Hi! I’m Matt Pierce. I am a professional adventure photographer and videographer originally from Canada and now living on Maui, Hawaii with my wife (Alayna), twins (Elliot & Ari), and two dogs (Bear & Blue). This channel is all about what it’s like living on Maui as a full-time creator.
@@WakeUpMatt hey! A lot of fabrics like jeans, walls, buildings. It is very noticeable, I have a Bmpcc6k and a Fujifilm xh2s too and those cameras deal much better with Moire.
I just bought the 21 for my blackmagic 6k full frame because I tend to shoot in super 35 mode more then I do open gate and after doing the math. 21 MM in super 35 mode is around 35MM so it works for the focal length im looking for.
Yeah man, you don't stop the cam on cinema sets in between takes, In fact you don't stop it ever. It's always ready sitting on tripod head attached to a magliner or something, ready to be picked up by 2AC. While Komodo is small (relatively), but it's still aimed at cinema workflow. The simple truth is that the less stuff one has to assemble/carry etc - the better it is to work with on run and gun gigs. Cinema stuff is just crap to work with alone - it takes so much effort. It doesn't mean it's worse or better - it's just aimed at different style of jobs.
I bought an FX3 a couple of weeks ago. I didn't understand native ISO or why I should use CINE IA, but thanks to this video, I finally got it. Great content! Greetings from Chile.
All these comparison videos can be answered this simply. If you are an Uber driver, you don' t buy a Ferrari, you buy a Prius, or a minivan. If you can afford a Ferrari and you like to drive cars, well, buy the Ferrari.
0:00 AND you're opening this video by demonstrating how not to hold this camera with your fingers in the frame. :) 1:02 THERE you go! That's the way. :) Your model looks gorgeous. I have a F6B that doesn't look nearly as good. Interesting that the shutter speeds are slightly different. Mine are 1/15, 1/250 and 1/125.
@@thedarkslide haha yeah, the first shot didn’t have any film in it and the next one did :) And thanks! It was a lot of fun to shoot on. Definitely interesting they switched up the shutter speeds. Not too sure why.
The Canon AE-1 provided the best photography experiences from the late eighties to 2006, when I made beautiful photographs of a young woman in her early twenties who now has six children. The kids are not mine but the privilege of authoring her best full body portraits most definitely is. Looking to replace my AE-1 with an upgrade soon.
Red Raptor X and Canon R5C here. Next up an Alexa of which the Sony cannot touch. The Alexa is unreal in luminous depth, color and extreme dynamic range. It's what the Sony wants to grow up to be.
1. Can I ask what lens or lenses did you use to make this doc on the Komodo X? 2. Speed booster? 3. Was your shots mostly handheld? Thanks in advanced.
@@WakeUpMatt Awesome thank you for sharing. 1. Did you do your own color grading? 2. If you can remember, did you record in Red raw MQ, LQ, or etc.. and what camera settings for the recording did you use? 3. What platform did you use to edit and grade? Thanks for any info you wish to share.
I have watched many videos on this but still don't "Get" it. I shoot with an external monitor and check false colors when I am shooting and have a LUT applied which basically does the same thing and shows me what my "end" result will be more or less. What's the difference? Is this just when you are using the cameras monitor and with out a gamma display applied? Otherwise it does not make that much sense to me or it is basically the same thing. I always shoot in my dual base ISO's manually .
wondering when working with fx3 after the red komodo, do you see that the sony image is bit worse, like more digital, lesser colors? or it is just different but on same level. how you would describe the difference in image quality?
@@RafalGendarz the Komodo x image is great. 6k RED raw was fantastic, but for the work that I do and for my client’s needs, no one can tell the difference. And if they do require or request RED, I can always rent and put that in the budget. The KX just came with too many frustrations for my workflow and needs to justify the image quality.
Thanks for the video Matt! I'm curious if the different ISOs on the camera are equally clean? Or should you generally stick to 100? I'm proposing using this for a shoot at night and trying to calculate the amount of light I should bring. I appreciate your thoughts!
One creative feature that you can only get with a rotating lens camera is stretching or compressing moving objects (Passing cars, bicycle), or even completely distorting them (dancers)
Really liked your review and agree with much of what you have said….. I’m really enjoying my Fjorden but really feel they need to keep up with the production of cases to mirror the way apple update their iPhone versions
The C80 does look great, but I still stand by my decision. The C80 is still a bit more bulky than the FX3 which fits my needs. I do miss the internal ND, but I was able the get an FX3 and an a7RV for almost the same price as the C80.
Thanks so much for the great video, Matt. I really appreciate the clarity and organization in the way you presented the information. I’d love to see a tutorial on how you color correct and grade your S-Log footage, as that’s been one of my biggest challenges. I’m still struggling to achieve a sharp image without it looking flat and grainy.
Hi Matt! thanks for the video 🙏🏻 Would you use the same strength for all focal lengths? And have you ever tried Hollywood Black Magic filter? Thanks again, have a good one!
These techniques are geared for real filmmakers who have control of their scene (i.e. lighting). As a YT scrub, I rely heavily on Zebras instead since I rarely connect an external monitor. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the +1.7 rule - it depends heavily on your scene. I was out shooting today and had to adjust down to +.3 to get the proper exposure. Good tips nonetheless!
That’s fair, although I do still use all these techniques when I’m shooting more doc style without any lights. But I appreciate the feedback! Zebras are definitely a great call too!
