Thank you. You have saved me from importing this into the UK, I've started watching the OVA on youtube, and I thought ican get into this as I like 80s stuff, then I saw the new blu ray quality of one scene and was mesmerised by the quality transfer.
I don't think it has to follow a certain style and structure to be anime or manga. For example, see manga written and drawn by Yuichi Yokoyama. I also don't think anime and manga necessarily needs to be written or drawn by a Japanese person. See Fillipe Smith, he wrote a manga for Kodansha. For me anime or manga is written or drawn primarily for a Japanese audience in, for the most part, the Japanese language. Or at least made for the Japanese audience first even if it is known that the material will eventually be translated or shown to other parts of the world.
I saw this via the Discotek DVD, I wanted to like it but ultimately it's just abit too tacky and the nudity is just crazy. Characters just stay naked throughout the series for seemingly no reason lol. I did upgrade to the Discotek Blu Ray though but when I get to seeing it again I have no idea.
Okay, I have to suggest a format change, for your benefit... A good bit less on-screen face-time (honestly, in the right content, your voice works quite well), and pepper in as much of whatever footage is allowable of the content you're talking about (probably trailers are a good video source), and if you know a fun tidbit about an anime, don't tell people to only look it up themselves, give them a few seconds to guess (perhaps with a visual aide) and then just tell them (be their source of that knowledge)! I don't want to be mean, but this was a very difficult watch (I couldn't finish it completely), please try to work on things, you seem as old or slightly older than myself and have a pretty good knowledge of Japanese culture, please try to utilize it better. I don't want to harp on you, I do see some potential here and would like you to do better and succeed (if that's what you're going for). I don't put much effort into my own RU-vid anymore (for my own reasons), so don't base my status off of that, I'm just throwing out some outside-observer-obvious suggestions to help you if you do care to be a bigger presence on the platform.
Actually, will be putting together a channel to just read this in a month or so. This is a really interesting story to have read and studied. Glad you like my reading of it!!!
I have had this dvd for over a year, and I have yet to watch it. Thanks for the review. I will be watching it soon. I would love to see a Tezuka panel.
Yeah, my apologies on that. Working with old tech. I am putting together a channel devoted to this book in a month or so. If I can't somehow edit the volume up, I'll just redo the segment. Thanks for watching!
Hey Steve I've been out of the anime loop for a while , I needed a break but I'm getting back into the seasonal series do you guys still do the weekly dig with Brent ?
Not right now: we are looking at other ways to do the channel, RU-vid has proven to be really difficult for what we want to do. Also, we need to recharge...we discovered that we had actually burned out and had not realized it. All three of us needed to take a step back for a little while. Sometimes, life requires a lot of attention, so that is what we are doing for ourselves. We still hang out and do things, but the channel is on hiatus for a bit. We're getting there, but we need a little bit of time to get back on our feet. Having said that, you can still go to the Discord site, we are active over there, so please stop on by and say hi!
Found this show after Midnight Diner and Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories. I love the way this man has the inner dialogue, he's all self-conscious and kind of shy/afraid but then the warrior shows up and the contrast and inspiration are so good. It's definitely comfort media, I love how he's married to this pretty woman and they have zero drama and we get to see the sites, sounds, and food of Japan. I personally cannot get enough of this type of media and I know of very little else like it, certainly not here in the states. So glad I found these gems which I will be watching again and again!
