There is no written test to get into the Ironworkers apprenticeship the only test is a guy stands in front of you with his arms extended and has one hand palm open and the other hand palm closed and he asks which hand is the nut in
man I wish I had an In for iron workers. I took the test local 417 in NY, I was one of the BEST at the colum climb and beamwalk, instructor even outloud said "shit I guess you do know how to climb haha" literally practiced on ibeams at the mall for 3 months no harness or nothing. I killed the rebar carrying part, cuz at my job cutting trees all I do is carrying hundreds and thousands of pounds back and fourth everyday. But I FUCKED up the measuring part man.... Ive never really used a tape measure and I thought it was 16ths but this tape measure they gave me wad actually 32nds... when I marked the iron with the chalk too, the chalk tip was so fat, my mark took u 3 lines on the tape measure, how tf do you get an accuragte measure with a piece of chalk?? Fuck man I put everything I had into this and I dropped it on the measuring part... 150 applicants and only hiring 7. Not gunna get a letter this year. Gotta wait another year I guess.
@@mickcollins2746 thank you brother, already in talks with the BOCES people, gunna take nighttime welding classes, learn how to weld AND measure haha, I'll apply again next year.
When you mark with chalk you have to use the edge of the mark for your measurements as you found out the line is way too thick to get a reliable measurement. Put a little arrow pointing to what side is the side you marked. Or just use a sharpie, or if it’s light fab(not iorn work) a fine point sharpie.
Damn what state are you in... they needed people so bad in Georgia I didn't even have to test in lol.. literally applied last week and I just signed my papers and drug tested in yesterday. All I did was a orientation and interview. Sorry man.. you should try another local if you have the funds to move
