Wow! That was an incredible video. Man, you can see the tornado surprisingly well. If it was day time that would've been a super photogenetic tornado. This was pure gold and I am super happy you captured this incredible tornado!
I experienced this tornado as well, and would like to thank you for such a thoughtful video. I’ve been obsessively watching anything I can find from that day, and was surprised to see you uploaded this 2 years ago. Wishing you luck in your career and future 👌
Looks like a cool build. However if I did this, I would've used Police Interceptor Utility as the base vehicle. Column shifter so its out of the way of things, center console delete, you can put your equipment there. It's more basic in the inside along with heavy duty cloth seats. Personally I wouldn't rock a regular Explorer. Police Interceptor Utility also has a better tune than the Explorer does. Also has a function called "Police Pursuit Mode", could be useful to you. It'll keep the engine at high RPMs to give you rapid acceleration. This is an automatic driving enhancement, no input needed by the driver, it activates when you start driving the car hard (hard braking, harsh turns, rapid acceleration). It also has a beefed up suspension system and it can handle more aggressive maneuvers that your Explorer probably can't do. It also has bigger brakes. The vehicle also has a rated 75 MPH rear impact protection. Other things is it has a third row delete as well, giving you more space and a full size spare tire.
Thanks for the comment! This vehicle started out as a regular XLT Explorer. I chose to turn it into the ultimate storm-chasing vehicle, while also having something comfortable, looked nice, was low on miles, and hadn't been abused. This vehicle fits all of those categories! Even though I have purchased a newer vehicle since, I still use it for offroading, outdoor adventures, and storm chasing nowadays. When I purchased the vehicle in 2020, it had less than 130k miles. Now It has 300k miles and is going strong with the original engine and transmission.
@@SconnieKayaker sounds awesome! How many water pumps are you on if you have the V6 engine? I've got the 3.7L engine in my Police Interceptor, regular Explorers don't get them, they're slightly faster than the 3.5L
I lived in Racine at the time and a buddy of mine, who lived 2 blocks East from me, had some debris in his backyard after this storm started to move over Lake Michigan. This debris was from a mechanic shop in stoughton. Just look at a map to get an idea of how far Racine is from Stoughton…it’s absolutely mind boggling!
Thank You, I have been searching for a video like this. You are the only video I have found and gave great detail about the outbreak and the 2005 tornado.
Congrats on finally achieving your goal Mike. You created a really nice video of your adventure! Looking forward to more adventures of you ;) Happy trails, Mario
I live two counties over in Delafield and debris from this tornado fell from the sky all the way over here. Enough paper and small pieces of wood to cover half of my yard. I know it was from this tornado because there were many papers such as birth certificates listing Stoughton. Absolutely insane
Beautiful! You might recognize me from Facebook! I’m Brodie Love, found a storm chasing video from 4/23/21 on here and I was like “that thumbnail is Mike’s picture” lol
