Welcome to our channel...we are hobby breeders of Netherland dwarf rabbits, Guinea pigs, Syrian hamsters and rats . We also have Yorkshire Terrier Dogs as pets.
Our channel will be full of handy tips and advice of things we have learnt along the way.
A vivarium isn’t really recommended (it can be ok when they are babies under a year ) but it’s super hard to regulate and you don’t want them to be over hot With a table they can walk away from the heat - so they have cooler spots to escape to. Pros and cons with everything but also you have to think about floor space and a tortoises table can provide much better space for them x
@@woodlandbabies thanks you. I did think that. Was opting for the vivarium as that’s what was in the shop and also more suited as we have cats but I think I will now look at the tables but with some sort of covering that will keep the little guy safe but with a more natural air flow etc.
I put him out on the hotter summer days (in a safe garden space) - but even then I supervise as we have lots of birds here like hawks - so have to be very careful. They can pick up speed outside and speed walk/ run around 😂
Best tip is to get the biggest table you can afford to start with ..They grow quite fast and the more space you can give them the better. Spend time to get the temperatures right. This is crucial for good health. Research the diet - optimal diet is important. Buy from a reputable breeder who has a good knowledge of the breed. Most of all you will love them! They really are amazing animals and bring a lot of joy.
@@woodlandbabies thank you for the advice. I’ve heard that it’s best to keep the lights off for them at night when keeping them indoors for hydration and also so it’s more natural. How many hours do you have the lights on for when inside? Looking forward to getting one! Thanks again
Yes. The panacur is very effective. If you can see worms then you need to treat - if they are small and white then that’s pinworms - if they are larger worms it may be a different type. They can carry a certain amount but then get an overload which can stop them eating. Make sure once treated that you remove the paper each day. You keep them in this quarantined way for the duration of the pin worm lifecycle. There are some great Facebook groups who have lots of additional info on this too. Xx
I know this is an older video but I'm distraught and need advice. I have 2 dwarf rabbits and I've breeded them twice. The first litter 2 were alive but died within 24 hours, I thought it was ok because the first litter has a low chance of survival. But now she's just had her second litter and they're all dead. They were alive and well in the womb but once they come out they have no signs of life. I tried warming them but I don't think they're cold, they're just dead. Both times there was 1 or 2 that were freakishly long like maybe 5". Is this normal? What am I or the mother doing wrong? She's in a cage in my home so she's safe and warm. She pulled tons of fur and made a nice nest. She drags them out of the nest both times. I'm so upset and I'm starting to lose hope. I feel so bad for the mother having to lose her babies like this.. Please give some advice. Thank you ❤
Hello. It could be a few factors here. Would you like to pop me a message via Instagram? We are woodlandbabies1 on there - I can write a bit more than I can here x
Of course. They had only been recently vaccinated so we had to wait 3 weeks before they could go outside. In the U.K. we vaccinate again RHD1, RHD2, myxomatosis
I used a 9mm marine plywood. The way I’ve added it means there are no real areas the bunnies can chew at. Bunnies especially like an edge to or corner to nibble! Chipboard and MDF are a no no too - so options can be limited for insulation purposes. Obviously it’s a personal choice and you may prefer other options. This shed is still used by rabbits and now Guinea pigs and still looks as good as it does in the video. I’ve also converted two other sheds & double hutch in exactly the same way and no issues at all. I offer plenty of chew toys and cardboard and as we do daily clean outs I would be able to know if there are any areas being overly chewed at.
They can take a little while to settle in - make sure your table temperatures are ok, being cold can make them a bit sluggish - but they do also notice the seasons and winter is often their most quiet period (naturally they would hibernate) - keep feeding to a routine if you can & often they will start to come over to the food slate and that’s when you can introduce a high reward treat and start bonding x
It's so cute! I searched for this because my male bun got fixed a week and a half ago, but I'm afraid he was faster and got my female bun pregnant before that. She is heavier and moody but I still hope that she is not pregnant 😅
Male bunnies can be fertile for up to 8 weeks after a neuter - if it’s only been about ten days you wouldn’t really see any signs of pregnancy yet . The babies would only be the size of a grape - but treat her as if she is - pregnancy can be up-to 35 days (maximum ) generality it’s 31 days x
@@woodlandbabies the babies are the cutest thing ever! The buns are separated, but they can see and smell each other through the fence. She had 3 babies, but one was too small and didn't make it.. and maybe she knew he wasn't gonna survive cus she wasn't even feeding that baby. The other 2 are super healthy and growing up very strong ❤️
Just picked up a red footed tortoise with a bad eye infection and everyone on Reddit recommended a carrot soak until I could get him an appointment at my vet on Monday so thanks for the video! Everything I could find was for turtles
Hope it works for you. For the eye infection - clean it a couple of times a day with salt water (used cooled boiled water with salt in). This acts as a saline. Soak a cotton wool pad in the water and wipe. Only use the pad once so you don’t reinfect . It may be some substrate as got in there or it’s had a dirty water bowl in it’s previous home. Wishing you well with him - they are such amazing animals x
If she does it could be for a few reasons A natural instinct to “clean up” the nest - if some of the litter has died- to prevent potential predators finding the other babies. A fear response - mum is frightened by something Always leave mum & babies quietly for at least the first 2 weeks Don’t disturb the nest / especially if she’s not used to your scent. Make sure mum has a good set up - plenty of deep bedding and plenty of food If you are noticing a large amount dying - then it may be a genetic issue so you would need To try a different pairing 🙂
Hello. Hamsters can eat Lab Blocks - which can help avoid picky eating - but we actually do a mix of Harry hamster, Johnson’s food. We are in the U.K. and these are readily available and highly recommended.
Hello: thank you for your comment. We have a video about the food we used. They are utterly adorable as babies but watching them grow is just the best! They are such characters too. Hoping you can add one to your home. Just remember to think ahead to the space they will need in the years to come :)
Hello, I am trying to incubate tortoise egg in home made incubator. Humidity is about 75%. But I have to almost open the lid. Do you think that it is ok when the humidity is not changing and temperature is 29°c with almost opened lid. Or i should try make more holes and let it closed? I don't know what to do.
Hello. I must admit I haven’t used a homemade incubator. 75% should be ok depending on the species of tortoise you are trying to hatch. Ideally you don’t want air holes as that will make the temperature fluctuate and the eggs don’t like that, so I would just carry on - open the lid once a week (and the container with the eggs in if they are in one ) to do an air exchange. There are some really good Facebook groups that can give you a bit more info on homemade incubators - so it might be worth joining a few for some info and advice. Hoping you have some little babies soon. It’s really one of the best experiences ever :)
We don’t use harnesses for the bunnies but if you are going to get one I would recommend a jacket style. This is easier to fit and a comfortable harness as opposed to one that you have to adjust each time. Xx
0:22 ohhhhhhh she is soooo cute and how she lies there with closed eyes.... then she trust you if she accept that you next to her it means that she know you will not harm her while she is sleeping!!! so cute bunnychen
It can be hard to see sometimes. Especially if they have a dark thick coat. I can only see more clearly when they are laid down. Sometimes bunnies are very good at hiding it. Hope your new arrivals are going on ok xx
