I have always believed that in the movie " Robin Hood" with Errol Flynn, Olivia was at her peak of youthful beauty and even by today's " standards ", I think she was the prettiest woman in the world with a lovely and classy personality to match. Her poise and persona puts her far above any of the current Hollywood menagerie of Harlots !! How I wish I was Flynn, with her on my arm as I played Custer and she his wife Libby......until the Indians dismembered me, of course !!!
One of his best roles was in "Hannibal Brooks" alongside Oliver Reed. He played a US soldier, turned partisan, Guerrilla fighter. This role allowed Pollard to unite all his acting talents in the one character. Cooky, brave and funny with a hint of a psychopath. Great part played well.
He could play dumb. He could play loveable. He could play crazy, and all with the same facial movements. Just depending what character her was portraying. He is one of the many actors I grew up seeing in everything, then suddenly not seeing anymore. Some people retire, some die. I barely ever learn which it is until I see videos like this. All I know is I don't see them anymore. He will be missed. He was another actor that is always recognized and enjoyed when I saw him.
He was in 'Scrooged' and I believe 'The Russians Are Coming'! If there was a remake of Kolchak the night stalker, I believe there could have been a role for him as a reluctant vampire turned monster hunter!!
Like Dick Miller, Sid Haig, and Elisha Cook Jr. Pollard was one of those actors who's face was known to EVERYONE, and who's name was known to NO ONE, even though they seemed to be in EVERYTHING. Playing a multitude of diverse roles, but always in the background. The CHARACTER ACTORS. The Black Velvet Background over which the jewels of the leading men and women sparkled. They made the great shine JUST a little bit more.
I'm 74 and always thought he was the most realistic of quircky characters. His part in Dick Tracy was small but totally loveable. Thank you, Michael for being so good at what you did.
He was also the airport mechanic with the runny nose in The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming. Maybe five to ten minutes sharing the screen with Brian Keith, Jonathan Winters and more. He stole the whole scene!
I've seen a few of her movies, of course, the first movie being "Lolita". I found her fascinating in everything she appeared in. And she's from my home state of Iowa. Nice triubute. Here's to Sue Lyon!
I always liked his work, he seemed to choose quirky characters..or maybe he made them quirky to make them more memorable. And you wouldn't say it but I will. He most likely changed his name from Pollack to Pollard to avoid being constantly called a common racial slur against Polish people that was very prevalent at the time.
@@PortraitsofHistory I appreciate the subtle , classy way you tried to relay that point, but some younger viewers may not have gotten it so I commented.
