Thanks for this, down loaded version 1 for free on pdf. Tried a quick bloodbath scenario last night, solo, very quick and easy. Als0 first game I've played with my medievals in over 30 years thanx for prompting me to dig them out. Question: has version 2 done away with the 3" proximity rule?
Hi and thank you for viewing. Re the 3 inch proximity rule, no it has not been removed, however I believe it is for games of 24 points or less. As a house rule, we don’t play it. They recommend in rule book dropping it to 1 inch, we don’t play that either. One aspect of the proximity rule we forget that if not in combat you cannot be within 3 inches of nme. Maybe we should play this, but when 2 big lines clash I think it would be difficult to manage. I hope that helps, v2 is much improved in layout, recommend you get it.
Realizing you're new/rusty at it, but I don't think I'd like BP compared to the other 'Rampant type games you all play. Seems too fiddly for the bang, even if you're fluent in the rules, but I'd watch a couple of good friends fighting over a battlefield with little miniature men all day, everyday.
@@risusrules yep indeed, it is a fun game to play, from my pov using all my Sharp Practice minis to play something bigger for me was very rewarding and does look great. We are improving with the rules, second game played last Tuesday was better. I know what you mean about rules, I like saga but that takes deeeep thought. Thx for viewing.
A congested center of terrain made movement abit of a nightmare for you mate. First battle i've seen using Black Powder's rules, and i enjoyed it more than i thought i would considering the era it's set in. And i'm looking forward to more in the future. Also a good joke, kinda surprised by that :P Thanks for the vid, Graham.
You are very rusty. Closing fire happens after the charger has moved into contact. Artillery get a free move when limbered. The general gives a reroll to one of his brigade commanders within 12 inches . ....
@@garrywillswargamerauthor excellent feedback, this what i was after. Firstly rusty (?) i would say ignorant. The rules, still learning, the second game is much better. The general reroll rule is have seen others use it but couldn’t find in the rule book. Thank you for viewing and commenting. Hopefully, even with the errors, you enjoyed it as much as we did..
@@robandrosehobden3344 this game will be uploaded in a couple of weeks. i have our actual first game going live, on Saturday. Plenty more content coming. Loving BP.
I'm not sure the six Polish hearthguard could have charged the Ordenstaat warlord across the bridge, unless they used an extra activation and went in with a fatigue. A cavalry charge ought to be in a straight line, up to L, from the models starting position, you can't move M, turn and then charge another M with a mounted model. Movement for mounted models can be an M followed by another M with a bend in the middle, but charging should be in a straight line.
@@JasonCarey-t6s the polish HG had 2 activations, 1 to cross the bridge, second to charge. They had a fatigue in the melee i think. I didn’t make this clear in the recording, my bad. They still failed, it was very much a last ditch effort. It was a tough match up for me and I didn’t play well, tbh.
@@grahamswargamevault2635 gotcha, I'm with it now, yep, it was a tough one and the Ordenstaat changes seem to make them more interesting to play, great job in posting stuff up :)
@@JasonCarey-t6s yep the Ordannstaat are the new super power in Crusades. Not only that, i think they could loom great as well. i think maybe can use Teutonic’s and there are some great ranges for those.
Great battle report, and an interesting scenario. I found it hard to keep track of which units belonged to which player becuase of the diagonal deployment - and the fact they were painted very similar to each other! The Age of Crusades FAQ is a bit of a game-changer. Most of the changes seem good though - buffing underwhelming activations and nerfing some of the most over-powered activations/rules (Mongol War Drumer anyone?)
@@Swindondruid2 Hi SD, yep the diagonal deployment is very unusual, could be tricky to follow. The faq has really shaken up the age of crusades, a lot of the factions play differently. i think also with age of chiv soon out(?) and this book offering compatible factions, they needed to do it. Kinda sad for the mongol war drummer thou.
Despite not enjoying the SAGA ruleset all that much, i find a lot of enjoyment watching it being played by you lads at the centre! Thanks for the vid, Graham! 😊
@@risusrules yep I agree, LR is a very direct game, less variables/decisions. Saga with the battle boards offers more opportunities/decisions. Depends what you want in a game.both were good, in different ways.
A tale of two dice early on. Wayne with his rather nice fancy dice, and poor Chris relegated to Graham's absolutely wank ones. Was an excellent game to watch, so many double ones 😅 On a side note, i really like your house rule of units with minimal minis being taken away. Always looks funny seeing one guy rolling 6 dice still. Gonna pinch that. Cheers for the vid Graham! Hope to see you rolling instead of shit stirring next game 😂
It is a thoroughly enjoyable game to watch, my one problem is where Wayne charged his cavalry into Christophe's heavy infantry going over a hedge and through the pool surely that has to be "rough going" and looked to be over 5 inches could they have actually made contact?
Hi really pleased you enjoyed the game, we/they did agree at beginning hedges were merely table dressing and objective could be passed over without slowing.. in past have played this and objective really slowed game
@@christopherfranklin972 a interesting observation and something I have discussed with Wayne. Reason I do is I am acutely aware if i throw dice on the table, the camera does not capture the moment. I have to zoom out. With the opponent further away from camera I am more likely to fully capture their “roll”. I have used dice trays in the past but many of my opponents donot like them. It is a fair observation and thx you for viewing.
Yes, to see all the dice it needs to be a gentle throw, rather than have the dice spread out over the whole table. The dice trays are good, but sometimes you can’t see the dice due to the high tray sides. 😁
@@wargameshobby also Alex some opponents just don’t like dice trays,,, they can be a bit of a eye sore on the battlefield. A few years ago I did experiment with 2 cameras, maybe I should give this more thought.
@@davefielder4411 yep it does but not in the advanced rules. I think if you are playing 24 points or less it’s fine, 24+ you need adavanced, tbh typically with 7 units a side it switches pretty quickly. LR is a v fast game, most finished in under 2 hours
We have had long discussions on this. The general consensus was that for 24 point games the re-roll method works fine, but for larger games the alternative method mentioned on page 39 is better. Some units still fail to activate, and with me it is often most who fail, but overall it seems a popular alternative. However, we all agree to use the re-roll method if someone really wants to. 😁
Thanks for posting 😊 “All these little units buzzing around still getting six dice”: Well, you’d have to have been quite lucky with your Courage rolls. I mean you get -1 for each model killed, so if you have lost 11 models from a regular unit, you’d have a whopping -11 on courage tests! I have a hard time imagining they would stay on the table for long 😅 A -5 for a six-man unit is also pretty harsh. Exciting game though!
Good game - This is a period that doesn’t get enough love. It gets overshadowed by Napoleonics’ grander scope and more of international participation, but Naps wouldn’t have happened without the revolutionary wars.
@@oldschoolfrp2326 100% agree, infact Bill build more into the army racial rules that I didn’t use.. I did it a disservice by dumbing it down, next time we will use more of these details.
Enjoyed the game ... I have the rules but have never played them as yet .. The catch all confederate Poor Shots is Not historically correct and should be governed by both the year and theatre.. But that is something easily resolved .. More of these games please !
@@raycarpenter6466 yes I agree about the confederates muskets, other rules (Sharp practice) do show a difference. I did enjoy the game, next time we will be more up to speed with the game,,, maybe a cannon or 2 next time.
Good report Gra. 👍 I have mostly played unit skirmish games, but am quite happy to give individual figures a go. Less to paint as well. 😁 Obviously a lot of work has gone into this so I hope it is a success. I will keep an eye out for it. 👁️
@@grahamswargamevault2635 I've routinely played on a larger table wiht two or even three twenty-figure reintues (on a bigger table) without it becoming an issue.
oh flip, more changes. I will take a look. I have not played for some time, so maybe the changes won't matter to me as I don't remember how the factions play anyway. 😂
Trying a demo of this was top of my list of things to do at Colours and it didn't disappoint. I too found the close quarter combat system very reminiscent of Middle Earth SBG which was one of that games particular strong points for me. I have to say I'm looking forward to backing the Kickstarter I have also been thinking along the lines of swapping Chivalry for Bushido.
Thanks for the praise. I would caution that, in spite of its superfifical similarities, Bushido was part of a very different warrior culture from that of chivalry. I'd be interested to see what you come up with.
@@historianinharness Hi Rob, i did enjoy your game. Your delivery was excellent. HYW era is very much my favorite period to game, it spreads across Europe, Hawkwood in Italy, what was happening in Germany and the HRE, all have a narrative, which your games deliver. I look forward to be hearing more.
Thank you very much for this, I didn't know a new FAQ was out. That is a lot of changes, so I will announce this to my club next club evening. Thanks once again.
Jahannam felt a bit redundant due to Fanaticism which did almost the same thing, and in your opponent's turn when they would be attacking you. Losing it in return for potentially resurrecting lost models is a big win for them.
Dues Vult! took a slight hit as the Warlord previously inflicted 4 hits (due to Presence), and it was per number of Hearthguard not just 3 or 6, but they did make it a one dice ability.
Brilliant show I love going to that one best off all as I am disabled unfortunately I can't make it this year but really enjoyed your video it's look like you're had a great day 👍👍👍🤠🤠🤠
Brill show, really enjoyed it. Some really interesting demo games. Devastated you did not take a vid of us hip young things playing in the Hordes of The Things tourney.
@@Swindondruid2 yep great show, actually bought no minis, but lots of comsumerable, also 3 great zipper carry boxes for my new naps… I am in need of a project..
I don't' know how many you're going to need to need but i think painted markers are much easier recognise when they have a specific colour designated to a particular marker
A fun and inexpensive rules set and a good video (sorry I had to stop about an hour in - chores beckoned!). p.s. At 45:05, Skirmishers always Fight with only half their dice (i.e., 6 dice each) and at 51:55, you should have taken a test to see if the officer with your unit was one of the casualties (at first, we often forgot that last one).
