Low tide after a coastal storm or king tide is when the local lapidary clubs have learnt to go target redcliffe beach for agate. You have to go early early morning if you want to beat the lapidary clubs after a storm, but it seems to be the best time to go. Tne storm swells seem to dislodge more agates from the reef and push already loose specimens to shore. A friend of mine has found some massive ones larger than cricketballs but he found them around the reefs while spearfishing, the largest ones never seem to make it to shore. The silt in the bay in recent years is making it alot harder to find the agates now
Thanks for this video. I found a 30ct gemstone out at Mt Surprise years ago, never completely knew if it was Quartz or Topaz. This video helped, as it has striations running down the sides, not across!
Thanks so much for this video, it has really helped me in my fossicking efforts at Redcliffe. Does it take longer to tumble them to remove the outer layer? Thanks in advance for your reply 😊
Any chance you could recommend somewhere to go for sapphires or blue topaz or diamond around south east qld where you can get a 4x4 close to where you would be working? I use a walker or when it's bad a wheelchair.
I have Topaz. A little. Clear and bigguer and perfet. Thanks You for this video.. i don't know that i have Topaz.. but now i know.. i have one kg of Topaz.. forget me i don't speak inglis.
i normally pan for gold but i love gems went to creek way out bush the section i panned was quite sandy but i was getting big spinel. Think i need to get some sieves and go back out there i know people in the 90's found diamond there. Is there a certain type of rock that shapphires form in ?
I wish Torrington was still like that it’s dead now u don’t see anyone out in the bush u would be Lucky to get to some spots it’s over grown and trees down everywhere and it’s illegal to fossick out there now and it’s just turned to shit since National park owns it now when State Forest use to own it u could do any thing u wanted and they looked after the place it’s so bad now I got out the a week ago and had a dig and look around got some nice Topaz and smokies and a few Emeralds didn’t see one person out there we had to make our own track most of the time because of the growth and trees
uppercuts self....i used to was along there every morning for months and never thought to look for them!!! well there you go, you just never know what treasures are in your own backyard!!!!
I really liked this video and it has made total sense for my deciding if it's topaz or quartz.. I wonder if there's size limit you should expect to find topaz in because my piece is about "centre of the palm size", 5cm x 3cm x1.5cm. It is bigger than the ones in your video and the raw topaz I've seen online. Would this rule it out? My stone is golden ish 'stained' on the outside but totally clear, water-clear inside, with some internal faces you can see running through it. I've ruled out calcite because the angles and things are much more fluoritey. Anyway thanks for any thoughts!
