It's 3 steps folks. Make grid texture. Create a pattern using the grid you made. Pattern fill on new file. Change percentage and boom. Got a grid. Thank you!
Hi Trisha, great videos! Wondering on the Kin Custom one-piece swimsuit example, in the upper right corner at the beginning of this video, looks a little weird where the right hip meets the right arm. Is that just a bizarre perspective or a PS cutout artifact?
how do set the pixel of the design block for each design. i mean some design 400x400px, some 200x200px, sometimes 600x600px. can you share your formula. i am lost. thanks a milion if u respons this
The size is set by your canvas size when you create your document. Depending on your end goal for the patterns you may choose a smaller or larger canvas. I design now at a large canvas size 7200x7200 px. You can always save it down but since Photoshop is pixel based you really should not scale up.
Are you talking more about digital paper and what scale to use for the pattern repeat for your 3600x3600 digital paper? It really depends on the pattern and what kind of scale you want for you repeats to look. My pattern repeat size for digital paper is usually around 450 to 600 pixels.
This is the only wrapping paper I tried so I can’t give any insight on awkward styles. Overall it was a nice print the paper is just a bit thicker than what you expect with wrapping paper
How can I apply different colors to each repeated shape? Currently, when I select a shape, it changes the color on all copies, but I want to adjust the color of each shape individually. What steps should I follow?
Hold down the shift key while you make the change. I think during one of the updates since making this video Photoshop changed where the default is it will preserve the proportions so you now have to hold down the shift key.
Thank you so much for this wonderful Tutorial. I wanted to know if the output of the digital paper is a seamless repeat and can the outputted jpeg be uploaded to print of demand sites? Thanks once again
Yeah the output should be a seamless repeat, but you always want to just double check, because if you change the scale of the pattern then you just want to make sure that it is at a scale that is still seamless. Yes you can upload your jpg to print on demand sites!
Thanks for the comment! I think Photoshop has such a wide range of what you can do with that sometimes it helps just to watch someone else design with it to see the possibilities.
Can I ask what your usual size is? Or your chest size? I am wanting to get a sample of this made for myself but not sure if I should get Small or Medium as I am a size 4, 36B. Thanks.
My measurements are similar. If you want fitted then I would go for a small that is the size that I sampled. If you like clothes that are a little more looser than the next size up.
Thank you so much! I was struggling so hard understanding how to make a pattern. Couldn't find any premade ones online for free and this video is EXACTLY what I needed!
When I upload my PDF to canva it doesn't work like that. When I hit delete it just deletes the whole thing and doesn't give me the option just to delete the image...
I know that it hasn’t always worked for me and unfortunately sometimes it can be glitchy. Do you have Photoshop? It is another option. Lately I’ve mostly been creating my frames in Photoshop because you can upload a PSD file to Canva which I haven’t had any issues with it.
I don't really work with the ipad version of Photoshop so I can't really help you there. Mostly I don't use it because it does not have all the features of full Photoshop. Sometimes my workaround is using the sidecar/universal display feature from my macbook to my ipad. The laptop runs the full version of Photoshop but you can have it display on your ipad. This way I can draw with my apple pencil on the ipad and still have the full functionality of Photoshop - (tutorial - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pVAt2erHEZo.html)
I’m not saying it’s the best option I just wanted to demonstrate that it was possible. I got a drawing tablet but didn’t like it. I know there are several options out there but I found I like connecting with my iPad vs using the drawing tablet I got
I would try reaching out to Spoonflower through email. This page talks about the process - support.spoonflower.com/hc/en-us/articles/205981356-Seller-Verification
@@TDtech01 most print on demand websites have a pattern repeat feature where you can upload the seamless tile and then use that feature to repeat it for the larger area.
Looking at the patterns panel if you hover over the pattern you can see the dimensions of your repeat pattern (if you don’t see it when hovering there may be a setting you have to turn on). Using that dimension create a new document and select your pattern. From there you can choose to save your pattern tile swatch as a jpg or png file to be able to use it elsewhere.
Thank you for being so generous and sharing your template. I've been watching (and liking) many of your tutorials, and just clicked the subscribe button. I'm new to the concept of surface design, and aspects of sizing have been a bit perplexing. This tutorial, and your template have helped demystify a lot. I think it will all gel when I finish a design and play on Spoonflower with an upload. Future plans ;). Truly appreciate your tutorials and all the time it takes you to make them.
I always forget how to do this so end up doing a RU-vid on the rare occasions I need it. Firstly, in a tutorial, you never step over the steps by saying 'I have an action'/ Your users do not, unless you supply it and mention its necessity ahead of the tutorial. Secondly, for anyone else, you can centre stuff by clicking on the layer, pressing ctrl/cmd+A to select all, pressing V to get the move tool and then going to the top tool bar and clicking the central align icon for vertical and horizontal. You can also rotate to 90 degrees by pressing ctrl/cmd+T, holding shift and clicking and dragging outside of the bounding box to rotate. Holding shift will make it rotate in multiples of 45 degrees.
Thanks for the feedback. I went through a phase on trying to promote my actions but since this video I have stopped using actions in my tutorial videos because I have realized people like seeing all the steps.
