I was there in Windsor after his mother died. I dont know how he could have skated to it. I was in second row and I had tears in my eyes. I recently lost my mom, I could not have done it. He is our best.
❤first time ever having such an effect with anyone skating... usually impressed or proud for them- but THIS was a pleasure, <no> a visceral meaningful affectionate performance that touched my soul somehow- wow, deeply felt the mood- His classy performance is worth watching over & over again... with the song that clarified the tone. Been a while but honored to have seen this aesthetically, athletically, emotionally, blessed talent ~such perfection !!

Astonishes me that there aren't more skating (ice or roller) performances to this song, as it's the number one song I associate inextricably with the roller rink.
Franc D'Ambrosio was the first Phantom that I ever saw on stage, during the 1994 tour. He was amazing and still is. I'm so glad to see this video, it's one of my favorite programs of Brian's. They're a great combination.
I'm not sure who the announcer was bet it sounds like he had to pause a little when he is talking about how thoughtful he is. It almost sounds a little like he was shedding a tear (like I did)....
Many of the other men skaters and narrators say the two most focused and athletically fit men skaters are Brian Boitano and Elvis Stojko. I am big fans of both and started watching them carefully and I find that to be totally correct. You can see it on their faces before they take one step. Both Brian B and Elvis are far more concerned with doing their best than w/ winning. I think thats why they are so often winners. That plus their good hearts.
I believe he once did this performance and dedicated it to his mother. It's truly beautiful. A classic from the greatest period of figure skating. All the great skaters, mostly friends, all cheering each other on. It's not like that anymore.
Yes, the real story for me is that the judging was unfairly so close. Boitano's program was so obviously superior that night though Orser to this day says that in his opinion his performance was good enough to have been declared the winner. To be honest, I would likely have scored Petrenko second and Orser third in the long.
I was fortunate enough to be able to see Brian and Katarina during their "Carmen on Ice" tour in 1992. It was an out-of-body experience, being able to see these two extraordinary skaters perform in person.
