From those first electrical notes that introduce the very spirit of the whole song it's as if Elliott's genius got hold of him and said: 'this solo - and this solo alone - is the one that gets played for this song. - Do it now. - So Elliott did. And there it is. Forever. Part of the American myth. 😎
The guitar work in this song is just screaming with character. In a world of maudlin and angry guitar solos it's nice to hear one having a good ol' time. Elliott's a legend and, btw, that's the Strat he used on the original recording.
When “Reelin’ in the Years” came out on radio, I ran downtown to buy the “single,” mainly because of the amazing guitar work. Years later, my wife and I were in a large swimming pool on the island of Aruba. The only other couple in the pool was Eliott Randall and his girlfriend. We spent the next few days together exploring the island. A freaky coincidence, but true!
Imagine being the guy who wrote and played one of the most iconic guitar riffs in rock history, and being able to still play it with this kind of perfection, and joy, all these decades later. Incredible.

Quite amazing! They were all just so tight together! Elliot , at one point looked over to Darrell the drummer and they instantly communicated with a quick glance. And listen again and you see exactly what happened at that moment. BRILLIANT.!!!
