Hi Dave,thank you for sharing the information with people.I would like to ask a question if you don't mind, I intend to open a body shop in Ontario, Canada. As of now, I would like to find a business consultant who specializes in the auto repair industry, who knows what is good to do when opening a business and what to avoid. Could you recommend me someone or a company which does that. Thank you very much.

Dave, this is so refreshing. I work in a SaaS business - nothing to do with body shops. Yet what are you saying should resonate with so many businesses and business segments out there. Simple and to the point. A perfect demonstration of what so many brands today have forgotten: Poor, transactional customer service will have some serious consequences down the road.

What would be the best applications to view the OEM Procedures. I feel Alldata doesn't have a lot. I have played around with RepairLogic. Of course OEM Position Statements from OEM1Stop are nice. But where would you recommend?

I am new to the collision world and coming in from owning my own detail shop. I am moving into a service writer position in a few days and need a jump on this software. Was hoping to find a free module to download that would allow me to move through the actions in the comfort of my own home and create ghost estimates. Simply to learn the program.

I love this. I use CCC, but I don't know if we have this option. Will definitely be looking into this Monday morning. This would be a tremendous time saver as right now I'm using an excel spread sheet. I'm constantly looking for ways to increase efficiency in every aspect of daily actions. Thank you for sharing .

That's good advice Dave! The biggest problem with dealership bodyshops is that the Parts department gets all the profit from the parts.

Just finished our morning walk talk (as we call it)a few hours ago. We do it individually with each tech to break down the days game plan for whats up to be shipped that day all the way down to eta on parts. Definitely is a biggy and helps keep everyone involved throughout each job so we are all the same page. Takes 5 to 10 mins per tech! Like some of your thoughts on this topic that we will begin to incorporate. Thanks again!

@@DaveLuehr My family and I owned and operated a successful local shop my whole life, actually my father just sold the shop back in October. Was his retirement plan for the 40 years he was in the collision repair industry. Myers Body Shop, in Brevard NC.. Still in the industry though and actually work with Joe Hudson Collision now, in the management side of things so I enjoy your insights and knowledge you provide in your videos. Thanks for sharing and passing some lessons learned, down for us to grab on to. Always looking for ways to learn and grow within my profession and you have definitely helped in that regard!

Ok but before you get cycle time you have to have the maximum bugs worked out of your SOPs process and cross train your people working together and doing it the same way every time.The techs are the monster and you have to feed that monster so a lean lean WIP will kill your monsters drive but you cant just have cars sitting either.its a balance but i think shop lose site of it. If they lose site of the worker GP then the the worker wont care about the shops or MSO or Owners GP. and thats one big reason why you are not seeing 2nd generation body men or painters any more.😮😮😮 where did they Go.😢😢😢 they were WIP AN GP to death and when their give a Dam was broken they disappeared just like the Mohicans 😧😧😧😭😭🧐🧐🧐 they goneeees😮😮😮
@DaveLuehr
@DaveLuehr 8 месяцев назад
That's a lot to take in. When techs are paid on commission, most behaviors change and usually not in a good way nowadays. Grateful for your comment.
@keithlanning7381
@keithlanning7381 8 месяцев назад
True but with out them and giving them what they need to do their job it kills the drive of the whole shop.they are asked to do many things that cost them their cycle time an pay.from hunting parts and qc parts when they come in and not having a educated parts person they have to stop their paying job to help someone that is paid hourly to do theirs. Kills their drive.

We advertised on our Nextdoor business page for free for a year. We just started paying for Google ads. We also just designed a website that enables a customer to send a request for a virtual estimate. I like your idea about job already in our shop! I will utilize that tip.

Im currently a technician at a shop in NC and always have more than 8 cars on my list. Just last week we had my fellow team tech out on vacation and we didn't cut the flow. I now have 19 torn down and written, 4 in progress, plus built 3 last Friday. We are a bump and bolt shop with the geico XD program and some other drps. Im currently looking to acquire a shop instead of working in one. I make great money but getting tired of the physical work. If you know of any shops that are looking to sell, or areas i should look, please let me know.

@@DaveLuehrI love it. I am highly efficient and work best under pressure. I definitely have job security as long as I'm there. That is some of the problem I'm having while I try to buy a business. The golden handcuffs... With the hours I'm turning, plus bonuses it's hard to match, nevermind beat what I earn.

I have shown others a huge intolerance for ABUSE, lies, and poverty. Be it technological, finanicial, relational abuse - whatever! It's not my responsibility to educate people who are hell bent on forcing these things into my life! It's my responsibility to NOT TOLERATE THEM. How about that for a lesson on tolerance?

Hi Dave, love your content! I'm just wondering, wouldn't it be more accurate to book my schedule by hours instead of dollars? IE i got this Porsche going in my shop with small to medium damage (front bumper + Headlamp Assembly) considering the fact that the headlamp alone cost 5k$ wouldn't that mess with my objectives? i think schedulling by dollars $ works fine with regular cars but it is difficult to use that method when your sales mix include high end cars. What are you thoughts on that?
@DaveLuehr
@DaveLuehr Год назад
Hi sorry for the late reply... With the addition of ADAS costs, more and more shops are choosing to use hours instead of dollars. In larger shops it doesn't make a huge difference in workflow either way as long as there is a good mix of work ready to enter production.
