Seiffert war immer ein Sänger, bei dem ich mich zurücklehnen und genießen konnte, denn alles passte. Sein Lohengrin war in den 90ern schlicht phantastisch, seine Phrasierung, die mühelose Höhe, nicht gebrüllt, voller Zartheit, auch attackierend, ein Tenor, an dem sich Piepsmaus Vogt ein Beispiel nehmen sollte
I agree with all that, yet I still think he doesn't get his due for how well he sings in other languages and branches of the opera tree - I'm thinking now in particular of his version of the young lovestruck man in Pucinni's Gianni Schicchi, most especially in Avete Torto thru Firenza.

True enough, but possibly too harsh. Note how Seiffert entered the stage with his left hand to his left thigh, and returned it there repeatedly thru the song. This suggests to me that he was singing then with a disability of some sort, I\m thinking in particular a pulled something or other, or more likely a low grade hernia. If so, that could well explain an oddly-placed pause for breath.
It looks as if tonight is Peter Seiffert night for me. I've just listened to a half-dozen opera arias and now this wonderful duet with his wife. Charming and accomplished, both of them.
