Rio is adorable! ❤️ But please don’t teach him to poop on command because this can make him very sick! When and if a bird learns to poop on command it can strain itself to poop for you to get the reward, even if he has nothing in his intestines to excrete. This is dangerous for a bird’s body because they have naturally fast metabolisms. Another problem is the bird can learn to hold in its poop until you give the command to poop and this is equally dangerous and damaging to the intestines and digestive system. Let the bird poop on his own free will, PLEASE.
I understand completely... but this was part of my trying to teach him to poop in one place. As it is, however... he only poops on command in one place. So he's fine. I would LOVE to know how to teach him to poop in one place... helps with cleanup etc...
I have to wonder what he was thinking, just hanging around there. Looked like he wouldn't be able to get the momentum to get back up, at least not easily, and it didn't look like he was even trying... and it's not like he could contest the point from there.
