I am back in process of finding a new perfect for my journaling, tracking, bullet journal routine after what I had been doing stopped really working for me. I've been thinking I'm gonna try a Cousin next year so I can refocus on just doing the journaling I miss and not think about seeing up spreads at all. But I also like these common place log books as well. I like your layout style and let system - very neat and easy to follow as you flip through things later. Gotta check out that app too. Could make life a lot easier maybe.
I definitely get the feeling of things not working anymore! I really love dated planners because I also don’t like having to set up all the spreads. I do have to be okay with blank pages when I miss days though. But using the Daylio app has made me feel totally okay about missing days in my planner/journal because I know I recorded my day digitally. Thanks for your comment! 🫶
I love your pocket notebook. I started carrying just a passport travelers notebook with me everywhere. I wear a uniform with a cargo pocket so I have it with me all the time. I really enjoy seeing other people using pocket notebooks. I know its helped me with reading notes and work notes. Great video! I really hope you do a video on your reading notes. I'd definitely like to see what kind of set up you have.
Thank you so much! They are truly so useful. I love to see how different people use them too, I get so many great ideas from others. And I love that you get to keep yours close at hand! It is a requirement for my bags to fit my pocket notebook 😂 And I actually just filmed the reading notes video, so I should hopefully have that up in the next week or so!
Hi Dez! I’ve been confused about commonplace books, but seeing your little books made me so happy. They’re so cute! I tried doing a commonplace book in an A5 dotted MD notebook, but I think the size is too big for me. 😅 I liked your tip for putting down colors for the key and leaving room for new topics to appear and for less interesting topics to get let go of. I have a handful of pocket notebooks and I’m always trying to think of a way to try using them. I like your daily log too! The moleskine planner looks so classy. 🙂 I am curious about a daily log because I feel like the hours of the day and the days themselves just pass and I have no recollection of what I did.. 😅 I love mid-year techo kaigi videos so I’d be happy to see yours if you’re up to sharing. ^^ Also if you have any strategies of saving crochet patterns you’re interested in potentially doing in the future or any ways specific to crochet that you’ve found to be helpful in your journals I’d be curious to know! Same with gaming, I casually play Stardew Valley and ACNH and I’ve been looking for some inspiration other than literally copying the wiki whenever I have a question.. which is what I currently do hahahaha. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you so much!! 🥰 I also tried using an A5 notebook (Hobonichi day-free) for commonplacing and it didn’t work for me. It’s just too big for me to use consistently! So a pocket notebook might work for you too ☺️ The moleskine does look so classy! And that’s exactly how I feel, if I don’t record my day I’ll have no idea what happened 😅 The combo of the pocket log and the Daylio app has been such a game changer for me. I think I will do a mid-year techo kaigi ☺️ it might take me a sec since those videos tend to be long, but they’re so fun 😂 As far as keeping inspo, I tend to do that in Notion or Pinterest. I might make some lists in my pocket notebook though of patterns I’d like to do! When I start a pattern I usually write some notes in my pocket notebook so I can reference them easily ☺️ For games I also keep a Pinterest board for inspiration. And then I like to write down what I was doing / what my future plans are in my pocket notebook, because I definitely forget between play sessions 🙈😂 Thank you so much for your kind comment! It’s so fun to connect over these things 🥰
Love the look of your Fields Notes! Never would've guessed that you had been too precious with it. It looks and feels really lived in and like a second brain. I used to do the same in smaller notebooks and weirdly it's when I moved to a bigger one that I feel like I've lost that a little. Really enjoyed your video!
Thank you so much! Your comment made me smile ☺️ I really want my pocket notebook to feel lived in & like an extension of my brain. That’s so interesting about switching to a bigger notebook; I’ve definitely considered a bigger one, but I wonder if I’d feel stifled by it too. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!
Late to the comments, but I wanted to add to your Lamy/fine nib/ shimmer ink discovery: I was finding Wearingeul’s “I am a cat” troublesome in a lot of my M -B nib pens - I was trying it out in all my pens hoping for a match and to my surprise it flowed beautifully out of my Lamy F nib! (How?!?🤯). The shimmer distributes evenly, no clogging… I never would have thought a Lamy fine could handle this problem child of a shimmer ink! Thank you for the video, BTW!
So it’s not just me! Thank you for sharing that, it’s so interesting. I am so impressed with the LAMY F nibs, it’s wild how well it handles shimmer 😯 Thank you for watching! 🫶
@@dezs-diary No! It’s not just you! I guess that’s why we’re constantly swapping inks in and out of the pens in our collections- you really never know what the result can be!
Yes, they do! They typically release in September for the following year and do restocks throughout the year. They also have an April start release in February every year.
Hi Dez! This is the first video of yours that I am watching. (: I had a blast watching and listening to you! As you talked through more and more of your journals I found more and more in common with you! I just finished my first full year in Stardew. I was getting pretty bored in Winter.. but now that it’s Spring again I am excited to play. Hahaha. I love your cheerful spirit, it really shines through! I also think your desk and wooden drawers are beautiful. Looks like a really cozy place to study, read, and “stationery” haha. I can’t remember who I saw this from.. but I saw someone cut a little slit in the back of their clean cover on the HON so that the pen loop would fit in it and not shift around. Just wanted to share since you mentioned it’s too flimsy to actually use it as a pencil board. I am also tempted to pick up an A6 or A5 cat notebook from the Hobonichi Spring 2024 release. They’re so freakin’ cute. I have not been able to wrap my head around how to use a commonplace book. I am interested in many different things. So much that I have contemplating starting a bunch of different TN inserts. LOL. It’s cool to see that you commonplace so many different topics. Maybe I will give it a shot and see how it goes ~ I hope your crochet blanket is coming along well. I also crochet :) I look forward to seeing how your journals evolve throughout the year! (:
This has got to be the sweetest comment I’ve received 🥹 thank you so much! Cutting a slit in the HON clear cover for the pen loop is such a good idea! I may have to try it 😊 And I’m so excited you’re trying out a commonplace book! I’ve definitely tried the having-a-bunch-of-notebooks approach and it never works out for me. I do have to remind myself that it’s okay to write whatever I want in my commonplace book, even if it isn’t always pretty. I hope it’s working out for you! ☺️
I recently downsized to the same Field Notes NB. 😅 I needed something small that I could carry with me. An A6 size NB would be a great EDC commonplace book, too!
I agree that a commonplace should be with me at all times. I’m trying to wrap my head around using Goodnotes as my commonplace and just transfer information from my notebook. The alternative is use my iPad for everything and give up my notebook. That option makes me sad. Love the Jack London quote.
I totally understand the debate of a notebook vs digital commonplace! I’ve being using both for a while and I’m liking it so far. I’m using a pocket notebook to write whatever I want in, and then I use Obsidian to keep notes that I want to reference a lot or want to be able to search for later. So some things are in both places, which might be redundant, but I think it’s worth it to get all the benefits of both 😌
Do you ever find the A5 Hon too big to keep up with? I’m having the same issues you are and I really want to have this great big book of everything that’s filled out and full of daily memories but it’s not going great😂 I’m considering switching to the a6 size to make it more manageable. Would you ever downgrade in size?
I definitely do find it hard to fill in all the time! I tried using an A6 last year actually and found that it was a little easier to keep up with, but that I often ran out of room when I was writing about my day. So there’s definitely a balance there. I’ve decided that I’m okay having blank pages in my A5 because I do really like the size ☺️ but I think it’s definitely personal preference, and an A6 could work for you!
I had this in the small and large size. The small is the perfect size. And I like how it lays flat, but I cannot deal with all of the lint and dog hair it picks up 😂. I returned my small one and plan to sell my large one.
Okay yes, this! Mine picks up lint & dog hair like crazy, I literally lint rolled it before the video 😂 I love the style so much though, I’m just living with it for now. Maybe in the future I’ll try to get one that’s a different fabric haha
The brown kaweco sounds like it might have slight babies bottom? It is a common issue with kaweco nibs and it can be such an mild but consistently annoying issue
I think you’re right! I’ve tried messing with the nib & feed a bit, but the problem continues. It is frustrating enough that I barely use that pen now, which is sad because it’s so special to me. Thank you for your comment, I think I’ll order some micro mesh to see if I can fix it!
as someone who also wanted to match their fountain pen to the liberty fabrics hon cover, kobe ink 68 is a beautiful color that matches the muted teal/blue!
such a lovely video, watching this as I'm cleaning my pens to reink them hehee may I ask if you remember what store in amsterdam you went too? I'm currently planning a trip there and would love to visit
It’s really such a pretty ink! I just ordered a bottle of it from Truphae 🤭 it was a bit tricky to track down honestly! Thank you for your kind comment 🫶
At the moment i have Monteverde olivine in my twsbi mini classic with a ef nib, then Robert oster cherry blossom in my twsbi eco indigo blue which also has ef nib. plus i have pre-ordered the kaweco art sport in hickory brown with a medium nib.
I would love to see what inks you use! I'm fairly new the wonderful world of fountain pens so I'm super interested in see what others use :) Also the little ghosts on your nails are super cute! 😍
I was unsure if I wanted to get this pouch or not, but your video convinced me to get it! just ordered one in yellow and im really excited to start using it
I love seeing some graphic novel representation! I really did enjoy Out Wives Under the Sea when I read it in August in spite of not knowing what to expect. I hope you enjoy it too! 😊 The Last of Us meets Birdbox sounds like such a great combination. I hope October has proven to be a great reading month so far! 🎃
Ahh yes I love adding some graphic novels to my TBRs! Ooh I’m really excited for Our Wives Under the Sea, I think it’s going to be right up my alley! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it ☺️ I’m honestly super intrigued by Your Shadow Half Remains, but also nervous because I’m a scaredy-cat 😂 I can’t wait to read it though! Thank you so much for the kind comment! I hope October is going great for you too 🥰🎃
I’ve got a whole spooky lineup for October, though most of my books are on the lighter side. I read Dracula already this month so I’m most excited to finally get to A Dowry of Blood by S. T. Gibson!
