Hi Caitlin, Thanks for you video! Have just started applying for a bunch of jobs through the whistler site as they have only just opened up recently. I was just wondering how long after you applied were you getting contacted for interviews/when were you officially offered a job? I understand that the housing process is a bit slower but were you having interviews/offers around the August mark or later? Thanks!
Hey! That’s awesome that you’re coming to Whistler! I just did a little search and saw that I had my interview August 12 and was offered the job on the same day :) so yes expect August for things to happen for WB jobs! After that point the information will come more slowly. All the best!
No you should be okay! There are plenty of jobs in town for winter, but the hardest part is just getting housing. So if you’re late to that it can be harder but not impossible! Good luck.
Hey! Great question! My brain kind of thinks of them as one thing now! I would say for your savings and for everything you buy while still at home (insurance, visa) in AUD and then everything I mentioned in Canada as CAD :)
hey im an aussie whos looking to work in whistler, I have an interview for fairmont, does anyone have anyrecomendations of other places I should apply as I'm trying to avoid food and bev but have no ski experience, so sales, retail cleaning is more what I'm looking for
Hey! That's awesome that you're coming to Whistler! I definitely would recommend trying some of the retail jobs for for the mountain would be ideal for you. Go to the Vail Resorts Whistler Jobs page and the Winter Seasonal jobs should come live soon! And don't stress about your ski experience, it's not a requirement :)
Thank you so much! An amazing vid! I’m from the UK but currently in Aus and desperately want to do a ski season in whistler 😊 Are you able to apply for multiple roles as I’m not really fussed what I do, just want to experience mountain life and snowboard the season away
Yes of course! Just apply for a bunch, that’s what I did. Don’t bother applying for manager positions though unless you have experience. But if you’re leaning towards a certain department definitely push for it :)
Correct! It was with the SWAP program with is a Recognised Organisation and its just the same visa again and IEC visa! It was organised through work for me to even be offered though, so I don’t know all the details… but there’s definitely options out there!
I just did my interview for whistler and keeping everything crossed that I’ll be out there for winter. Ideally would really be great to be in brio so it’s nice to see people’s opinions on it! 🤍
Yes they do! They always joke about how they dont need to visit Australia because they already met so many of us here 😂 but its great, I feel like aussies and Canadians get along so well because we grew up in such opposite places that it makes each other interesting!
Hey! I had my job offer before I left which was awesome, including my housing! I believe Winter jobs will come online around July or August :) so keep an eye out! Good luck! :)
thank you! do yk if most “with the mountain” jobs/departments offer free ski season passes if you’re working full time for a full winter season? or is that just for snow makers, patrol and liftes?
Indeed we do! Full time and Part time staff get a free pass if you work for Whistler Blackcomb :) there are also a lot of other great benefits too like free lessons, discounted food, discounted retail. Other businesses do offer some sort of ski passes I believe, but I don’t have much knowledge about that side :)
@@caitlinjanet_ if you don't mind me asking how much did you save? and do you recommend trying to go with someone, like your boyfriend? i'm also from aus i was thinking of going this christmas but probs will be the 25/26 season, so if i need to save i'd def start thinking about that now
Watch my updated “how to get a job” video for a more in depth explanation of Whistler jobs and housing :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-scfpfqoHrBQ.html
I must ask, how do you get on the job board for vail ??? I'm wanting to go this winter season, when's a good time to start looking ? Also how do you go about applying for jobs that aren't with vail? loving all your videos btw!!!!!
Hi!! We realise the job openings around July I believe! You’ll know when it happens, there will be a lot of job postings for winter seasonal work. Make sure you’re always looking! For other jobs I would recommend emailing the businesses directly and sending your resume like that :) make sure you mention staff housing if you’re looking for housing! Good luck!
Can I ask what your job is? Is your pay just your wage or does it include tips? And what is staff accom like - do you have roommates or your own room, etc? I’m wanting to do a working holiday in Canada so trying to get as much info as possible hehe thank you
Hey! Ofcourse.. I’m very lucky to be a head chef for the mountain, so I am on salary and also get tips! That’s why I highly recommend working in F&B as there is definitely opportunity for earning more than minimum wage! We are very very lucky to receive tips from our guests :) Generally most of staff housing you’ll have one roommate and live in a unit with 4 people total. Definitely keep watching my popular videos it’ll give you a lot of info on moving to Whistler/a ski town! Especially my “pros and cons” of working for the mountain video, it gives a lot of info on job roles and housing :)
Things sure have changed over there. I had my own private room and shared a west side Unit with one other in the 12/13 season. Left town six years ago due to lack to secure and sustainable housing
Hi , I received a letter with this Your application to work in Canada has been initially approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. The final decision to issue you a work permit and allow you to enter Canada. Which letter is this?
Congratulations! That is your POE - Port of Entry. This is your very important letter that will be key in your immigration to Canada! Go watch my arrival experience video to see what happens next :)
you do not need a job offer to get your visa, but when we arrived in Canada we did have our jobs already organised so we printed ours just in case we were asked at immigration what our plans were for work :)
@@caitlinjanet_ thanks- last thing, my passport expires next year, so requesting a new one. Do you know if a photocopy of the old one is sufficient, as biometrics is linked to that! Thanks
There are definitely jobs but not many owned by the resort. There are lots of restaurants and bars in town owned by other businesses and most have staff housing, but just limited numbers :)
hello lovely people! if you're looking to apply for the winter 24/25 season in whistler with the mountain, feel free to use me as a referral! ID: 374528

Hey Caitlin - thanks for the videos they are great for getting a taste of life in Whistler for those considering doing a season! I was wondering if you have any idea if / when Whistler Blackcomb start hiring for the summer season?
Hey! Thanks for watching! Summer season hiring has already taken place, but there will probably still be more jobs available as the summer goes on. Winter season hiring starts around July :)
Hi, from the UK. I know you made this video a while ago but hopefully someone will see this and respond. I applied for an IEC visa and was approved last year in September and have had to change my plans and go 24/5 season instead, Ideally going to whistler. i was wondering how you applied for the jobs was it just on the companies websites or is there a website with multiple job listing for seasonal work? As i want to try and plan everything as soon as possible. Also was there a website that compared different insurances?
Hey! Yes for jobs through the mountain just apply via their website I think it’s vail resorts jobs. They will become available around July I believe! And for other options I would suggest Facebook whistler jobs, indeed, etc. The biggest thing is just keeping an eye out, reaching out to businesses directly and having your resume ready! For insurance: unsure, but if you Google IEC emergency insurance all the companies will come up, there’s only really a few to choose from. Also!! If you got approved for your visa in September that means you have to activate it within a year or it expires. If you’re not ready to move by that point you could just come for a holiday in summer and activate it and then return home and wait for winter.
Hey! I plan to go to Canada in a couple of months, specifically to Alberta. Is it too risky to go without a job offer? I have the Work Permit but I'm not too sure if it would be too risky to go there without a job
That’s so exciting - congrats on getting your work permit! I think take the risk! The biggest thing is just making sure you have a good amount of savings to see you through organising short term housing till you find something more permanent and then being able to survive without a wage for awhile if need be.
@@caitlinjanet_ Thank you so much! Yep, my plan is to stay in a hostel while trying to find a job in Banff or somewhere in the Rocky Mountains to see if I can find a job with accommodation, fingers crossed! Btw congratulations for your whole journey in Canada, moving elsewhere can be pretty hard but it seems that it was orth it, wish you all the best, and thanks again for the advice :)
Jobs should get announced around June or July! Keep your eyes peeled. In the mean time make sure you focus on getting your visa sorted and saving money! Those things will be more important to the success of your move abroad!
