stress of just life in general. I’m at the point of either getting back to crafting or unloading the boarder line hoarder situation my craft stash has become.
