In the late 70’s I had to hitch hike out of Prince George no buses my friend just got a new job so I was on my own going back to Alberta.,and wow! First ride tells me about Clifford Olson being out there and my appearance is what he was looking for? Then this guy drops me off on a really isolated secondary road outside of mile 1 hundred and one house. Out of a forest trunk road comes a dark blue ford half ton with a camper. He gets out of he car in bare feet and no shirt just jeans. He was at Caucasian least 6,2” dark hair brown eyes glasses wire rim. He took me to a ghost town down the road. I just lost it so I guess he decided because I didn’t want to be there. To me it was the perfect place to be missing. Long story short I was a white teen 17 yrs old. When he stopped to get gas that I told him I had to go pee went into the bar told a man to help me he say from him. Two men approach him from bar told him that I was a relative. Still in danger I had to stay in West Bank withE if these strange men as he said his brother a trucker would take me to Calgary. Let me tell you this was not without incident. Yah I lived. Today I am almost sure the first man in blue truck was an American serial killer who’s dead now. Still I lost my friend that summer as she took was hitchhiking with her dog. Out of three of us only two made it back alive that summer. Today is is an aberration that it is purposely done so there is no bus service it’s happening in Alberta too! No buses.

With the insane amount of money the government pours into these shitholes you would think that each reserve could buy a 15 passenger van and hire one or two members of the community to be drivers to make a daily roundtrip to one of the more major centers. This would keep everyone safe and also provide gainful employment for a few community members. But no, they will let the Chiefs line their pockets and let the people keep being at risk. Really simple solution here. Either let the government govern the reserves and life will improve or keep governing yourself and shut the fuck up about why the government hasn't saved you from every little thing.

I personally knew the some of the first women or girls rather to go missing on the highway of tears in fact they were some of the ones to get it named the highway of tears and the rcmp really did fail them they were Leah Germaine and Roxanne Thiara they were killed around the same time Leah and I litterally ate dinner togeather at a dinner the rcmp threw and served at the native friendship centre in PG I just happened to run into the guy I saw her Leah that is leave with that night and she was killed literally hours later I ran into him in Edmonton and I tried contacting EPana and they sent me a letter literally saying they dont deal with the murder cases well then what the fuck did they get all that money for the rcmpor the city cops in Edmonton wouldnt touch it because it happened in another provinse and phg rcmp wouldnt help for the same reason i even tried the detectives in Vancouver and nothing so yes the rcmp absolutly failed them abandoned them it was the biggest farce I have ever seen it was bs it was sad...

It seems to me that forensic genealogy should be able to find the killer (s) of these women. Why hasn't the RCMP employed everything at their disposal? These murders can be solved! My heart goes out to all Native First Nation People. My cousin was raped and murdered by a Catholic priest in 1960 in Texas. It took 52 years to bring him to justice. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kFLbrh_s-XA.htmlsi=bR-nsLQHvrQHVj6S

There are a minimum of 50 active Serial killers at any given time driving the highways of North America. Most are long haul truckers. They are able to work and hide in plain sight. I just read a book about this.. The book is called Long Haul by Frank Figliuzzi 😮😮😮

lived in Terrace in the early 70 actual Thornhill which is just across the bridge the highway of tears runs there. I remember when Monica went missing the RCMP came to our place because my boyfriend worked at the mill in Terrace and would have been coming back to Thornhill at the end of his shift the day Monica disappeared, they got a list of all people that lived in the area and paid them a visit. Monica had gone missing before I moved there In Jan 75 she went missing in Dec 74.. In March or April I was was walking along the highway of tears a service road that ran parallel to it someone whistled at me from the forest next to it I looked over and there was a man masturbating I had just moved from Montreal a few months before and was use to this type of stuff but in this peaceful isolated area it sent a chill up my spine. The highway of tears was next to me all the truckers were going by so I was not in danger I quickly turned back to where we lived just off the highway. When the RCMP officer came to our place I told him about it. Monica s body was found around the area a few months later. I remember the man so well and described him to the RCMP officer. The chill I got was so real and remember being so afraid for months after This was before we knew about the highway I lived there for 4 years worked at the hot springs and Skeena view Lodge our only form of transportation if you did not have a car was to hitch-hike . I meet so many amazing Indigenous people there. In the film at 30.23 where you see the man walking on the road next to the highway that s exactly what I was doing. To this day I still remember this mans hair and face his look was so evil.

Stop blaming your bad actions and life choices on your upbringing. There have been plenty of people throughout time who have had rough upbringings and still became average citizens. Intergenerational trauma is an excuse to do dumb things. Take responsibility for yourself people.

What are you blabbing about ? No1 cares. People will do as they want. Besides what "stupid " things do you speak of. Im sure your just a young ignorant troll. People make bad decisions ...and .. ? So ? What does that have to do with rape, murder, serial killers, and a lack of proper law enforcement, esp w judges who are themselves raping children and or ignoring these communities OR a lack of proper investigation. I dont care what someone does in their life good or bad whether hitchiking or drug use or whatever...the blame STILL is on the murderer, the sick depraved killer...you know people will do "dumb" things. Addiction is addiction taking responsibility or not has nothing to do with a young woman (aboriginal or a white/caucasian) being kidnapped raped tortured or worse as often is the case. Blaming their decisions for their own death is literally victim blaming. Especially when you consider some of the victim were just normal women whom jad a broken down car an needed help...where is the "dumb decision making" in that ? That was just bad timing, bad luck...which we have little control over. Its always best to try an keep yourself save but sometimes OFTENTIMES its not enough. Even if you got rid of prostitution and hitchhiking youd still have rape, kidnappings, law enforcement abusing their powers, corrupt judges, oh and those horrid residential schools...just another way to destroy the indigenous women and children being treated like 2nd class citizens. And even middle class white women fr good homes are (clearly) not immune. Even when you do all the right things an take precautions sometimes its not enough. Enough with the victim blaming. Its 1 thing to say make better choices...which doesnt matter bc ppl will do as they please but its another to outright victim blame...theres 100s of victims over decades and only a % of these children an young women could be considered "at risk". Nothings going to change there will always be addictions, hitchiking, prostitution, but even if we eliminate all those societal ills...well still have unjust law enforcement, truckers w bad intentions, serial killers & rapists & sexual deviants, broken to NO public transportation system, racial, sexist & bigoted worldviews of those whom are in power an also extreme poverty doesnt help those already in dire situation. News alert people make mistakes an regardless predators will be out en force looking to take advantage like vampires. Rich or poor healthy or unhealthy addicted or sober, hitchiking or in a car that breaks down or something either way...i place the blame on the predators, killers, and lackluster racist lazy old fashion law enforcement.

I generally agree, but take into consideration that not even half of these women are like that. Many of the cases are mishandled because of government and tribal jurisdiction being lazy. This is a problem killing innocent people.

In the last 3 years alone, there's been 3 more missing people along the highway of tears. Two adults and a child! It's still going on! I saw another documentary where it showed that there's at least if not More fifteen hundred plus trucker serial killers from the states to b c! There has to be more than that! So I don't doubt that these are truckers that are doing it They have a vast area of forestry that they can hide body In that will never be found!

The RCMP "failed to protect Aboriginal women" because they couldn't care less. The British objective has always been to exterminate Aboriginals in all the countries they took possession of. Remember Tasmania, not a single Aboriginal alive today, look up the story of this island. The sad reality we have to come to term with is that for the Canadian gvt, 1rst Nations are just an inconvenience.... it took 10 years of court battles with the BC gvt for some to regain full control of for example Haida Gwaii. So if their women disappear either to crime, sasquatch or any kind of abduction/abuse, gvt is rubbing its hands, and won't help solve the problem. And remember that the gvt will NEVER ever recognize its failings, never apologise except express insincere regrets when cornered like towards the Japanese or Italian populations.

This is the Canada we’ve always known… a colonial realm. White supremacy, systemic racism, violence, hate, assumed dominancy, etc. The constitution itself is designed to condition settlers to view Indigenous Peoples as insignificant. Today, newly arrived settlers are still not being properly educated to understand Indigenous Peoples. Policies that put Indigenous children in unmarked burials still exist. Media do not report or assist in searching for Indigenous peoples, amber alerts are not available for Indigenous children. RCMP still maintain the status quo of colonial mandates to ‘police Indigenous Peoples… on and on. What’s reconciliation when colonial narratives haven’t changed since arrival? The system didn’t break, it’s designed that way.

I am with you GenXgirl there are many evil narcissistic people that are sex addicts . I believe there are groups of these people that use and abuse using forced drugs that leave victims powerless. I have looked at missing persons and it is rampant across Canada for many years. They prey on the vulnerable but also if you look at all missing persons it is also boys men woman of any age as well. The numbers are more than you could imagine. Is it sex trafficking as well? My heart goes out to the aboriginal f amilies that have lost their loved ones and have never had justice or closure. It is deplorable that anyone degrades or puts such hate against the aboriginal people. These people are as responsible for the harm and deaths that have fallen upon these people. Corrupt leaders that need to be held responsible. Also the media does not report any missing people for many years so how can the public help by knowing the facts and possibly helping with information or connecting dots . The police have not put the time and effort to solve this ongoing tradigy and I am very sorry for that and for your pain. You deserve so much more.

In 2024, Edmonton, Alberta citizens are talking about approx 30 women being found dead in fields and ditches around their city since 2013/2014. The numbers are probably higher, because of the skewed reporting related to crime statistics.

In Prince George 1981 there were three women murdered. One dumped along the highway and another in a wooded lot behind Harwin Elementary. I lived next to those woods, and across from the school a relative lived. They had moved their family to get away from someone who was terrorizing the lower mainland. Clifford Olsen. I was 13 and had gone to an allnight carnival and the girl in the lot had been there too ... I learned from a very early age the world isn't safe for women.

This was an amazing and insightful documentary. It’s a shame that everyone seems to know there is an issue but still no changes have been made. Many women are still in danger and without actual implementations of change, these murders and disappearances will continue to occur. I hope that the Canadian government can make steps to fix this problem.

In this age of social hyperconnectivity, development of cooperative learning networks where children can safely explore and discover themselves-their aptitudes, talents and passions-by leveraging communication and experiential instructive resources while growing up at home may serve to disuade them from choosing to travel in unsafe manner away from their homes in search of these things. But society cannot seem to stop commercially victimizing children by urging them to seek satisfaction in exploitative environments and endeavors which never provide satisfaction for such natural urges of growth and maturation.
