Hi, I'm a spinner from New Zealand. I really like the traditional look of this compact wheel. Are they still being made? I can't figure out how the sping transfers to the bobbin. Could you please give an explanation, and maybe a new descriptive video. Thanks, Pat
Ok, it’s Gorgeous! Is this style available? Why did you choose this design of Magpie? How did you come to choosing this design? How do we order one!?!?!? ☺️ Thank you
Hi, I just received an email from you, you had this web site to go to. I really like this spinning wheel, it seems to be a nice smooth spin. I will get back to you in a while. Thank you so much. Alicia
The majority of my fiber is purchased from Woolgatherings, Huckleberry Knits, Homestead Hobbyist, Greenwood Fiberworks, Three Waters Farm, and Spotted Ewe Fibers. For fine spinning I tend to work with Merino, Polwarth, Targhee, BFL, Rambouillet, and any of those with a mixture of silk or bamboo. For fine spinning I typically want something next to skin soft and enjoy the added silk or bamboo for shine.
This is the Aura flyer and the hooks are the standard Aura hook and one from my lace flyer. I later learned you can cross lace via looping around the delta which is more effective and easier.
Evan it can you please tell my why you don't use a woolee winder? It would be so much easier to keep from having to stop and readjust the yarn uptake on the bobbin?
I absolutely hate Woolee winders. Every time I’ve used one it was awful even at the woolee winder booth. They cause too much extra pull, cause slowness in speed as they can’t handle extreme speeds, the bobbins are too heavy, and I do not like how it lays the yarn down it may be even but pales in comparison to my pretty bobbins. I actually injured my arm using one. I enjoy the rhythm of spinning and adjusting my hooks. It’s steady and keeps me moving. I like to change up what my body is doing to help prevent repetitive motion issues. Just sitting there spinning constantly without doing anything different is too repetitive. You can see my pretty bobbins on Instagram EvanitaEWM.
Sorry, I don't have a video for that and I don't spin from the grease in Winter as you need the extra warmth for grease spins to spin best. You spin opened locks just like you would combed top as all the fibers are in one direction.
With the way I wind the underside looks just as tidy with each wrap going further in towards the center on the underside. Once I've expanded as far out on the top as I want to go I start from the center again.
Do you worry about what the underside of the arms looks like when you start a new layer? Do you wind the underside of the arms at the end of the first layer or do you start them over again on top of the older layer?
