Is there any different in the educational systems between military and civilian med school? And when you complete the military med school and offer the four years service, can you switch to a civilian doctor without having anything again to do with the military?
Great info! The big downside, though, is the pay as an attending. It is ABYSMAL compared to what you’d make as a civilian doctor. Even family medicine doctors make around 30% less, more than 50% less for higher paying specialties. There are literal peer-reviewed studies on this, look them up! I did the math when I started getting recruiter emails. Even accounting for the signup bonus, school stipends, higher residency pay, saved capital and interests on student debt, free health care, tax incentives, etc., you still come short around $200K-600K after your four years of commitment. The losses just compound from there if you decide to stay. Definitely only do it if you want to be part of the military. Otherwise, civilian doctors will be better off in the end, even if they’re initially drowning in several hundreds of thousands of dollars of student loans.
Watching your video again after 4years, You are one of the people who inspired my med school journey i never really understood you up until now , i wont lie its not really been all i thought( Med school ) , i Am at a place where im dealing with the Medical Student Syndrome and its all just alot but watching this video again , is still helping me to see that im not alone and we all have struggles Thanks Brittany
Hey, you can do multiple HPSP’s (you don’t have to apply to one branch even if the recruiter says you can’t) but the army and navy have more opportunity (slots) than Air Force. HOWEVER- I’ve heard Air Force is cushier, but it also depends on where you wanna be. Navy is the ocean (Florida, CA, Rhode Island, anywhere coastline). Air Force is is mostly dessert (Nevada, Idaho, Utah, etc) . Army is in muggy land or mountains (, Kansas , CO, Texas, Alabama, etc).
If someone asks you what your positive quality is, you should be in your skirt suit and lift your legs up and tell them your legs are your positive quality.
I have a child of 8months rn, single mom of 25, living in Puerto Rico, so my question is, in your eyes/experiences with clear honestly, is enrolling worth for me to apply for scholarship in medical school too and serve?
I’m leaning towards Army heavily, because Air Force doesn’t hold a lot of military residency, for the reason of retirement. That’s a big determining factor for me. I’ve seen they defer AF up to 50% of the time for residency, while Army is 98% residency match to a military residency. Big deal also you have limited career mobility in AF as they own no fellowships all of them are owned by army/navy. Just something to think about as I did
Thanks for posting this video. I just found your channel. Have you graduated med school? If so, do you have a graduation video? Are you doing your residency? I'm not in the med field, but I'm planning to go to doctoral school for high educational leadership next year and thses vlogs of our doctors inspire me, especially with our black women. Congrats on everything you are doing 👏.
How would I go about trying to put in a formal report against a medical student in Texas that was accepted into the AF HPSP program? He forced me into an unwanted and unsafe abortion and left me in a pool of blood. He is scared of blood, by the way. Terrible follow-up skills, bled for months and he was just crossing his fingers I would "get over it" and stop seeking justice. You hired a murderer. A cold murder. He only cared that you were paying his medical school tuition. He declined all opportunities given to him to work with vets in the past...he is evil person...these issues tend to resurface when not taken care of. He has no desire to "fix" this. He is a coward that just lets problems bleeeeed out...out of his sight. He is neither a man of honor nor integrity. He poisoned me for his professional gain. People will salute him. A murderer.
You have been so inspiring to so many. You are loved and supported by many. I’ve been watching your channel since the beginning of time, and to this day, I have been on my journey to medical school. Now that I’m a mother and a fiancé, it’s been more challenging than ever to make it. But God has His hands over my life and I know becoming a Doctor is my purpose. I appreciate and thank God for you. May He continue to watch over and bless you. 🙏🏾
My daughter is a high school junior and is seriously considering joining the Air Force and becoming a medical doctor. We spoke to a recruiter yesterday and I’m waiting for her to make a decision about how soon she wants to join. It’s refreshing to see your channel. 😊
I'm aspiring to become a pediatrician or OBGYN in the future and I'm so confused as to what courses to apply for when I start looking at universities abroad. Any advice?
