Nice video. My friend who also lives in Brazil sent it to me. I'm a Nigerian currently living in Brazil. It's insightful to learn about this history. We still have relics of the cultures and traditions of Africans in Brazil, they are pronounced in some cities than others. Unfortunately, this set of indigenous Brazilians are not accorded the respect they deserves, even in their country, Brazil. Let's all go back to our root, Let's go back home. I just subscribed.

The almost total absence of any local authority is to blame for the loss of historical heritage, what a shame on those who have the responsibility and duty to protect monuments for future generations , but then Nigeria is a third world country in every sense.

I find this quite interesting. However, the documentation is poor - as i'm finding out. Nigeria does not have a culture of preservation. The so called Brazilian quarters is almost wiped out with no strong culture or laws on preservation.

It's kind of amazing and odd that you think of yourselves as descendants of Brazilians, while Black people in Brazil think of themselves as descendants of Africans, which makes sense. They embrace what you seem to shamelessly denounce and reject. Can the leopard change its identity, no matter wherever it is placed? This kind of slavish, ingratiating, low esteem mentality is what keeps the Continent backwards and underdeveloped. You guys need to stop and appreciate and celebrate your Africanness.

Things are shifting all over the world extremely fast. We NEED videos like this of our Elders passing information and telling us the truths about history and events. Too many things still are being whitewashed, distorted, or just removed entirely. It's cool to hear all the knowledge. For me, the religion part isn't relevant due to it being used to divide, oppress, and mislead people, but it's still knowledge of events. Conversely, knowing our connection and ties to each other is extremely important.

Will this not bring division? watch the interview done by DW I felt DW was sowing seeds of division,we welcome all our stolen people who where taken against their wish, but it's time to integrate if any return. And in addition the white slave owners build church for returnee instead of industries to develop themselves that's what happens all over Latin America and the Caribbean where our people where force to Christianity but never given education to develop themselves.

They sold it for exchange of money to survive, they need to eat food and send you to school, it is the Igbo money that survived you. At least thank Igbos, they paid to get the lands because Fulani takes lands without payment and still kill locals to have government control of the lands.

I wonder if they have Candomble IFA orisha worship like in Brazil. Yoruba IFA religion is huge in Brazil like it is in my family's country Cuba. Salvador Bahia Brazil is the heart of Orisha culture. Most people in Bahia worship the orishas synchronising them with the Catholic saints but the orishas are the centre of black Brazilian life.

because they truly own the land. the returned slaves were settled there freely because they were yoruba descendants who were free from slave trade. They have a court ruling to the ownership of the land presided over in london and verdict given since 1920. So, the fact that the owners were generous to give out land freely does not mean the land belongs to anyone else.

this what we in Africa cannot keep, the old buildings should not be brought down all in the name of civilization, it should be preserved. we are destroying history all in the name of civilization, lets try and keep this architectural pieces of wonder and beauty so our next generation would believe our every story about fore fathers

This takes way back! Most of the places touched here were my playground. Although my school was in Surulere many of my school mates had surnames like Cardoso, Pereira, Costs etc. As kids we were aware of great grandparents who returned from 'yonder' but never ever dwelled on the subject. We all spoke Yoruba though mine is slightly fading now. I still remember the Eyor Festival. Need to return too, I'm getting old.

I think its very interesting, so those who returned were de descendants of those who went to. Right ?, ok so the Brazilian names thdy took is it be ayse they lost de names if their Yoruba ancestors or what ? Im just saying did they lost in tour h with their original Yoruba names ? Its ok to have their new country names I’m just asking since their ancestors were Yoruba and they were able to come home just like th3 Brazilians who implanted themselves in Ghana. Ghana have a large Brazilian bkack returnees like this too.

The problem is many of these families (not all) lived an elitist life. Even though they dont exactly belong to that land, the locals took them in. Still, they repaid the Yorubas with treachery that culminated in some recolonization, like what we saw in Liberian and Sierra Leone. So when the Yorubas of then through Awolowo consolidated power, the Saros (as they are locally known) got relegated to the background. Their lack of good rapport with Yoruba people also ensures their grandkids inherit their parents' hate and elitist tendencies.
