I dont think you need to do anything more than boil water while on a hike or camp. A simple meth burner is good enough for that. There are many uses in cooking for boiled water.

Lots of rocks, beautiful stream, but the rain make it slippery and takes longer to get shelter, it was great to get to rest after long trip, mosquito coil is great invention, thank you for sharing your trip and good food

Between the 6 minute and 7 minute mark when your checking the heat of your frying pan, you'll feel the heat better with the back of your hand than the palm. Besides, if you burn the palm of your hand, you won't be able to use your hand.
